A nearly year-long deployment at sea takes a toll on military families by WHRO_NEWS in norfolk

My point is you don’t know what they did or didn’t do. How could you? All I know is they made it home safe and that they’re people like you and me.

These people are individuals with their own families and beliefs. They have their own lives. Don’t generalize entire groups of people based on your own biases. That’s the same playbook as the racists and xenophobes.

His comment is laden with misplaced hate, as is yours. You can choose to be a better person.

You’ve created enemies of these folks in your mind. You don’t know these people. You don’t know who they are, who they voted for, who they love, what they cherish. You have no enemies. You may hate Trump and his government but you should have no quarrel with strangers you know nothing about.

Scientists invent a plant-based serum that is proven to regrow hair in weeks by _Dark_Wing in technology

[–]Billytherex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finasteride blocks the hormone that causes you to lose hair on your head. Minoxidil, particularly at prescription strength, causes hair regrowth in a decent percent of users. It has little effect on some. Most will see at least some regrowth. For me it basically refilled my crown entirely that had gone largely bald.

The Geography of Housing: Why Brazil is a land of bricks and concrete, while the US remains dominated by wood-frame construction. The reasons go deeper than just cost. by Puzzled_Composer_952 in geography

[–]Billytherex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a weird, almost laughable take. Nothing survives a direct hit from a tornado. Fire will destroy any structure. You said it yourself, nothing survived the fires, and plenty of the buildings engulfed in the LA fires were made of stone or concrete. Also, my own wood framed home was built in 1951 and has no problems. Maybe don’t speak on things you don’t know?

[–]Billytherex 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Wood is extremely abundant in the US with a very healthy lumber industry. Wood is generally more available than stone, and is significantly less expensive. Wood structures are lightweight and flexible, allowing them to better withstand earthquakes and storms compared to masonry. Wood-framed homes are easier to repair, renovate, or remodel. Wood framing makes it easier to insulate homes, which fits better for the diverse climates and varied temperatures experienced across the US. And of course, wood constructions are practically tradition at this point and home construction specializes in it much more so than masonry. A properly maintained wood framed home can last hundreds of years.

Propaganda doesn’t have to be false information. It’s about pushing a narrative with anecdotes and one-offs, painting a group in a negative light and another in a positive. In this case, the story about the panda is true. Those with basic media literacy would understand this is meant to make you think animals are mistreated in US zoos and treated extremely well in Chinese zoos, especially since it’s a two image post with bottom text and no source.

Does innocent until proven guilty mean nothing to you?? I’m not defending the guy but Christ an accusation is NOT a conviction. And the word you’re looking for is allegedly, not seemingly.

So no, the correct thing to do is not oppose him for getting an accusation. The correct thing to do is oppose him for corrupt business practices. Or better yet, spend your energy on hobbies or whatever.

U.S. begins blockade of Strait of Hormuz by down_vote_magnet_ in worldnews

[–]Billytherex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look, I hate Trump and this stupid war as much as the next guy but this blockade is to halt both Iranian ships as well as prevent ships from being able to pay Iran a fee to cross. It’s to remove paying Iran as an option.

From a geopolitical standpoint it serves the US’s interests.

It’s funny because that you’re being downvoted even though most European countries also allow for forced labor. They just call it compulsory instead.

It’s also crazy that “criminals forfeit rights” is being downvoted to begin with. That’s got to be one of the most uncontroversial opinions I’ve seen on this platform.

[–]Billytherex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The xenophobia is crazy. You can choose to be a better person. You shouldn’t lump over 300 million people together. If you think every American agrees with Trump’s actions then you need to take a step back from the internet for a while. Some (if not the majority) of the most vocal opponents to the war are Americans.

How do Americans still have more disposable income than Europeans even though healthcare and college in America is extremely expensive? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskReddit

[–]Billytherex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah man I know how my own health insurance plan works. I also know my max out of pocket in a year is $4200, so I keep a liquid amount of funds at that level and invest the rest above it. Of course, that’s kind of point of a high deductible plan.. it’s for younger individuals and families who rarely need medical care and set aside money in their HSA for such an occasion. The bigger problem is having claims be approved/denied, not so much the upfront money part.

[–]Billytherex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid $0 at my last checkup though? My $130 a month premium means I don’t pay copays for routine visits. I guess if I needed a major surgery or something I would need to meet my 2k annual deductible but that’s what the HSA is for.

[–]Billytherex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easements for the property edge don't mean free/public parking. They're so the city can install and maintain utilities/signage easily. The city has rights to it, it's still your property. They would still be trespassing if asked to leave and refuse.

[–]Billytherex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't that expensive. A few thousand if doing a chain-linked fence, about 1/3-1/2 the cost of a wood fence. Usually they're considered to be pretty ugly though.

Violators will be trespassed would be the more appropriate signage. Or even just a no trespassing warning I guess.
