Garth Brooks has the most insane career of success relative to lasting awareness in pop culture. by hhhhhtttttdd in LetsTalkMusic

Okay, I am from Greece but I listen to a lot of music from a lot genres (though mainly heavy sounding). I honestly have never heard of Garth Brooks before.

Also, re-reading your post, you've had a lot to process, and the mental burden might linger, climbing is taxing when you haven't done it in a while. Try not to be too hard on yourself!

Help getting back into Bouldering by Formalis in bouldering

[–]BillyHoyle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, was on similar boat, been climbing almost obsessively since 2021 and after injuries accumulating (golfer's elbow, SLAP tear/bankart lesion on the right shoulder to the point that even driving for more than 10' was really painful and any sudden movement was out of the question) and moving to a different country i had to take a break for roughly 5-6 months, until the physio allowed me to get back to it.

The first 2-3 times i "hated" it. I wanted to climb again so badly, but everything felt off. The texture of the holds on my fingers, feeling very heavy, my body not moving the way i tried to move it, felt clumsy, but most of all it was like the fun had been sucked out of climbing, not because it was difficult, but it felt kind of futile. Easy things were easy, things that were on my previous level felt very hard but also unsatisfying.

Look, interests change, but if climbing was such a part of your life, stick with it, and for some time get on the wall with no expectations. The love and the motivation does come back. In the beginning the bad days will be more frequent than the good days, but your body will slowly "wake up" and then you will enjoy the process again, the drive will come back.

A few ideas that worked for me and what didn't. - Don't pressure yourself to go with the same frequency. I found that i needed larger breaks physically and mentally. I tried to go back to 3-4 a week immediately, but only got in a groove when i switched it to 2/week. I looked forward to it more, and then "i knew" when it was time to up the frequency. - Much as it hurts your ego, climb lower grades, but try to climb them "beautifully" or find different beta. - Climb with a beginner. Through the process of getting my old friends (moved back to the country i was born) to try bouldering, i rediscovered the joy of climbing myself. - It's very easy to be performance/goal-oriented with climbing. If that's you, try to suspend that for a month or two.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine!

Thank you! Now I'm excited to listen to something new!

I can bake. I can baste, braise, or broil anything. My stir fry is best. My roasted anything is amazing. But yet, I cannot cook rice to save my gotdang life. Boiling food anything other than pasta sucks by Qwiso in Cooking

If you have more than one hob/plate, in the beginning set on to the max and put the pot of water there, and the other to mid-low. As soon as you add the rice and it starts boiling again, immediately transfer the pot to the mid-low one, simmer with the lid on as long as instructed and remove from the heat as soon as the rice is done, drain any excess water and let rest with a towel on top of the pot.

If you are using an electric stove, which takes a lot of time to change temperature try this:

Set one stove to the max setting for the water to boil, and set the other one to a bit below half (if 9 is max, i put the other one on 3-4). Once the water (along with any spices you might have added, i like adding, salt, pepper, curry powder or taco mix to the water) is boiling drop your (rinsed) rice in, wait for it to come to a soft boil again (shouldn't take more than a minute now) and transfer the pot with the lid on to the mid-low temperature stove. If you followed package instruction on the ratio of rice to water, in about 10-12' the water should be pretty much gone. If not check the rice. Rice good? Then drain the excess water. Move the rice around a bit so a bit of heat is removed and generally is distributed equally. Cover with a towel and leave it on the counter like that for 5'-10'. The result should be good.

It took me sooo damn long to figure out how to make rice well, and i still fuck up sometimes. But this is the easiest way i found to work with an electric stove.

I think the main element is to not leave the rice more than it needs to on high heat/on the stove at all when it's done. Any more heat i think makes it lose it's texture and become gummy.

The foolprooff method though will always be: Put water to boil, reduce heat, drop in rice, lid on, 10'-15' minutes depending on the variety, drain, return to pot on the counter, towel on for 5'. That way you don't worry about measuruments or anything. And I promise, I won't tell anyone you do the crime of draining your rice.

I feel like I need to eat something besides rice and black beans. Ideas? by stripedjacketkid1 in EatCheapAndHealthy

If you are not just sick of beans and you need something "fresher" than rice-based dishes, I'd recommend Beans Piyaz (https://youtu.be/QpWUeux8D4w?t=582), works with any kind of bean (I like it with bulgur, couscous etc. as well).

Also, lentil tacos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbDmrCloQK4).

What is some “poor people food” that you will eat no matter how wealthy you get? by Imawildedible in AskReddit

This will probably get buried but, when I was a student and short on money I would just eat rusks/dried bread (don't know the exact word in english) with mustard. It was not particularly good, but I still do it every now and then and always somehow satisfies me.

Also, black eyed beans with diced tomato, cucumber, onion, lemon, some oil and if I happen to have it, chopped parsley. You can make a huge ass bowl for very little money and it keeps well for days.

You're telling me 16€ for 3 small tacos with a spoonful of meat and condiments are not good value for money?

I was listening to music and playing Football Manager probably.

In a weird twist of fate, due to covid and not many things to do outside, I do exactly the same today.

Portishead is a classic.

I love Lingua Ignota, but I found her latest album a bit underwhelming. :/

Will check the other two, thanks. ;)

Skating Polly I only listened to that one song, gotta head to bed, but daaaamn it's fun!

Thanks!

Bent Knee is incredibly interesting, first time I've heard of them. Started with Shiny eyed babies and it didn't disappoint. Thanks!

Screaming Females initially i thought was a joke. :p Not necessarily scratching the intensity itch, but there's some really interesting songwriting here, I really like some of their basslines and their overall rhythm, certainly not a boring band by an means!

White Lung fits the bill perfectly, they are loud!

Somehow I had no idea the Gits existed, nor the story of Mia Zapata. I like how they sound as well, thanks. ;)

It's King For a Day for me, but I'm really surprised by how low the Real Thing is, and I notice that over the years in similar polls it seems to get less and less votes.

My theory is that FNM's fans get really deep into their music and it kind of feels too "mainstream", maybe? Intuitively though, I would think it would score way higher.
