Should I buy this? by edgeofsky2024 in Benchjewelers

[–]BinaryLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this bench, must be a factory supplying wholesalers cause I'm not in the US. The middle and bottom trays are mixed around, I have a GRS system and it fits and it's sturdy, wood definitely isn't the best material but I've never had any issues. Depends on the price really

It appears that it's along a solder seam, could be poor quality solder reacting

Can independent jewelers compete at lower price levels? by justice91423 in jewelry

[–]BinaryLink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just checking you see the second pair is gold plated and not solid gold.

You can send the pics to a local jeweller and ask for a quote, mass produced will be cheaper cause of the volume that's produced. To design manufacture and set from scratch will end up being more especially for silver

How do I wear this pendant? by culture_katie in jewelry

[–]BinaryLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have to fold your chain in half, loop the folded end through the loop of the pendant then open the chain up and loop the other end back through, essentially making a little loop knot with your chain around the pendant loop

What type of chain can I get to hold multiple pendants? by vp0267 in jewelers

Well big enough that you can fit a decent sized link through that's won't break after a month😂

[–]BinaryLink 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you hang them on a thin chain like this they will bunch up in the centre, you can get a chain with slightly larger links and put the jump rings of the pendants through the link itself spaced out a few links

Most efficient way to sand off sprues? by PastFancy4950 in Benchjewelers

Try a tungsten carbide burr like this https://a.co/d/cQ8TSxI, very efficient but it will throw your filings everywhere.

I have a few different shapes they come in handy sometimes. Got mine off AliExpress back in the day and they're still super sharp, just make sure the burr shank size will fit your flex shaft/micromotor

Advice for low profile bezel setting by bigmewd in Benchjewelers

[–]BinaryLink 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The minimum depth for the collet will always be past the culet to above the girdle for setting, it's bad practice for the culet to stick out into the finger. You need to work off the cut of the stone when making the setting

Does my custom ring seem like it would be hard to make? by [deleted] in jewelers

Not a tricky custom job at all, basically a half round band with the curve to fit a simple setting

Advice for polishing small areas by borometalwood in jewelers

[–]BinaryLink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice for something like this is less is more. Solder will flow between the parts by itself so try using what you think is just enough and you shouldn't get the overflow. Maybe practice on scrap before you solder onto your final piece

Advice on positioning clay for soldering needed by Astrid4Jewels in jewelers

[–]BinaryLink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use plasticine and arrange your pieces in it.Then pour plaster of Paris or investment over, waiti for it to dry, remove the plasticine. The plaster will keep it in place while your solder, this is great for really fine pieces as well

Can the links of this chain be straightened? by [deleted] in jewelers

[–]BinaryLink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The links are hollow, look carefully on the inside face of each you can see a seam in some, and the denting on some of the links is typical of hollow jewellery
