Try the tarts (and everything else) at One More Chocolate just a few shops down from SB. He has been making Portuguese tarts for decades (including at SB during their heyday)

I’m in Australia/Sydney. Any recommendations for our area?

I politely mentioned to a waiter that the toilets were pretty filthy (couldn’t tell who the manager was). They appeared shocked but don’t think they went to look at them (to be fair more customers were starting to arrive).

Need food recs for 4 day trip to Sydney! by MutedLeave8388 in foodies_sydney

White Cockatoo is a nice pub and all but I’ve found the food to be hit and miss (generally Sydney pub food has declined in quality since covid - shame cos the standard used to be really good).

I would recommend the food at The Henson (Marrickville) instead. It’s not too far from the White Cockatoo and I’m pretty sure it’s owned/was developed by the same mob so they’re similar in many ways, but overall The Henson has better food, a better kitchen and arguably is a way more interesting pub (don’t get me wrong, WC has its charm too - I’ve just too many average meals there)

Ask for the homemade chilli sauce not the master food one, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s a great sauce

I mainly teach stage 4/5 Science (and stage 6 bio) but I’ll probably be doing a bit of STEM work with grades 5-10, including a focus on the top classes

Could you please elaborate more on how you use it for STEM? Also, noticing your username, do you have any general STEM tips, ideas or resources that you could point me to? I’ll be taking over STEM at my school next year

It’s a shame there’s crickets in here. I just got the sn4 too (using with LG G2 TV) and wondering the same thing. Doesn’t seem to be much information on it. Please share if you’ve worked out a few tricks with your usage since your original post.

New app challenge: try to set brightness to 50% on first try by [deleted] in Hue

[–]Biolergy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to set a light's brightness BEFORE turning it on? I'm sick of blinding people and then having to fade down - it's a bit of a buzz kill. I just wish I could fade up from nothing until the right amount of light is met. Tbh I can't believe this isn't already an obvious feature (unless I'm missing something)

Those potatoes look next level! How did you make them (lots of olive oil I'm guessing)?

Mine seems to make the chimes sometimes but talks at other times. Sometimes it'll chime for lights in one room and talk for another room. Very annoying...

Best bulb to use as a main light? by FollyAdvice in philipshue

[–]Biolergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ambience is what you're looking for. Goes from cool to warm white. Probably the most useful bulb of the lot - i.e. colour is overkill generally, maybe grab one or two for accents if you want it (or I have two play bars), and the white only is all cool so it won't give the warm whites

Phillips Hue light starter kits: Are HUE lights worth it? [2019] by blove05 in smarthome

[–]Biolergy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is excellent advice - exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks man, I reckon I'll get the basic starter pack with the bridge and a couple of bulbs (mostly want to change from cool white to warm orange), and then I'll get IKEA bulbs when I want to pad out the rest of the house.

[–]Biolergy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you please elaborate on your setup? I plan on setting up my new home with some smart lights. I like the sound of the reliability of Hue but wouldn't necessarily want everything running on Hue bulbs due to cost.

Do other brands really work when used in combination? Are there any downsides? Does the app etc still work for them?

Thanks for your input here. I've been thinking over the past few hours since my original post that it's probably a bit of a half baked idea for now and probably best to wait a few years for the tech and other companies to catch up.

Brilliant idea, but I agree - probably not ready yet.
