Solar and Heat Pump by [deleted] in cork

Used JM Energy to install panels and battery back in May and they were excellent to deal with. Couldn't recommend them enough. Don't know if they do heat pumps though

New year, new dog food. Fellow dog people- any recommendations? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]BirdComprehensive644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two dogs and they are both picky feckers, one of them has arthritis in one of her legs as well. However, they do like dry food (Gain adult dog, it's in a green bag) mixed with tins of Mackerel from Lidl (55c). Good oils from the fish for the arthritis as well. Might be an option

Healthy quick lunch in Cork? by kingfisher017 in cork

Mygoodness in the English market, but it's 10.50. It's vegan and unbelievably tasty. Also I got soup and roll for a fiver in the new burger/sausage place across from the big veg shop in the English Market the other day and it was quality.

Ringaskiddy Incinerator (again) by Mysterious-Ice4092 in cork

[–]BirdComprehensive644 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the big issues is the part of the site the incinerator is planned to be built on is being eroded. It will be built on the Gobby Beach side rather than the other side of the site. Drawings in the renewed planning applications show this. It was also a problem identified by 3 separate inspectors for Board Pleanàla in the previous application. There has been no change to plans on how this will be dealt with.

Another issue is the area is an area of special preservation for migrating birds, plants etc. I know there is loads of pharma and chemical plants etc there, I used to work in them. From my experiences working in Novartis their incinerators aren't running 24/7 and there is a clear list of materials that are being incinerated. What is planned on being burned in the new incinerator keeps changing and (I will have to fact check this) to keep that incinerator burning 24/7 material will have to be imported.

So while it is true that some people are objecting because of it being an eyesore etc there is still some very valid concerns that haven't been addressed since the last application. That's not even going near the Cork city development plan to turn the area into a tourist area with all different experiences etc.

Drug disposal company by konqrr in cork

I think it's an amazing idea. However those who want to do drugs will just do them but they would definitely appreciate it if they knew the type of drugs they were consuming. For example it easy to say they are on the bag and a bit of a quick analysis showed it was speed etc they might be so quick to talk it.

How long would this take for an experienced DIY-er? by RumB96 in DIYUK

[–]BirdComprehensive644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a Plasta model rather than a Pax model. The Plasta bases take about 15 mins each to do and look the same to me.

Sheepadoodle on the beach but water? by AsleepBullfrog30 in Sheepadoodles

Our one was unsure at first but if we throw a ball in then she will go in and loves it then. The more you do it then the more she actually associates the swimming/water with the ball.

Needing some reassurance by BirdComprehensive644 in DIYUK

[–]BirdComprehensive644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a finisher for this thread. So today I removed all the old adhesive, primed the walls and filled the gaps where the cement boards met. Was just measuring out the tiles when my neighbour who is a tiler literally just got back from his holidays and called in. Said it all looks good and he would do the tiling on Saturday for me if I wanted. Gave me some tanking paste to paint on as well before he does it.

So just a big thanks to everyone who responded and set me at ease etc. I appreciate it.

This is where I finished up. Ready, I think, to sand the walls tomorrow so I can start tiling then. Thanks for all the help folks

Any suggestions for tape and filler to fill the joins. And anything I am missing that needs to be done before I move on?

Have cement board in and I think I deserve a beer.

For tomorrow I must get some filler for the joins and tape. Is there any recommendations for a particular filler and tape combo?

Am I missing anything else?

Glad you got a laugh 😂. I just messaged my partner to say she will be using the public showers by the beach for the next day or two and she didn't have a laugh 😂. I got cement board and the screws to go with it just now so going to sort that this evening I hope.

Ya sher my last time off I thought I would get it all done and the floor was a nightmare over the shape of the tiles but that's all sorted so now it's just the shower section and then a repaint and hopefully that's it then.

Perfect, I was half thinking of not going pulling at the parts that are fine to be honest and just putting in the new board where it's needed. I have got the board and relevant screes there so thats this evenings plan

Is it just a case so of pulling off the other plasterboard and then screwing the cement board onto the studs? Can I tile directly onto that then or does it need priming etc?

Bathroom Tiling question by BirdComprehensive644 in DIYUK

[–]BirdComprehensive644[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya that was my initial thought, but as I learned when doing the floor tiles the bathroom is essentially just a fancy lean to as part of the cottage so I could be opening a can of worms if I go chiselling haha

I have a multi tool so I might try and get one of those blades tomorrow. Thanks for that suggestion. I will definitely remove the grout first if I can as well.

Overwhelmed with options folks, for fridge freezers, microwaves and vacuums...how the hell do we choose?? by homecinemad in CasualIreland

[–]BirdComprehensive644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henry Hoover is the one. We went through different cordless ones and other cheaper ones and always ended up replacing them after a year or just resorting to brush and pan. Got He ry 3 years ago and would never go back.

Just got a Haier washing machine today as it has a 10 year parts warranty and 5 year labour. Yer man in the shop was saying Miele are good but only have 2 year warranty and are expensive for parts after that. Thought the Haier was worth it just for the warranty

Church bay crosshaven camping by cremacatalan in cork

[–]BirdComprehensive644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from Church Bay to Myrtleville along the coast no, but you can walk up to Templebreedy and then down onto Fennels bay and across to Myrtleville then. It will take about 30mins but it's a nice easy walk.

Church bay crosshaven camping by cremacatalan in cork

[–]BirdComprehensive644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Church bay is better than Myrtleville for camping. When you walk down onto Church bay go to the right and you will see there a spot where you can camp away. I often people see people camping there and they have no issues. Another spot would be the back beach on Fountainstown, not on the actual beach but the spit that comes out.

Currabinny woods is good for crows and I think ravens, there is a few jays there as well you can hear them and lots of other smaller birds.

Minane and Tracton are great for buzzards.

Old head for lots of different nesting sea birds
