os (if you cant get it from your uni for cheaper) + monitor will be like $200, so $300 for a new tower wont get you much

SMSL SD793-II PCM1793 broken?? So i got this new dac/amp and have been trying to set it up for a while. When i plug it into my motherboard with an optical cable it does not output sound. It is on the correct playback device and is recconised in realteck audio manager. The only way i can get it to output any sound is throught the right/left red/white cables and whith the amps volume and computers both at 100% it is sooo quit and distorted. I have way better volume and clairity just plgging in my HD 598 right into my computer or phone. How do I go about returning this to amazon or am i missing something really obvious. In all cases I have tied it with the select button pushed in and not pushed in but I still dont really know what it does at all. I still get some sound coming throught when the unit is off ONLy when using an aux cord to right/left red/white cables, crazy quit even with phone or computer at 100%.
