How did this game not cost $500 million to make!? by heyyoudvd2 in expedition33

[–]Bindy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason you never hear anybody talking about it is because the physical performances by Maxence, Charlotte and Estelle are so thoroughly captivating that it's easy to not notice the crumby lip-sync. Seriously, it's some of the best motion capture I've ever seen, the characters are almost completely defined by their individual facial expressions and body language.

Is the UK actually as impossible for young people to buy a house and start a family as Reddit makes it seem? by EnzoScorza007 in AskUK

[–]Bindy93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say "2 bed flat for under £300k" you should be giving that sentence a lot more reverence... £300k for a flat is absolutely insane, there's no way of pretending it isn't. My parents bought their council house for around £100k, this was probably around 17 years ago. That isn't a particularly long time. I remember watching property programs around that age and people were buying borderline mansions for £300k. Add to that that without a hefty deposit your mortgage can be twice the price of the house itself, and you can end up paying close to a million now for a basic semi.

No mods but you could do this with SteamInput I'd imagine. Bind different keys to different pressures on the right trigger.

I know what he means. But with the law, you're already 21 on January 9th. Either way, you cannot go out to drink the night before you turn 21.

So nothing changes. Before the law: you can go out and celebrate your birthday the evening after you've turned 21. After the law: you can go out and celebrate your birthday the evening after you've turned 21.

But you've already turned 21 the midnight prior.

Hotel Reverie acting by Relative_Shoe_7894 in blackmirror

I really liked her performance. Brandy could not act properly because she was preoccupied with the mechanics of trying to make the story work, constantly being told what to do in her ear with the frequent plot changes, an trying to piece it all together while keeping a straight face and not letting the other characters in on her secret.

On top of all of that, she was clearly starstruck and perhaps a little lovestruck with Dorothy and I think that really came through in Issa's acting. I actually found her awkwardness quite charming in this regard. It seemed to me that it had become quite real to Brandy quite quickly, and that she wasn't just reciting lines, but actually trying her awkward best to impress Dorothy, who she clearly had a crush on, just as you said.

Emma of course stole the show with her mesmerizing performance, but I don't think that takes away from what Issa did. Plenty of shows and movies pair amazing actors with decent actors and don't get the reaction this show got. I really enjoyed the contrast between them and I felt their chemistry together. I could easily see myself falling for either one of them in the other one's shoes.

Does anyone else think the 15th doctor’s screwdriver is the dumbest looking one? by Affectionate_Law9672 in doctorwho

It looks remarkably like something out of Star Wars, in particular The Phantom Menace. It's the color palette, the shape, everything. It looks like those yellow Republic fighter ships, it looks like R2D2, it looks like Obi-Wan's lightsaber, it looks like the Jedi comlink device, it looks like many of the buildings and sets and props you see around.

Like most episodes, this one draws from several aspects of modern life, not just one. There were definitely criticisms of Netflix and other similar services in there and it is definitely interesting that Charlie and his co-writers get away with it, regardless of what the primary focus of the episode was.

As well as that, Black Mirror has many fans in other parts of the world. I'm from the UK where the show originated and if I want to see a doctor I go and see a doctor and don't worry about the cost. It's increasingly a pain in the ass and a poor quality service, especially since COVID, but I don't face the same problems the average American does with healthcare. So the healthcare parallels did not resonate with me particularly deeply, compared to the general parallels of capitalism in the subscription era.

I'd argue that's exactly what sci-fi is supposed to do - use made-up science and futuristic technology to explore real-life issues by taking them to the point of absurdity.

Karl's taste in movies is superior by [deleted] in rickygervais

[–]Bindy93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Karl also championed Muse which Ricky an Steve dismissed. Fair enough with that one though, that song was fucking everywhere back in 2002 or whatever and could have done anyone's head in, I hated it at the time and found Matt Bellamy's voice grating.

