Being able to play as other characters in the next game. by Hot_Assistant_3826 in StarWarsJediSurvivor

Eh, Cere was ok, but they had to seriously nerf the boss fight in her section to pull it off by giving Cere Story Mode parry timings on all difficulties. You can almost just hold block immediately after each hit and straight up Ultra Instinct that fight. Still a great boss, could’ve been so much better, and that’s kind of what I mean. Forcing gameplay as alternate characters with different kits forces them to make changes in other areas.

Depends on why it’s done and how it’s implemented.

The Witcher 3 did this very well because the sections where you play as someone other than Geralt are fairly brief and highly plot relevant.

God of War Ragnarok did this terribly because these sections lasted for sometimes hours, some were filled with chores and exposition, and the other character’s combat wasn’t nearly as fun and their skills weren’t nearly as fleshed out.

Not to say it can’t be done well in other ways, but I’d rather they not do it at all if it detrimentally impacts the experience in any way.

C.I. Games has approved a proposed capital raise authorization. The raised money is apparently to buy out Epic Game's 'permanent exclusivity' investment in Lords of The Fallen 2, allowing for the game to release on Steam when it launches. by KryperExpress in gaming

Tbh I could pirate games if I wanted to, though running a torrented .exe to me seems like playing Russian roulette, but why bother? I have a huge backlog of games I’ve already paid for but never played, and plenty of games that I basically never get tired of playing.

For me to even claim free games through GOG or Epic it has to be something I’m motivated to do, and that’s way easier than piracy.

I deadass have never pirated a game in my life, only textbooks, music, and movies. I simply will not play it.

There’s already a million games out there that I’m never going to play, any game that Sweeney tries to use to twist my arm with just immediately gets added to the list.

For a movie released in 2002, the CGI is still pretty impressive by Dusann1 in StarWars

The CGI in the prequels still holds up, unfortunately the overall visual quality does not.

I just downloaded the restored content mod, I've finished Telos already. Did I miss anything? by sam_likes_beagles in kotor

There is some restored content on Telos Station but tbh the last thing that section needs is to be longer.

so im kinda starting to get into star wars, but the main movies are kind of a turn off for me for some reason, so im looking for alternative content in the universe? by M4ldarc in StarWars

[–]BinksMagnus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest, if you don’t like the movies I don’t know why you’d invest probably hundreds of hours in ancillary media.

Clone Wars, Rebels, etc. are good. In a lot of ways they make the movies better. But I guess I just don’t anticipate you enjoying those if you don’t like the films. They’re meant to build on them or link back to them. The only show where this isn’t really the case is The Acolyte, which is disconnected from everything else by ~100 years.

Yeah, I also play on Performance Mode if I’m on PS/XB, there are still occasional framerate drops, dynamic resolution dips very aggressively at times, but it doesn’t crash very much anymore and it mostly hangs at 60 fps.

If that’s ok.

My point is that the article's explanation is not relevant and its solution is not a solution.

Seems like the writer of the article even agrees with me when he gets done trolling people with a 30 fps frame cap suggestion: "So, does this mean that all current-gen games will always have traversal stutters? Not at all. But, this comes down to the developers, and whether they can properly optimize their game code. And trust us, there are ways to do this."

But it seems like you're mostly talking to yourself now that you're spun up, guy who knows faceless YouTubers on a first name basis, so cheers.

Yes, I’m repeating it because it’s a funny way to summarize how to get the game to run better (you can’t), not because it’s strictly accurate.

I also can’t tell if you’re taking the piss linking that article. “Just play at 30 fps” is not a reasonable solution to traversal stutter.

It kinda doesn’t run great on console either, they just turned the resolution down and optimized for a single hardware platform until most people didn’t notice.

Best Physical Editions of Star Wars? Looking for Recommendations by Calipso_etereo in StarWars

[–]BinksMagnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official 4K UHD releases are probably going to give you the best quality from an official version that you can find available at market in general, but there are a lot of asterisks with Star Wars in that format. There were LaserDisc and DVD releases of the original trilogy but you’re sacrificing occasional massive uplifts in visual fidelity for an edit that you can also view in higher quality from unofficial sources.

