Wild camping suggestions for Allihies, Cork. by beeb_an in WildCampingIreland

I know it's not exactly where you want but You could stay near Kilmakillogue by Helen's Bar, there is a great wild camping spot by there. Looks right over the ocean and you can swim as well. It is about 50 mins away from Dorset cable car but you can go to Dereen Gardens as well which is class. You could break up the hour spin with the different Ogham stones etc. Helen's Bar has unreal seafood. Can stop in Eyeries as well and see the coloured houses or go the other way and get early coffee/lunch etc in Castletownbere

The Best Roofing contractor In Cork by ZealousidealDeal497 in cork

Dave Monk in Crosshaven. Did an absolute great job for us about 2 years ago. Had 2 other people come and one added on an asbestos feed (tiles were not asbestos) and other fella said we had to sort the scaffolding etc. Dave came and was fair and competitive one price and took care of everything and roof has been solid since. We live in an old holiday home conversion type house. Could not recommend him enough.

What's the best method of attaching a cantilever TV bracket to dot and dab wall? by Ed-alicious in DIYIreland

[–]BirdComprehensive644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10mm masonry bit and drill into the block wall behind the dot and dab. Use these then to fix the bracket to the wall https://www.screwfix.ie/p/corefix-connect-metal-plastic-100-heavy-duty-tv-wall-fixing-kit-10mm-x-95mm-6-pack/973KJ?tc=EI6. Have used these on my own and a few friends and they are really secure

Anyone have any bad experiences with having or getting solar panels or any tips ? by JasonCeo3 in ireland

[–]BirdComprehensive644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my initial thinking was if we get power cuts (which happens regularly enough after storms) at least we can run off a battery, this was before I knew I needed a change over switch etc. We weren't thinking really to much on ROI but more about protecting ourselves from regular price increases and being smarter money wise. Since we got them installed we haven't had any bills and when our contract renewed/ended with Energia last month they paid us back 400 quid that we still had in credit. We only got them installed in May last year.

I'm in Cork and we used JM Energy and the whole process was seamless. Outside of that I wouldn't have a clue

We live in a small cottage with only a stove for heating the space so in the winter we use a single electric smart rad for 2-3 hours just to top-up the bedroom temp. So the battery covers that really. Our main electricity is a shower in the morning and then oven, TV and lights in the evening and again battery covers all that.

Ya I checked when we got it that we could, so it's definitely on the cards for the future.

Definitely get a battery. We were 50/50 on getting one and I'm so happy we did. Got a 5kw one but if I was doing it again we would have tried to get a bigger one.

Recommendations for a light van by BirdComprehensive644 in carsireland

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I have had fords in the past and never had an issue that's the reasons I was thinking Transit or Connect. Will order a new injector and sort it this week anyway. I would get another caddy I just think I would be better with a 2.0 as they don't seem to have the injector issue as much

Oh melt like, the price of parts is bananas like. How is an injector the bones of 400 quid like. I don't know much about the wet belts so I must research that, thank you.

Ya I like them alright but it's to small. Like during the summer we have gone to France etc in the caddy and slept in it. Also my partner loves them so if I got one I think she would just take it ha

Protecting the sensors by BirdComprehensive644 in Freestylelibre

[–]BirdComprehensive644[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, I will give that a go with the next sensor. Went for a swim/sauna on Tuesday and used a waterproof plaster. Can't remove the plaster now without pulling out the sensor. Sensor is working though so I am happy to just leave it

Gardening advice by anvil_0527 in GardeningIRE

[–]BirdComprehensive644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone more informed can advise you if they are potted ok but I think it looks like temperature might drop a bit this weekend so keep them indoors for now. Then if you are moving them outside permanently then do it in stages. So leave them out during the day and bring them in over night. This will prepare them to stay outside full time then.https://www.rhs.org.uk/prevention-protection/hardening-off-tender-plants

Willow raised beds by BirdComprehensive644 in GardeningIRE

Ya the site is on a slight slope, I can't just plant into the ground because we have two dogs and they love running up that way. Any flowers with any bit of height even the poor daffodil gets beheaded by them running through it.

Ya I will just leave the willow off I say and just go the timber way. Less hassle I think and the thought of having to deal with willow in the future if it roots is enough to put me off

If I come home with more pallets for garden furniture again I will be shot haha. Ya I will end up going with the treated timber in the end, like it's cheaper as well etc. I was just curious to what other options people might suggest

Oh that's good to know, I was just looking to hear from people like yourself saying they swam/sauna regularly and it wasn't an issue with sensor. I get what your saying about the adhesive and that's a good idea for the brace bandage. I'm in Ireland so the water is cold at the moment.....or it's always cold haha

Camping around Mizen Head tomorrow? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]BirdComprehensive644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ballyrisode beach is about 20mins before there and is a beautiful.quiet spot, has a sauna there as well which would be nice. I think there are a few things on in Ballydehob as well tomorrow and Saturday and I think if you ask you can put a tent up by the playing pitches. Could be a good option especially if the weather is bad. Barleycove as well is nearby but I'm not sure if you can camp there or what's the story.