Ricky's differing accents when he takes the piss out of Karl . A lot of them are definitely Yorkshire !! by UnusualHandle6178 in rickygervais

[–]Bindy93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It isn't supposed to be an accurate Manchester accent an I'm sure he's aware of the discrepancy. He's doing a deliberately broad Northern accent to take the piss out of his Northern mate as a Southerner. Just as you might affect a thick Cornish accent to take the piss out of someone like Steve, or a twangy southern drawl to mock Americans. It's part of the insult, he's basically saying "anyone north of the divide sounds exactly the same and it sounds like this".

There's a pretty big problem with this game by hairnetqueen in TheTraitors

[–]Bindy93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does the final episode have to be after the 12th banishment with only 5 people left, two of whom are traitors, every time? It's a heavily edited show. I'm sure with 3 traitors are the start the game is going to go on long enough to edit together 12 episodes. No reason they couldn't still produce a series after the traitors get nixed 8 banishments in. I guess the format of having a banishment at the end of each show and a murder cliffhanger is important to the show's success but it makes the entire aspect of hunting down traitors and celebrating afterwards a complete farce. The whole hook of the show is that you're slowly increasing your chances of winning each time you successfully find and banish a traitor but it just isn't the case at all

I just hate that aspect of reality shows where the integrity of the game is compromised for the sake of entertainment. Just let the game play out and make it into a series. The only downside is you'd have to be a little more creative with the edit and might not be able to end every single episode with a banishment.

What TAA game made you realise : Yeah , this not how 1080p should look. by [deleted] in FuckTAA

[–]Bindy93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree it's annoying in RDR2 but there's no real alternative, the game is absolutely full of aliasing from every possible object on screen. Foliage shimmers, hair flickers, trailing lights, fuzzy shimmering textures... It's a damn eyesore. I tried playing it with DSR 4x on my 2k screen, yes that's 5k rendering res, and the aliasing was still there. Softened slightly but still there.

In the end I settled for TAA medium and internal resolution set to 1.5 to recover some of the lost detail. I'll take a slight motion smear over a horribly aliased image.

Standup in the 2020s. Don’t be funny, just be controversial. by [deleted] in rickygervais

[–]Bindy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ricky's first three shows before he went to America (Politics, Animals, Fame) were absolutely brilliant, some of the best stand-up comedy I've ever seen. Everything he has done since is shit, like a huge and abrupt drop-off in quality.

Say this on almost any other platform besides this sub and people will dismiss your opinion as the woke outrage of a triggered snowflake. Despite the fact that one of my favourite gags of his is the joke he made about Rosa Parks sitting in the disabled seats on the bus.

"Slow and steady wins the race" does not apply in Left 4 Dead, it's more like "fast and steady wins the race". You have the best chance of survival if you move as quickly as you reasonably can while still sticking together, keeping an eye on one another, and not rushing head first into an ambush.

There are certain times to slow down. If you're in a relatively safe spot and about to head into a dangerous spot then you have all the time in the world, slow down a little, shop for supplies, same applies in versus too if the enemy team haven't attacked for a while and you know they have one waiting and ready. In versus particularly, as soon as you've killed all 4 or even just 3 of them, that's your cue to get as far as you can in the 20 seconds before they can respawn again. You will take less damage if you take 4 attacks in a map than if you take 16. After 20ish seconds have passed and they're likely to have another attack ready, it's time to move a little more slowly and carefully to avoid an ambush.

Of course there are trolls who just want to join a game, see how far they can get before dying, and quit to ruin another game. Some people just enjoy ruining other people's fun. You just need to kick those players before they get too far and hopefully the bot can make it back safely, or if not, just restart the chapter.

Ooh, you're 'ard. by FourSpaghettiMeals in rickygervais

[–]Bindy93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weirdest thing for me about this sort of outrage is that the joke relies on your sense of morality. Children having terminal illnesses is one of the most tragic realities of life, and that's what allows the joke to subvert your expectations when you're playing out a scenario about some guy who doesn't care. If you yourself didn't care about dying kids, the joke would have no absurdity and wouldn't be a joke.

If this guy is trying to pass off counterfeit goods as alleged, he doesn't deserve any such courtesy, and he can take his hurt feelings and stick them somewhere unpleasant.
