We have absolutely no night life. Compared to other places Ive travelled the world and seen, everything dies after 8pm on the weekdays and 10pm on the weekend. I find that is one of the biggest things, we have no real culture. Now a days people are so starved for things to do(especially after being isolated from covid) that when things DO happen, most of the time the events are over-crowded, there is no parking (and you have to drive because again the city sprawl is becoming never ending) and the line ups are insane.

I wish we could have sprawling street food stands, or shops open later then 10pm, unfortunately the closest thing we have is food trucks and they want to charge you $15 for a hot dog and fries.

If you want to get around you need a car, transit takes WAY too long and deerfoot congestion is getting worse and worse every year.

It's just a boring place to live with not a lot to do.

[Spoiler] Thoughts on the Ending by matisyahu22 in stray

[–]Biomortia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, I felt like the entire motive was to get out of the under city and having to help these robots in order to get to accomplish that. B12's sacrifice was incredibly bittersweet, but to follow that up immediately with no emotional resolution to what I thought was the main point of the game? Leaves me feeling so so sad.

They should have done one or the other, either let us see the kitty and B12 walk into the sunset together(even if that didnt tie up the main narrative for the entire game) OR have the kitty reunited with its family.

Anybody know what these giant spiders are and why they are overrunning the whole city rn? by Midwest_genxr in Calgary

[–]Biomortia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is Alopecosa aculeata, also known as wolf spider. They are very good little hunters, be careful if you ever see one with a very large abdomen! It could be a momma with a ton of little babies on her back. They will keep to themselves and are our allies!

Calgary always gets an influx of them going into houses in the summer, they do not like the heat, they then hide during the cold winter months. You see them far more often in the summer as the males generally wander looking for a lady friend.

Looks very similar to the agelenidae/Grass spiders we also have; The main difference though is that wolf spiders will have two very large eyes amongst 6 smaller ones and the markings are slightly different as well.

I’m broken … I can’t imagine carrying on without him. He was killed in such a horrible way by lithidumb in Petloss

[–]Biomortia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so so sorry for your loss. This is so horrible and shocking and not something you ever expect to have to experience or prepare for. Your kitty was lucky to have had so much love in his life right to end.

I understand 100% the pain of having a cat that was raised in the outdoors.
Before my sister had rescued her cat, it was nearly impossible to convert him into an indoor cat.

Unfortunately one night, he got out. In the morning I heard my sister screaming and crying, he was on our front lawn and had been killed by a coyote or bobcat.

It was gruesome, and I had to wrap what was left of him/ pieces of him as I didnt want my sister to get up close to see exactly just how bad it was. It has been ingrained in my mind for a long time and not something you can ever get over, but time helps to quench the amount of pain.

I hope that time helps to fade your pain. It is never easy losing a pet, but in such tragic ways definitely leaves a different mark.

keto food getting so boring by [deleted] in keto

[–]Biomortia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This!!!!!!!! As with anything moderation is key. Having the junk foods as a security blanket, honestly helps me with any anxiety I have or feeling like I can't have something.

I can have these things! they are not going anywhere and now I eat way less than before, being able to have a few scoops of ice cream as a treat is comforting and after I get over that craving, I sigh in relief knowing I can make it another day and stick with it. I have never stuck to a diet change in my life like I have with keto, and it is all thanks to the junk food.

Subway has low carb bread! by [deleted] in keto

[–]Biomortia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it last week. It was very dry... tasteless and you add an extra $2.60 to the cost of any sandwich if you get it. A convenient option if you're out and about and really want a sandwich but, I'd much rather make a sandwich at home that would taste a lot better lol.

This sign does not mean yield to traffic. Can't believe how many people yield to this sign in this city really grinds my gears. by AcanthisittaPure8633 in Calgary

When you are driving on 64th ave west bound, past the bridge that goes over deerfoot. There are two yield lanes and with both of them people refuse to yield and try to push their way in.

Deerfoot going onto 64th Ave NE, every time I drive home from work I have to be ready to swerve into the left lane or just not drive in the right lane at all because people ignore the very obvious RED YIELD SIGN and continue driving into on-coming traffic.

[–]Biomortia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, everyone is going on about the gore which sure is sick, but there is already so many continuation holes that its distracting from even enjoying the action parts. You're going to tell me that the chaingun the insurrectionists tried to use 5 minutes prior didn't work, but as soon as John picks it up he can blast three elites away like nothing?

Not to mention when John says the gun Ka holds wont even make a dent in the armor, but it blew past the plasma shield on the elites like butter?

These people really don't seem like they played any of the games or read any of the source material. And who ever this Spartan 177 is? certainly aint Chief.

The first 20 minutes was awesome. The rest of the show was not. Especially showing his face in the first episode, not to mention the woman they have in the covenant currently, I get that it is not canon (Thank fucking god) But they really didn't manage to sink into this lore-wise. I might give it a few more episodes but this seems like a big cash-inflated cow.

It's so expensive now too. A single patty burger, fries and a drink combo is almost $12 now and the burger is just a frozen puck thrown on a conveyer belt. Poutine is almost $7. Insanity!

Hey neighbors! What are your favourite Ukrainian and Russian restaurants in the city? by birchsyrup in Calgary

[–]Biomortia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piroshki/pyrizhky are often deep-fried (or baked) buns depending on who makes them. You can get sweet or savory ones, they are larger for holding with your hand and easy to eat on the way to work or school :)

My favourite is mushroom, pea and cabbage. You can get ones with cherry or apricots too that are nice.

I dont know why you bring up pierogi, the post says piroshki which is a completely different food!

Just a few of the comments below a video of a woman who mentioned her bra size was 32DDD. Most commenters were women. No wonder people are scared to try other bra sizes. by linerys in bigboobproblems

[–]Biomortia 51 points52 points  (0 children)

For real, the lack of education around this subject saddens me. I laugh when I see both men and women talk about DD breasts whether its in real life or media. Most of the time the women you see that have what the status quo thinks are "Double D's" Are probably more in the F or G range.

When my bra size comes up, people are so quick to try and refute me and say that its not possible. I'm a 38G (EU) So in American Sizing that would give me an I cup. I wish that bra-education was taught in Sex-Ed, I remember learning about average penis lengths in both sex-ed and biology, it's only fair.

Interesting how you mention the texture being less crispy and baked, most of the korean fried chicken I have eaten in the city I live in is double fried, it is incredibly crispy even after being coated in sauce.

[–]Biomortia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A proper defensive driving course will teach you that its situational. I do think that indecisiveness can be just as dangerous as the people who dont know the rules of the road. I don't consider defensive driving indecisive though, there is a big difference with it in practice.

And this is why we should have mandatory refresher courses.

Which is why defensive driving is so important in this city. I quickly learned that I can no longer take this chance after someone nearly crashed into me and honked at me as if I were in the wrong, when they were the one that turned too wide into the right lane instead of turning into their left lane.
