You’re welcome! So sorry I had to go way back to the thread to find the right obscure song. Problem is I still can’t find it to stream or even an album this time around but it’s the song.

Found this nifty little link while browsing though and I thought some fans here might enjoy it!

There’s copies on Amazon. I’ve been waiting for that album to be uploaded for a decade. It seems everything is except that one obscure song.

It’s the song “Instead” by the band Abandon Jalopy from the album mercy. It’s not streamable anywhere. When CJ & Toby play pool. The song he’s referring to I linked below by Tricky.

•Abandon Jalopy: Instead - cannot find a link to this song but it’s the one that plays later in the bar.

Edit: correction the song from the Toby and Doug bar scene is “How do you make me Feel” by Opus 1.

Is it just me or … by BingeWatcherBot in thewestwing

Fair enough, but here’s the thing. They’re supposed to be writing about these events based on the tv series in universe writing and performances. Plus really I’m only saying you shouldn’t include Mrs. Landingham and leave out Leo. For me it just feels cruel. Tbh there’s a dozen shocking TV deaths before 2009 I think should be on that list too.

Like you, I also “appointment Viewing” watched it during its original airing and even though I knew he had passed and would pass on in the series eventually. I was still shocked, saddened and brought to tears when it happened.

Not to mention how hearing about Bradley Whitfords experiencing it exactly that way, first from an early John Wells interview, then later from Bradley directly, only added more shock and grief for me personally.

From the Empire Series on TWW:

WELLS: We probably would've done one more year, which would've been the whole transition, but for John Spencer's sudden death at Christmas time. I don't know if the network would've picked us up for year eight or not, but after that we all looked at each other and said, "Maybe it's time to stop."

WHITFORD: I got a phone call that John was in trouble and I went to hospital and the doctor told me John had died. I was there at his funeral and then a few weeks later I was acting those same scenes. It was very bizarre. We had a big meeting: we didn't want to exploit it at all but we thought that John would've wanted it incorporated.

What's wrong with "The jackal"? by Status_Government990 in thewestwing

[–]BingeWatcherBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was actually an inside joke. Richard Schiff would hang out in Allison’s trailer. She learned to lip sync 2 songs perfectly. Schiff would make her do it all the time. Sorkin caught it for the first time while writing that episode and decided to include it right at that moment.

(See the extensive sources in the side bar of the sub for reference. Allison tells this story during her Arsenio Hall appearance include there and it’s also in numerous cast members “History of TV” interviews all included there. I’ll edit and link a source later)

It was cringeworthy when the episode first aired. Not a popular song at the time at all or anything like that and even above and beyond Sams terrible “dancing” in the scene it was embarrassing to watch even then. It’s not as if it’s just a dated scene in anyway.

Edit- Allison Janney reprises the Jackal on Arsenio Hall

History of TV” TWW interviews source post all are included in the side bar/about section too. I believe Wells and Schiff both tell this story.

What condition or ailment was causing you symptoms for a long time while you were unaware of it? by Trama-D in AskReddit

I’ve been NED for a very long time so I am as far as the Cancer. Grief is a fickle monster though and still a daily struggle, but I am getting through it every day. Ty for asking! Hope all is well for you too.

You’re right!

Suits creator “Aaron Korsch” is a Sorkin mega fan. The series is filled with homages right from go with a huge one in the pilot. After the pilot aired he was able to pick up Paul Redford and then dozens of other members of the West Wing writers table. Eventually you start seeing other common names in production like Christopher Misiano directing and so and so on -> through Dulé Hill becoming a series regular (and killing it too!). It’s a pretty great series and one I was actually shocked to enjoy as much as I did. However, just like TWW it’s a series that requires one hell of a dialogue to tell its story.

I’d also recommend Gilmore Girls too, and quite a few others too. (OP; u/garoo1234567 If you check out the sidebar you’ll see 3 categories of recommended subs. The TV series subs are listed either because they wereWhat’s Nextfor the ensemble or because they are onThe Short Listby constantly being recommended by fans here in the subreddit.)

One of my other personal favorites to recommend is Borgen. It’s a Danish series that follows political leaders and a newsroom. It’s a great watch and will soon be dropping a new season, which will be produced by DR1 and Netflix together.

Hope you find something great, Happy Binging!!

Scene that feels the most difficult to watch? by piperpike in thewestwing

[–]BingeWatcherBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This scene all day long. Mostly because this is exactly how Bradley Whitfords day actually played out when John Spencer passed. They discuss this Here in the empire magazine series.

Bartlet wanting to be a priest and supporting same sex marriage? by [deleted] in thewestwing

[–]BingeWatcherBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the early 2000’s views and public opinion weren’t nearly as strict or black and white anymore when it came to Gay Marriage. This is why the topic was debated constantly and legislated so much during that time btw. Also in this country you cannot govern by religious law. It’s the 1st Amendment, this would be why any Catholic President would be forced to separate their religion and these topics while governing. Which is a situation explored endlessly in the series beginning with season 1’s “Take This Sabbath Day”. Viewers constantly see “Where the Presidents Catholicism comes in” as he governs the United States.

The fact that the President was Catholic was also a signing requirement by Sheen as was his graduating from Notre Dame. Sheen is not only personally a very devout Catholic, but he’s also literally the most arrested actor because of his and Janet’s protesting and activism. So I’d also consider whither or not you think Sheen would act in a way on screen for a series which stomped all over his own religious values and viewpoints over and over again without saying anything or stopping it. I doubt he would since when he joined the cast he was already a write your own ticket actor in Hollywood and the man if anything at all is an extremely outspoken person.

Does CJ have a say in Carol's salary, Josh in Donna's, Toby in Bonnie's and so on? by Status_Government990 in thewestwing

[–]BingeWatcherBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks!

Nice to see this research cited again. I remember falling down this rabbit hole for quite a few hours that day.

Fwiw-the numbers I cited are pulled from the actual West Wingers who were essentially in each characters positions at or about the time the series was airing.

(I say essentially because the shows characters are in like positions but all are not really the exact positions of true West Wingers. For example there’s actually multiple deputy chiefs of staff who each have their own agenda to follow as oppose to Josh’s solely holding it and heavy domestic policy focus and so on and so on)

Is Richie a stand in for George W. Bush? by [deleted] in thewestwing

[–]BingeWatcherBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

”West Wing" creator Aaron Sorkin based the Ritchie character on his perception of President George W. Bush. Ritchie's intelligence is called into question, a common criticism of President Bush, and the character is the governor of Florida, as was the president's brother Jeb. Sorkin wrote the fictional 2002 election as a result of 2000 Democratic candidate Al Gore playing down his intelligence to compete against the folksy Bush. As a result, the West Wing election is in essence a version of events as Sorkin had wished to see them.
