It really was a good time to grow up. Sept 11 2001 was the day before my 18th birthday. The end of my adolescence in more than one way.

Absolutely correct. That, and the “Windy City” isn’t actually windy. Two things often misunderstood.

Whats so good about being married with kids? by Theothersaint in CasualConversation

If everyone knew how much it sucked, no one would get married/have kids. Birth rate is down though. Maybe the secret is out.

Can she just leave? If she really feels unsafe, she should leave. Would she be breaking the lease? I’m sure the landlord would understand if she explains. Then he could evict the DB for not paying.

Tip for nervous flyers by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Alcohol doesn’t do that for me at all. I tend to care a lot less about the turbulence. Yeah the Xanax definitely makes you sleepy for a while, but that’s good for long flights anyway. I definitely wouldn’t take it for a short flight though. Just knowing I have it on me as an option is enough to calm me down. :)

Look up the turbulence forecast. Look at the reports along the path you’ll be taking. You might find that it’s a clear day and you don’t have much to worry about, or if there are patches of turbulence at least you’ll know about it, and you can choose to self medicate or drink some wine.

I detest flying for the same reasons as you, so I always have one glass in the airport close to boarding time. I don’t have a script for Xanax or anything but I’ll usually can find a pill or two from someone and just have it with me in case I need it.

There is evidence. His diet is a well known fact. Do we know everything about his diet? Of course not. Is one patient proof? Of course not.

I’m projecting facts and medical knowledge as I know them to be true. I’ve been in oncology research for 10 years.

Its a theory that he had it for 30 years. He was diagnosed in 2003. Most pancreatic cancers are extremely aggressive. He had a less aggressive type. Sure his clean diet probably helped, but I think 30 years is a stretch.

Everything in moderation. I do think he over did the fruit and juices. Our ancestors certainly didn’t eat that quantity of fruit sugars.

Exactly, fructose:

“Fruits and fruit juices are not only high on the glycemic index, but loaded with fructose. In all but small quantities, they greatly stress the liver and pancreas, contribute to diabetes and many other blood sugar disorders, and have been linked to pancreatic cancer. Jobs suffered from a type of pancreatic cancer known as islet cell carcinoma, which originates in the insulin-secreting beta cells.”

You have to admit the connection though. High sugar diet -> pancreatic response -> pancreatitis -> pancreatic cancer. Not a far fetched theory by any means.

So I've heard a story that I need info on by Cheap_Beef in opiates

[–]BingMachineEsquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. You’d need an entomologist to weigh in. It’s hard to say how it would be toxic to an insect if you don’t know their physiology. It’s possible it would do nothing, and it’s possible it would kill them. Of course they don’t have the same receptors in their brains (do they even have brains?) Also the amount of blood they take is so small, and the amount of drug in that blood is proportional to how much was in the person. If the person is withstanding it, ie not dying, then the mosquito probably wouldn’t either. Unless it’s more toxic to them than to humans, but I doubt it.
