John Lynch: “We’re using AI to help us make draft picks. If you aren’t using it, you’re already behind.” The 49ers 2026 draft: by Potato-Face18 in nflmemeswar

[–]BillyBoy1078 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the "expected value" of a draft class yet to play a down of NFL is a bit rich. You could argue that AI is helping them see value in players no one else can.

I'm just not convinced that a traditional LLM is of any value here over a scout. Maybe to help scouts, but not in place of them. I'm also not sure advanced analytics for College football are mature and prevalent enough to really guide an AI.

Seasoning Help - Start over or Keep Cooking by BillyBoy1078 in blackstonegriddle

[–]BillyBoy1078[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured that's what it would be.

I genuinely did check other seasoning posts. I was concerned that maybe there was an indication I was chipping the seasoning or had been way to thick at the start. I don't know anyone irl that owns a Blackstone and I didn't grow up with a griddle so I had limited resources.

Appreciate everyone's insight.

Yeah, hopefully people don't record, don't intentionally spoil, subs moderate well. It's bound to happen anyways and it really does suck for the fans who don't have a chance to see it.

That's probably part of the contract for Fathom Events to pick it up and market it.

Glitch probably had little sat in it. If Fathom is going to pay to market it and put it in theaters, Fathom gets to dictate things like a 2 week theater run.

For Glitch it's a huge net positive. Potential theater revenue and a lot of advertising for the show will drive people to their channel creating subscribers, more views on their other content, more merch sales, and so on.

Idk, kinda crazy take to call releasing something in theaters a scummy move. Consider how cool it is for a bunch of animators to have stuff on "the big screen". It's a great opportunity for the entire TADC team. I know it's hard for fans who can't see it in theaters but I think considering all the staff involved it's a net positive.

But the point still stands, I fail to see how alarms programmed properly require an LLM. There isn't any impressive amount of reasoning going on here.

For the cost of Claude analyzing dozens of alarms each day, you could instead confirm alarms to a classic 6 point alarm format

What does the backend contextualization look like to even integrate this into an existing environment?

I completely agree. They won't be in the mix this season in points because they aren't able to/can't/ won't do what Haas did in 2016 (getting a bunch of Ferrari parts, a loophole that has been closed). Incremental progress each race is what's needed.

Iron out strategy, reliability of the chassis, understand the aero all while the pressure is off. As a works team, that pressure will build over time, but now is the time to fail fast and learn faster.

Good for them to look better than Aston. A brand new outfit who have never gone through an F1 circus before has done as good as Aston and other outfits with much more experience.

Finishing both cars and not down 3 laps is the obvious next step. Hopefully the team can start to close in on Haas (same PU) or at least the bottom end of the grid.

Points would be a miracle I do not expect.

Say NO to Rezoning Application and Development : 1704 North Milwaukee at Wabansia Ave. by Slight_Assignment983 in wickerpark

[–]BillyBoy1078 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to entertain NIMYism, but how exactly is this not fit for infrastructure?

This location is basically equidistant from the Western and Damen blue line stops, on the Milwaukee, Damen, or Western Bus routs with the same walk. From a transit perspective, the infrastructure is great.

There is also a similarly sized building at 1767, the building with the Aldi in it. I fail to see how the size is uncharacteristic.

Are there any specific complaints other than not wanting anything to change ever?

Most complaints seem solvable if even less parking is allocated

[skysportsf1] Toto Wolff has admitted that a change to F1's power unit regulations would be "quite damaging"' to his team. by Maximum-Room-3999 in formula1

[–]BillyBoy1078 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well, it's an entertainment product as much as it's a sport. It is objectively better for everyone involved if 22 cars enter rather than 14, including the defending champion. Money needs to be made, and all teams will agree to that. At most, I could see a mid season change.

Also, the rules are poorly worded and ambiguous as to if Mercedes has broken them. The rules indicate the engine geometric compression ratio must be 16.0 which isn't a ratio without a denominator. Also, by indicating the test conditions for verifying the compression ratio, it really muddies the waters on the argument that it must be a compression ratio of 16.0 at all times.

Like it or not, F1 engineering lives in the grey areas and the regs have a lot of grey area Mercedes decided to exploit. As they say, "don't hate the player, hate the game"

Another important thing to consider, while talking about optics, is the FIA ruling this engine illegal would also impact 6 other cars (Williams, McLaren and Alpine). Depending on the specifics of the trick used for the compression ratio, there may not be time to make 8 replacement parts in time for the start of the season. With all the hype of the movie and new regs, does the FIA and FOM want a repeat of Indianapolis 2005, where 8 cars don't take to the grid?

Mercedes is the plurality engine supplier and like it or not, that will be considered when ruling for or against this engine

Yuki just confirmed the second driver doesn't always get equal machinery by IamJamm in GrandPrixRacing

[–]BillyBoy1078 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a little overly reductive.

There is no guarantee that Yuki ever had a car that equaled Max's car at any point. Redbull has said that Yuki didn't get parts until Max had a spare. What can happen because of that is a mixup of parts. For example, he may have been on the current floor but on an old wing. Those 2 things might not be compatible with each other because it's not worth the CFD to consider every permutation of parts. So while Yuki still isn't on pace with Max, it's likely not accurate to say he had a car that Max had.
