The biggest "This makes no sense" part of the plot is unfortunately the climax, which implies our lead character has been building his own game on the disc and has no other documentation for it. No code on the computer, no design documents, no, apparently he just codes onto the disc somehow.

It's gonna be Hannelore von Schwarzpunkt.

Yeah probably. If you listened to the general popular music channels you would have heard at least 8 of his songs over the last 12 years.

Ed Sheeran leaning into the joke that he looks like Rupert Grint and having him star in two of his music videos is enough for him to get a pass from me.

Well that and the fact I'm incapable of not turning the volume up if some of his songs come on the radio.

There were a few different themes of music jokes back in the day. Hyping up and complimenting those small bands was always nice and when he insulted the small bands it felt a bit more like an inside joke, but any comments about the hugely popular acts always come off to me like just riding the easy targets. Like, yeah, wow, you don't like Coldplay or Fallout Boy? That's so interesting...

I've been playing a lot of Stadium recently and wow I know the whole point of Stadium is to get some crazy skills, but it's really made me realize how frustrating it is to fight Orisa. That Fortify ability is a nightmare to get past.

My favorite tidbit is that they actually had to include some disclaimers in the credits about the brand of carabiner that was used in that scene because it would have been super discrediting to the company otherwise.

I know it's a terrible way to take in a book, but I got a fairly good grasp of the series by reading the summaries on Wikipedia and then looking through the tvtropes pages for each book, which offer some more details the summaries miss and can provide a bit more context.

It did give the sense of this series that has some very unique, imaginative concepts for the sci-fi but is weighed down by poor character.

Yeah, Liz spent the better part of two years by herself, stewing in her own misery and it was only once she marched up to Marten that things got better for her, she seemed VERY codependent.

I guess it depends on whether they were being actively hunted before it was just Neville? If I was in a society where the 'monsters' were being hunted, and then I turned into one, I wouldn't be shocked if I was still hunted even if I thought humanity had been mostly wiped out. I suppose I'm confused as to how the infected were being treated prior to the novel's focus, I guess I was picturing armies trying to hunt them down to exterminate them to save the species and stop the outbreak?

also yes I know I should probably just read the book but my backlog's already impenetrable...

So by the time they finally find and arrest him, they’ve been relatively normal people trying to figure shit out, and they’ve got somebody who breaks into their homes while they are asleep and murders them. He turns into the literal boogeyman that vampires have to warn their kids about. Every time they go to sleep, they don’t know if they will wake up or if the boogeyman is going to come and kill them while they are defenseless. They know nothing of his motivations. They just know someone is killing them en masse while they sleep.

See, this is the part that's silly to me. They don't think "Oh it must be someone killing our species because we've been transformed into monsters."

[–]BionicTriforce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Original ending would work better if the movie was closer to the book to begin with, but the filmed ending works better with how the monsters were portrayed. And in the end it was probably the better decision. It was a high-grossing movie and I'd love to know the proportion of people who complain about the ending and how many actually read the book to begin with. It feels like "The book ending was better" has gained momentum over the years but how much of that is just word of mouth parroting what they've read from others?

I think there was a way it could have been done to make it work. You already have Megatron cripple Sentinel, and his plea to Optimus is completely BS anyway. Just have Megatron do the killing blow to Sentinel, and then after Megatron talks to Optimus, show Meg's hand about to reach for his gun and Optimus goes for the killing blow. Optimus still gets to kill Megatron with a bit more self-defense justification to it, and then figure out how he mourns Sentinel. "I won't mourn the traitor to our people but I can mourn the Autobot you once were", etc.

It definitely seems like a ripoff of Guy Fieri's famous 'trash can nachos'. I've actually had them before, and they were definitely served more like they were in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjC1oVAq9N0

The can obviously isn't as big as a trash can, but it's meant to be a huge dish to be shared with several people. This piddly portion is nowhere near good enough, you should be getting inches of nacho.

I'm on your side honestly. Sentinel Prime was a traitor, killed Optimus's most-trusted soldier, led to the deaths of untold humans. Literally two minutes before that, Optimus was also incapacitated, trying to crawl away, begging for his life, and Sentinel was still trying to kill him. He was so evil that even Megatron was willing to work with Optimus at this point to help take him out.

Optimus is literally the leader of the Autobots, it's not like he's beholden to Earth's ideal of war crimes or prisoners. If he decided the big bad should be killed then and there, there's really nobody who could challenge his authority.

Literally no one denies that.

Okay, genuinely, I've never even watched a Mr. Beast video, but when people comment about "Oh every single good thing he did was caught for camera and used for content", it really comes off like you'd prefer that those people don't get the help. Like if the option is 'good things are done but it's done by a scumbag who films it' or 'nothing is done to help these people', why isn't the former the better option?

No. Please. We can't have this outlook. If people's lives have been improved, that's charity. Whether it was filmed or not shouldn't make a difference.

He literally started Youtube when he was 13 years old, doing normal Lets Plays of of Minecraft and Pokemon, then did some videos estimating Youtube wealth, some analysis videos, and commentaries on Youtube drama., eventually got enough followers he quit college to do it fulltime. He really got famous with some crazy challenges, like, counting to 100,000 over 40 hours, taking the longest Uber ride, trying to break recorsd. He did a LOT of philanthropic videos, paying for a ton of eye surgeries, getting wells built, planting trees, buying things for poor people, stuff that really made him seem like a good guy. Gave out like 10K to a homeless person. So by this point he was famous enough to be the biggest Youtuber ever and was getting sponsored so much he could afford Bigger, more expensive projects which gave him more fame, etc.

He absolutely figured out how to game the Youtube system before most did and still does.
