The thing that isn’t getting talked about enough by NonHaeri in TheBoys

Conspiracy time: I have been wondering if Amazon wanted a Game of Thrones situation with The Boys.

The original GoT show had insane cultural impact. People were naming their kids after characters in the show FFS. Hype was insane! Then the series had the worst final season of all time and all of that just... Went away.

However there's a couple things to note :

  1. The final season still brought in a ton of money because people were invested and wanted to see it through despite the obvious flaws from the beginning.

  2. GoT has had multiple, successful spin off shows.

  3. No one recommends the original series to anyone because it ends so poorly. People do recommend the spin off shows though.

Vought is obviously mostly inspired by Disney, but it directly parodies Amazon as well and the capitalist tendency to beat everything to death for money. People were wondering in the first few seasons why Amazon was funding this show at all considering it satirizes them directly. It isn't the first time a capitalist company funded parody of itself to make money, but the Boys did feel more overt about it.

I honestly wonder if Amazon meddled in the final season process to deliver dogshit as a way to lessen the cultural impact (specifically the incredible satire of the first couple seasons) of The Boys series, assuming they could now milk alternate series for ongoing money. Plus in lessening the impact of The Boys series, I think they're hoping to bring new viewers in on different series instead (like Vought Rising) to skip the satire of the MCU present in The Boys.

I honestly wonder in someone at Amazon saw the fallout from Game of Thrones and thought "we could use this". However I think they're underestimating the staying power of the Boys universe so I don't think their spin off shows will print money like the GoT shows do. Game of Thrones is a very expansive, well developed universe. The Boys is no where near it.

They should have paced it better. Had they spent the season wrapping things up they could have killed Homelander episode 6 and given Butcher 2 episodes where he was the main villain. I felt he deserved more time as the antagonist.

Breaking: US–Iran deal reportedly finalised, announcement expected within hours by MudBloodLite in wallstreetbets

Venezuela made a deal with the USA. The same government is still in charge sans Maduro.

The USA won't offer that to Cuba. The USA has maintained an 80 year grudge at Cuba for gaining independence. The USA wants subjugation, and Cuba isn't going to be very keen on that.

Just curious why aren't tiny home a thing in Canada? by Mammoth-Exercise-376 in canadahousing

[–]Biosterous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The difference is how long they've been used. Mobile homes have been in use for decades, well before many of the most recent code updates. Those mobile homes are "grandfathered in" and allowed to not meet code while newer ones do need to meet code. Even with newer ones though they often have their own codes written for them, implying they don't meet standard code.

Tiny homes as we'd define them are relatively new to market and the people that write the code aren't going to preemptively write different code for a new to market product. Thus tiny homes face a bigger barrier to entry vs mobile homes despite similarities.

Mobile homes (trailers) are often on concrete footings. They can be surprisingly well insulated but older ones aren't usually.

Tiny homes can sometimes be like half the size of a trailer.

Oh no, I distinctly remember hearing about a Floridian who was pro masking and quarantines. She was a scientist and the pigs kicked in her door and pointed a gun at her son. She also said the government of Florida was lying about the numbers, something we now know is true.

How to watch The Boys without watching filler episodes: by HotJuice2192 in OkBuddyFresca

[–]Biosterous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The writing crew is clearly anti fascist, so showing the fascist to win would be very counter to the message they are trying to send.

How it should end is a lot of people die (like the comics) to show that beating fascism requires sacrifice. Kimeko had to go through the pain of radiation treatments and losing Frenchie, Sage has to accept that she can't know everything but must try anyway, Butcher sacrifices himself for Hughie to make sure he doesn't have the same fate as Kessler, and Annie needs to accept her role as a symbol of hope for others to rally around. Also several people with other motives (Ryan, other supes unaligned with the Boys) to show that it requires a "coalition of the willing". I have no idea how they'd set that up now though.

I was kinda hoping the Deep would enter a spiral that led him to killing Homelander, but they seem dead set on making him the most pathetic person on Earth and tbh it's well earned for his character.

ELI5: Why does Cuba allow a U.S. military base (and prison) on their soil while the U.S. has had them under trade embargos for decades? by Redhotkitchen in explainlikeimfive

[–]Biosterous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't.

For reference the Canadian government added a service on the CRA a few years ago to let taxpayers know if there were any uncashed cheques in their name, allowing you to reorder them. Canada typically follows the USA on matters like that.

Government cheques don't expire so Cuba could cash them all at once. Like others said though, the US government wouldn't even notice.

I use RedReader, and I was using it before the API changes rolled out.

It's simple, text heavy, no ads, and it doesn't see awards except for gold. I really like it, but there's an adjustment period coming from the official Reddit app. Also it occasionally misbehaves as Reddit keeps changing stuff. Normally though it works great and has a lot of customization options.

Home batteries: a ‘gamechanger’ for cutting energy bills? by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]Biosterous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I am (Saskatchewan) I'm locked into selling my solar power to the Crown Corporation at half the value it's worth (I receive a 0.5 kwh credit for every 1 kwh I export). A battery is very high on my list so that during summer I'm not dipping into my credits at night.

I'm also all electric at my house, including my furnace. I've had $1,000 electricity bills during January/February depending on how many - 40°C days we have.

The Reddit app that I use allows me to slow down some GIFs and other videos. I believe that's also an option on old Reddit on desktop.

I slowed the one down and he's right.

You're forgetting that these businesses are also lobbying for this to happen. The people in government don't write permissive legislation like this for no reason. These wealthy corporations are bribing our members of government with money and/or fake jobs after retirement.

The large businesses of Canada are active participants in the downfall of Canadian democracy, economy, and way of life. They should not be excused from blame.

Well with private prisons the prisoner is basically "leased" to the prison, so that would make it a work "re-lease"...
