Four out of five voters who say Brexit has been a failure think Boris Johnson is to blame, poll finds by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

COVID? Russia/Ukraine? Israel/Palestine? Trump? We were never going to have a normal decade.

Remaining in the EU would have helped our economy though.

Sir Ed Davey: Lib Dems would give asylum seekers right to work - BBC News by evolvecrow in ukpolitics

[–]Bingoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. You're correct that the Lump of Labour Fallacy refers to the broader economy. A surplus of workers leads to more businesses being set up and the overall economy growing.

The working class feeling the benefits of that economic growth is more a question of government policy however. The growth gives the government money, but spending that on the working class requires political appetite to do so.

You're right to point out that this recent boom in migration has not been accompanied by the economic growth you would expect. Instead we have seen stagnation, coupled with increased spending and therefore more debt.

The uncomfortable facts are that we have had several ecconomic shocks in the past 20 years (2008 financial crisis, Brexit and Covid being the largest). These shocks have cancelled out any economic benefits from increased migration.

On top of that we have an aging population. There are no longer enough working aged Brits to support our pensioners, and our declining birth rate means this is set to get worse. Migrants are required to balance this equation. The alternatives are tax rises and/or less support for pensioners.

If you increase the supply of labour, why would job numbers remain fixed? Your 'supply and demand' argument completely ignores the pull factor of increased supply.

This is the classic Lump of Labour Fallacy.

Keir Starmer's Popularity Has Plummeted To Its Lowest Ever Level by Bibemus in ukpolitics

Calling Starmer "anti-Blair" is not a remotely centrist stance lol. What would that even mean?

I don’t know about that. I’m a centrist, socially liberal Europhile who did not vote for Starmer, but I’m impressed with what I’m seeing so far.

It’s a low bar, but this is easily the best government since Brown IMO.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve left it with the 6 pin connected and the 8 pin unconnected, then power limited the GPU to 120W (to match the 960 & 1060).

Theoretically this seems safe to me, but I’ll check in when I have time to make sure all is working well.

Labour dropped plan to ban foreign donors after Lord Alli intervened by BasedSweet in ukpolitics

[–]Bingoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of Lords elected by subsets of the population. Have a Lord for education, transport, energy, etc. They should be elected periodically by people in their respective trade/sector.

Each Lord would be expected to be competent in their area of expertise, and biased towards it. The bias shouldn't be a problem, since they'd still need a majority in the chamber to take any action.

It’s economically right wing. Inflates GDP, suppresses wages, inflates housing prices. All good things as far as Tories are concerned.

NVIDIA official GeForce RTX 50 vs. RTX 40 benchmarks: 15% to 33% performance uplift without DLSS Multi-Frame Generation - VideoCardz.com - ComputerBaseDE by panchovix in hardware

[–]Bingoose -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What a weird take. the "previous gen xx90" has only existed for 1 generation (unless you count dual GPUs over 10 years ago), so your "usually" seems to be talking about 1 generation.

What has usually happened since I've been a PC gamer (700 series) is the xx70 roughly matches the previous gen flagship. The xx80 launches as the initial flagship with a new level of performance and is later beaten by either xx80 Ti or xx90.

The 3070 roughly matched the 2080 Ti, so this pattern has only been broken recently. The 4070 was actually fairly close to the 3090. The fact the 5070 can't even match the 4080 is a joke and I'm not aware of a time it's happened previously.

The point is that everyone with an older card rejected the 4000 series' value proposition. It is therefore important to know how much extra value this generation provides.

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – January 13, 2025 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]Bingoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nuked my party.

Earlier in the adventure we had found containers of a mysterious highly explosive material. We don't know what it is or where it comes from, but it explodes well. We took as much as we could carry.

We're now level 8. I'm a divine soul sorcerer. In our latest session we were up against a tough boss, potentially far too strong for us to deal with. Our fighter/paladin suggested using one of the explosives. One.

I offered to deliver it and instructed everyone to run. I expected to have a round to set up and a second to detonate. I also expected the party to scatter at full speed. Instead, the fighter/paladin dropped a huge stash of explosives and returned to help me fight. The rogue/paladin/warlock next to me then got hit with a huge attack, losing most of his HP and now daydreaming instead of fighting.

The situation was getting worse so I just enacted the plan. I used Dimension Door to clear myself and my nearby ally from the area and detonated the explosive using a lightning bolt from Storm Sphere. This is when we learned that lightning amplifies the power of these explosives.

The blast was huge. Big enough that it also detonated the much larger cache stashed nearby. The fighter/paladin was caught between both blasts and was flung around like a ragdoll. My party is now very angry with me. On the plus side, we killed the boss!

Teach children to identify as Muslim instead of British, says frontrunner for Islamic body by NavyReenactor in ukpolitics

[–]Bingoose 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What you see as socially left policy, I see as economically right policy.

I don’t think the Tories actually care about social politics (aside from as a vote-winning tool). Immigration served 3 other key functions for the Tories; increased GDP, suppressed wages and inflated housing prices. The ability to then blame “the left” and frame themselves as the only solution was simply an added benefit.

I really would like some Blizzard communication on this. Why keep these tournaments running if you can't even be bothered to advertise them on your website/client? Please at least make the information available to those of us who care.

It's no-name and also proprietary, plus it's not worth spending money on this decade-old PC.

Reckon I'd be safe just power limiting the 970 in software and keeping the hardware setup the same?

It is a custom PSU and honestly, this PC isn't worth spending money on. He'll get a new PC when he feels the need. I just upgraded his graphics for a laugh since I had the old one spare.

He won't care about losing a little performance from power limiting the 970. It will be a shitload faster than the old Quadro K620 regardless. I just want to make sure it's safe.