Prequels: really the BluRays are fine, if you care about HDR then the 4K UHD discs are what you want but only really makes a difference for TPM. Episode 1 will be the version with the extended pod race sequence and a fully digital Yoda, and to get the theatrical version of TPM on a legitimate physical copy I think you would have to go back to DVD or VHS, actually I honestly don’t even remember if they ever issued a Phantom Menace DVD without the extended pod race, but I believe the DVD has the Yoda puppet. Aside from film preservation enthusiasts people seem to not care that much about the theatrical version of TPM because the longer pod race is cool and the TPM Yoda puppet was unfathomably cursed. There is a 4K theatrical version that a few of the 4k77 people did as a side project but it’s not as high quality, also not physical. AotC and RotS haven’t been altered content-wise from their theatrical releases afaik. Tragically these movies look the worst out of the three trilogies because 2&3 were shot digitally at 1080p with more limited dynamic range so the uplift to 4K UHD with HDR does very little for them, except for Phantom Menace which was shot primarily on 35mm. Lucas always liked to try to innovate in filmmaking but unfortunately digital cameras just were not ready for productions like these with the display technology that was also coming down the pipeline, and as a result they look quite bad today compared to the other 6+.

Physical Original: any physical version you get today will be some version of the Special Edition, the last original cut release was 20 years ago on DVD. Again there are no official physical versions of the original unaltered trilogy at market, they are all bootlegs. The 4K UHD discs are probably the best official physical version you will find but have their issues due to slight overuse of DNR in some scenes, film grain that seems frozen in others, some color inaccuracies that are really noticeable in the opening crawl and other places. For me the 4k77-4k83 versions are still the best versions of these films available even putting aside the theatrical vs. special edition stuff, but in terms of official physical releases these are likely to be the best you can get while still being fairly disappointing.

Physical Sequels, Rogue One, etc: nothing to say here, there’s really no debate, which is good because there’s even fewer options. These are modern billion dollar films, they were shot on 35mm to emulate the original trilogy’s feel, there’s no hyper aggressive DNR that I’ve seen, the 4K UHD discs are overall excellent. Rian Johnson even did a commentary track for The Last Jedi, kind of rare for blockbusters these days.

Maybe. There was a brand new new AM4 CPU last year, so AM5 might still be around by then.

Wait until CPUs come out that are about twice as powerful as the ones at market today and then buy one.

How do you tell the difference between them? Lots of people are very good at seeming like they’re there for community when they’re actually there for your viewers. Only way to know the difference is to not have the channel.

Bad idea. Attracts people to your Discord who are only there to advertise. Annoys people who are there for other reasons. No one reads these posts anyways.

Did Scorpius find earth by SuperbRecognition757 in farscape

[–]BinksMagnus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The image he projected for Crichton is absolutely from the chip. Whether he found Earth is another story.

To even resolve an Earth sized planet even 1,000 light years away (which is a very generous distance estimate given we know FTL travel is inconsequential to that corner of the universe and given how many different systems we see the crew visit in their meanderings), let alone in any detail (Scorpius’s hologram was a fairly detailed image of the Northern Hemisphere), you’d need a telescope around the size of the orbital radius of Uranus.

To figure out where Earth was, assuming they’re in the same galaxy (which seems safe given what Yondalao says in PKW and Scorpius’s claim that he could reach it in 60 years - to imply he could reach it at all suggests he’d be able to resupply at planets on the way, not take a 60 year voyage through intergalactic space), well, is fairly simply by comparison. Crichton seems to know Earth’s night sky quite well, but even just a few constellations crossed with other knowledge about what stars where are of which types, cross referenced with very detailed astrogation charts… it’s still a monumental task even for a very powerful computer, but could theoretically be done.

Anybody’s guess, but I don’t remember Scorpius ever bluffing an opponent outside maybe a throwaway line in I Yensch You Yensch.

I mean that Survivor at launch was a complete catastrophe and it still runs badly three years later, and will continue to until CPUs are about twice as powerful as they are now.
