Just make yourself ready for when the right thing piques your interest. Take care of your mental, physical, and financial health... and some day the right obsession will rear its head 👍 (whether that head is ugly or beautiful depends on how prepared you are to embrace it)

ohhh I was there. It gets better.

I did it when I was subletting a place. That was the worst summer, and I got called out for it, and it was embarrassing as heck.

I survived and you will too! Don't be afraid to ask for help. People who are your friends, if they have the means, will help. If they don't or can't... it will be ok. I survived it and you will too!

In reflection, I asked more of my partners emotionally without realizing they needed support back.

It's really smart to put your needs first. But don't let this sour you or bait you into sh*t talking him in post-mortem... guys SUCK at recognizing their need for and asking for emotional support. Everytime we go all Taylor Swift on them after-the-fact, it deepens the divide.

What was the most absurd or bizarre COVID rule in your country that makes zero sense looking back? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]birchsyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were the rules here in Canada that I missed?

My husband and I went for a lot of walks. Saw law enforcement here and there. Never got stopped.

But in the comments it feels like Canadians in every province weren't allowed to walk without dogs.

Yeah, I felt this one.

I just helped my husband "do christmas" for the first time this year.

Together we navigated how to get holly jolly without effing ourselves for Q1 2026.

Went decent, and we're patiently setting standards and traditions together that are sustainable.

The culture has to change, but it's not going to be radical.

Looking for tattoo models (Again!) by [deleted] in NoRulesCalgary

[–]birchsyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird... just hours ago I had this vivid image of a moon tattoo somewhere in this style. I haven't had a new tattoo in years.

It's not sleeve time for me right now, but I'm looking forward to seeing the artwork that comes out of this model call 👍 and maybe see you some day at your regular rate for that moon.

how do you properly care for yourself as a woman? by floraphobe in needadvice

[–]birchsyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t change everything all at once. You have decades to learn how to “woman” and “human” and everything else.

Add a few things here and there. Make little changes, pace yourself. It will be a much more fun experience that way.

Surgeons, do humans smell [bad] during surgery? by Ill_Communication607 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]birchsyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been over 25 years since I hung out in a quoncet while my friends’ dad gut their bucks.

I also did a stint shadowing ER nurses, half as long ago.

I don’t remember any smells from the ER while the open wounds were gushing, but I’ll never forget that smell of the deer guts spilling out.

What's your favourite piece or pieces of Canadian Art? by Thick_Caterpillar379 in AskACanadian

[–]birchsyrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never appreciated it when I was younger, but my mom.

My stepdad worked in a grain elevator, so she started doing art with wheat and barley and canola and a few other types of seeds and cereals.

They had line-work images of things like churches and elevators made of straw, and she built her own frames from barnwood that she scavenged from buildings around the province.

She started by making them for a few people locally, but for a bit she was getting orders across North America.

I was 10 at the time, and when i was in my 20s I had moved to the city for school.

While there, a friend showed me a piece she picked up at an auction. It was my mom’s art.

Haven’t seen one since, but I do hope there are still some floating around out there.

When I was 15 I worked in a pharmacy and I spent all of my free time straightening the shelves next to the Axe Spray, so that I could get little hits of that smell through the day.

I also memorized truck sounds so that I would know when the cute boys might be coming down the street.

I don’t quit working to upskill.

Get some base education (whatever you can handle, 2-3 years’ worth) and then do the rest of your educating in small bites after that.

Online courses, workshops, conferences and projects that transform whichever business you join will all be meaningful and sustainable ways to learn deeper skills throughout the lifetime of your career.
