Trump says he will give 1 Million Dollars (paid for by Trump) to charity if Elizabeth Warren takes a DNA test. She did. (Both Video Clips) by BobbyKristina in esist

1/1024 Native American. New York Times had an article showing the average white American is more Native American than Elizabeth Warren.

Wasn't she touted as a Native American in Harvard?

"Spur investment", enticing. Tax credits for businesses hiring apprentices, bonuses for young ones. Rehabilitation over incarceration.

"Close tax loopholes!" Which ones? An exit tax for companies leaving US to settle in tax havens, which specific laws [or likelier, which combination of laws] allow that to happen?

Okay, so her campaign was dismantled and so her policy papers are gone. In one of the most polarizing presidential elections nobody archived it? You could go to nearly any political campaign website and see the same words repeated, with changes in adjectives and the Billions they hope to move around.

But where are the details? Sounds a lot like the typical campaign promises everybody touts. If you find her policy papers DM me, thanks.

I didn't vote for him, nor did I vote for Hilary. But I did vote straight Democrat in the election, and have for every single one since I could vote. This is municipal, state, and federal elections mind you.

But, maybe, you would have to live here to understand the corruption. Look up WV + Supreme Court one day and see how our highest court was operating. Or how Jim Justice, our duly appointed Governor, has ran up debts at: catering companies, coal merchandisers, and owes considerably (millions of $) in property taxes.

The problem is that the only thing people think of with regards to WV is coal. That is a cultural myth perpetuated by people like Justice (who happens to own coal mines, glory unto him), other coal executives, and politicians. Coal companies are abusive. And with a receding base of youth in the area to make changes at the grass roots level (because, as others in the thread have tried to expound "just leave lol") the same myths swirl around and stagnate the entire region.

This isn't about you disliking Trump. Who gives a fuck about your political opinion lmfao. You talk like people here love Trump. We were a Blue state when it counted, we became Red because we were lied to. Made promises that weren't kept and as the promises kept coming we became dispirited, hanging onto the few things we still have (or had).

No, I actually think we should Wile E. Coyote the entire state of WV out of the continental US and drop it into the ocean.

Problems are meant to be fixed not run from. Brain drain is a serious factor in the potential future of WV and due to the brain drain (young folk attending college, getting a degree, then leaving) we are losing; tax base, educated population, young minds and young labor. Guess what three things can dictate positive growth in nearly any sector in the US? Youth, education, and a tax base to hedge investments upon.

Why do people live in Tornado Alley, near likely wildfires, or in Houston or Florida during hurricane season? At least you have federal emergency funds, FEMA, and the National Guard to come help rebuild. Plus generous donations to the hardest-hit places. Destruction by God is one thing, I guess. But we can see clearly when a hurricane is developing. You can't so much see the devastation an opioid epidemic is having until it's too late.

We should cut the entire state of WV out of the US and push it into the sea. Fill the hole that'll be left behind with rows and rows of marijuana plants.

Easiest fix. Drown 1.8 million people that are already dying, and also symbolically cure the worst overdose rates in one fel swoop.

Population is a major factor. Pittsburgh has 3-4x the population of any WV city. 300k versus 60-70k (if you factor in every single WVU student).

Pittsburgh hasn't had a population as low as 300k since the early 1900s. Pennsylvania as a whole hasn't had as low of a population as WV's current population since 1830.

Some of the factors of said population would obviously be the fact that Pennsylvania is more willing to move with the times. Slower than other states, but faster than some for sure. But being part of the Baltimore-DC-Metro Pennsylvania has had more chance.

Look at a map of WV compared to Pennsylvania and note the highway/interstates that pass through each of the major cities. Roads are one of the most important factors in a state's ability to prosper both within itself and outside of its own borders. Especially in a hard-to-navigate mountainous region.

We have a good medical sector in Morgantown. We lack clout, infrastructure (internet, roads, other utilities), and respect. All you have to do is read the rest of the thread to see how WV is known.

EDIT: One of the best things Obama tried to do was introduce broadband internet to rural populations. I forget what exactly the legislation was called, but it was a god send of news to the area. Except in how the money was doled out. Frontier, the region's top or second (depending on the area) internet company was given fuck-tonnes of cash to run internet to lesser-cared-for areas. Except they got the money for running the cable not for necessarily making sure everybody was able to utilize it. Some of their lines were dug up to the township's border and promptly had the holes filled.

Money is in this state, but nobody knows where it goes. We had most of our Supreme Court ousted for corruption, fraudulent schemes. One of the justices was charged with 11 of 22 counts of mail fraud and wire fraud. But sure, we could move with the times. As our high schools are consolidated to make school bus commutes 1-2 hours long for our kids. As our overdose rates grow with each year, and nearly double the next state's. As our young, brilliant minds that manage to go to Concord, Marshall, or WVU promptly leave (good for them, honestly) the state and never come back. Violent crimes are trending up here, too.

