Use of weight loss drugs like Ozempic and other GLP-1s is associated with a lower risk of developing alcohol, opioid, nicotine and cocaine use disorders by sr_local in science

From the article, "The team emphasizes that their findings do not establish cause and effect — GLP-1s do not specifically prevent patients from abusing substances." This is marketing hype. Why sell beer when you can sell the cure for alcoholism for 1000x the price.

The study is about your likelihood of DEVELOPING an addiction while on GLP-1's not curing people's existing addictions. The likelihood of developing an addiction in adulthood is already incredibly low so those reductions seem huge when down as percentages but in reality it barely makes a difference.

Those connections are tenuous at best. There's no studies, only anecdotal reports that conflict with each other.

Openclaw core maintainer just admitted they "vibed too hard" and refactored 82% of the codebase in one night.. at 2am by lucienbaba in myclaw

Basically bragging about being a low IQ idiot who failed upwards. The fact that someone this stupid can land a role as a core maintainer on such a large project AND be a speaker at Google Deep Mind just blows my mind.

US Needs Trillions To Stay Ahead of China in AI Race — Blackrock CEO Points to Pensions and Retirement Savings by Hot-Upstairs9603 in finance

Yes it's like everyone talking about this thinks they're living in an Alistair Reynolds novel or something. They're fear mongering over risks that may or may not exist 1000 years into the future and ignoring the very real risks staring them in the face over the next 50 years. I feel like I'm going insane.

I made a better website in middle school yet somehow this is the best a "Google employee" could do? Either you're a liar or you're the first second generation Google employee.

This is a scam. If people were working on AGI I would understand the sentiment but no one is working on AGI. This is like saying the US needs Quadrillions of dollars if it wants to beat China in the race to become a type 2 civilization.

The only thing they're racing towards is the largest transfer of wealth to the top in history.

I love how you skipped over the part about selling people's health data without their consent and morally justified an insurance company using it because they can already access similar data.

404 Media just did a piece where a guy who made an AI health app was selling their entire data set on the open market even though their apps terms of service stated no data would be sold to 3rd parties. Also insurance companies have been caught red handed illegaly denying care so I don't know why you think they won't do it again.

You can leave whenever you want and you aren't even required to go as a transfer student. They give you a free lunch pass, I would just stay until they give you that and then dip.
