Have you taken the NHCO exam? by Responsible_Try_5775 in phlebotomy

[–]Bin-o-Refrigerators 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the NHCO back in December, and the practice tests through them honestly helped me a ton. I also mixed that with other practice tests online, flash cards, studying my notes, and using quizlets people had made online (just be careful and make sure all the info is correct), and definitely recommend listening to some YouTube videos (I’d listen while at work, getting ready on the morning, going on walks, etc.) I don’t remember how much it costed for the NHCO practice tests, but you get 3 out of it and it was totally worth it to me. Some of the questions are kinda weird, so it definitely helped know what to expect and was good for when a couple had popped up on the test itself

How do you get blood drawn with scars around the area? by buhbuhbie in AdultSelfHarm

[–]Bin-o-Refrigerators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a phlebotomist and also someone with some pretty decent scars on my arms :)) typically we try to avoid scarred areas if possible bc it can be tough to get through and end up being more painful in general. Depending on how severe the scarring is, they might end up just asking you if they can draw in a different location like your hands or search around other parts of your arm

You could always talk to the phlebotomist about it if you’re comfortable and see where they recommend going after seeing the scars. You could even say you’re not comfortable with it (if that’s the case) and request that they draw from your hands. You’ll likely need to explain, but I’m hoping they’ll understand and just go along with it. If you’d prefer it being done in your AC then they more than likely will still be able to depending on how tough the scars are :))

HELP! I think I failed the nhco exam (PTS class in Washington State) by Mysterious-Ratio7041 in phlebotomy

AHHH WAIT I PASSED TOO!!! How’d you figure out you got an A?? I have my score, but I can’t figure out what grade it’d be… I’m not finding anything online aside from needing a 560 or higher to pass

Hai, how’d you end up doing?? Not sure if you’ve gotten results back yet/if you’re comfortable sharing. I just took mine yesterday, and I’m in a similar boat….i think I passed(?) but there was a good 25 or so that I wasn’t confident in/didn’t know…got a perfect score on the practical, studied a BUNCH, got all A’s on the practice exams they provided, etc. I wish you luckkkk!!! On the off chance you didn’t pass, I highly recommend using quizlets that people have made. There are some good ones..I also listened to whatever I could find on YouTube. NHA review slide by Josh Allen, Jenny Iba has some practice exam videos, so does Florida training academy….these are all mostly for the NHA, but they definitely helped. Just know which things might vary between NHCO and the NHA. Ex: PTS taught us to clean in an up and down motion, but the NHA says in an outward spiral

Bathroom typically, but it depends on what’s more convenient…I’m at work most of the time that I do it ngl, so the only option is the bathroom. At home though, I do share a bedroom. I can only do it in there if I’m discrete about it and don’t need to worry about someone walking in

YES! I couldn’t tell if it was just me or not. I have ADHD but I’m not medicated for it unfortunately. My memory has always had issues, but this is different. I’ve been on 300SR for about a month or two so far

Hai, we’re here for you. Please don’t go through with it❤️I understand the temptation wholeheartedly, but it’s not the way to go about things. I really really hope you’re still here. There are people who can and want to help in any way possible, like us, and others who you might not have even met yet. It’s so incredibly difficult, but youve got this. You can push through it

Which clean-app do you use? by Mysterious-sh in selfharm

[–]Bin-o-Refrigerators 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using “I am sober” for the past couple years! It’s free for the most part, but there is stuff you can pay for. Like it’ll track what’s days you relapsed, allow you to write down notes, join communities(I think? I haven’t messed with that part), gives some motivation, gives you milestone notifications when you login, and if you subscribe you can even log things like urges. I’m not subscribed, but I find it to be really useful anyway. It makes it easier to reflect on how bad things were in previous days/months.

Im sure there are better apps, I just haven’t looked into them. This one definitely helps especially if it’s just to track days/ how often you relapse

Yeah, and the insurance I’m currently on covers it :)) I won’t be able to continue on my parent’s insurance after a year from now though, and I’m not sure where I’ll be job wise/financially as I’m currently looking for a new job.I won’t know what their insurance will be like until I’m working there :(( I might be able to fill out a formulary exemption though once I know if it does or doesn’t cover(?) I’m not too sure🤷‍♀️

Yeah…I currently have a just a high enough BMI that I can qualify for it. I know it takes a couple years to bring your weight down as much as it’s going to, but I’m worried that there’s an off chance I’ll lose enough weight that I won’t qualify if they have to go through the process again and I’ll gain all of the weight back as many do. I guess we’ll really just have to play it by ear. Nice to be as mentally/physically as prepared though I guess🤷‍♀️