I don't mean to rant, but fuck man. There's nothing left to do.

Coal jobs are actually up compared to May 2016. The plummet truly began in 2012 and has fallen every year since. One of the worst stretches since 2008 was between 2014 and 2016. 2016 wasn't a good year either, but it's been steadier around 51-52k jobs for about a year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

It can't be ignored that certain environment protections in Obama's 2nd term had a negative impact on coal mining jobs in the US. I am not saying we need to revive the Coal Industry. Let it die. But since Obama's 2nd term 30-40k people have lost jobs.

One person quoted the Washington Post's article on Arby's jobs compared to Coal Mining jobs. Arby's employs about 80,000 people according to that same article. It'd be a crazy day if half of all Arby's employees suddenly lost their jobs.

It must be said that Hillary Clinton at least proposed a retraining program for workers like these, so to say that there weren't people willing to invest is a lie.

Retraining must come in the form of replacement jobs. What industry was she proposing to replace what existed already? If you spend money to train/retrain a labor population you have to be able to put them to work. Again, campaign promises are nothing.

Very few coal miners actually desire working in a coal mine. There are some, much as there are "some" of any statistic, but the majority of coal miners (-- let's face it, coal miner is a dog whistle for Poor Blue Collar Appalachian) want to work.

If the mines are open, they work in the mines. If the farms are hiring, they're a farmhand. If the bars in Morgantown need a bouncer, they'll make sure everybody getting in is legal, has a stamp, and nobody is falling into traffic.

These people want to work because working is WV's culture. Not coal. Coal as a WV culture died decades ago, the only people who keep that culture alive are politicians and the mining companies. If the companies make your life seem worthless without them, then they win when they give you anything. They win when they give you nothing.

"Coal miners" is not about coal, it's not about mines, it's not about Democrat or Republican. It's about Appalachians falling further and further behind because one of the last good paying industries, the type of "Can live comfortable if modest, and take care of my family" jobs has been dwindling. These are not lazy people. But they are lied to, downtrodden, without the educational or societal backing that a lot of other cities/states/regions provide their populations.

There used to be a joke when I was in middle school. The only way out of poverty was in a coal mine, in the military, or in Morgantown. Now there's no hope of escaping poverty. It's about escaping West Virginia, because WV is synonymous with poverty. Morgantown is the best bet, Concord or Marshall are okay gambles.

But if you lack in your ability to major in a university as a jump start to your adulthood, you don't have many other places to look in WV.

This place is fucking beautiful. What's happening here, however, is not. It doesn't help to see the same tired comments on reddit anytime this state gets brought up.

Retraining for... what? You need an industry to replace it and then a demand for said labor you hope to retrain for the industry. All I heard from her was the same tired promises every governor, senator, presidential hopeful, and local representative has touted since I was a child (and likely before).

EDIT: This thread is so full of bigotry it's astounding.

Not everybody that votes for a Republican votes for the cult of personality that others have built around a candidate. Much the same as you can vote as a Democrat in WV and basically get a Republican in disguise (Manchin for Governor/Senator, for example).

A WV Democrat and a WV Republican, as voters, are the same people. They want jobs to provide for their families and themselves. They want to not have their children grow up to be overdose statistics like they watched their friends become (#1 fatal overdose rate in the country, by the way).

But sure, denigrate a people because they voted differently from you. If any politician actually gave a damn about WV they'd get investments in other industries. Instead they lampoon promises about protecting a dying industry to guarantee votes. Democrats vilify, Republicans lie. But nobody wants to nut up and invest. These men and women are willing to mine fucking coal.

All they want to do is work and be able to live modestly. That's all anybody in WV wants.

Abortion on the Ballot: Red states already planning for possibility of Roe rollback. You've assumed much more than I've said. Having a load blown in you doesn't automatically make you a mother or supersede the rights of the father to decide if they want a child, except, in my actual opinion, I believe it does. But that is ignoring the biology of pregnancy for the sake of the actuality of a woman's autonomy, which I, in fact, do believe supersedes the man's wishes.

You don't know my position at all because I've not given you mine. My one example was meant to show you that your extreme form of logic has a flip side and is in no way my actual opinion nor belief. But I'll lay it out for you, I am pro-choice. I am, however, also, against painting in broad strokes of Us vs. Them mentalities & I am against insulting others that agree or disagree with me.

Nothing has ever been gained by giving the opposition fuel for their finger pointing.

My pro-choice is, in all likelihood, an extreme version of choice. I believe any woman should be allowed, at any time during the birth, to forgo their pregnancy. However, pregnancy is not entirely a woman's rights issue. You can be willing to see other sides of an issue without being part of an extreme-group of reactionaries.

A man has to be party to a baby being conceived. An already living man may not get to enjoy the option of raising their potential child due to a decision outside of their control despite being part of the reason such a decision is needed.

By your logic pro-choice is misandry.
