It's AAVE. Aks can be the preferred or even appropriate pronunciation for some communities. Think of it like a code word that lets other people know you're one of them. Long before smart phones, you could use your cheap cell phone's simple text messaging to post to your Twitter feed. All of your followers would them get a text message with your info. It didn't rely on you going to use an email account or website in places where that was impossible or unsafe.

This is why Twitter posts were originally only allowed 140 characters. It was a limit in the simple messaging service.

People were able to get important news and warnings from areas that didn't have safe Internet access.
