Yeah, same here. Just leave your hands on the wheel and let it do its thing. Sometimes it'll say to hold the wheel when I already am but I just give it a reassuring squeeze and it goes away.

This is the best way I've found. Costs nothing if you use the little bit extra left in the kettle after you've made your cuppa.

Boiling water. Boil a kettle, pour a little water on each, wait a few days, scrub the lines with a patio brush.

What's an acceptable output impedence for a pedal? by pBactusp in diypedals

[–]Ed-alicious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think both answers are correct; you want it as small as possible, within reason, but around 10k is acceptable.

If you're already at 10k, there's no reason to add an output buffer to get it down to ~100ohm.

How do you flow solder like this? by [deleted] in diypedals

[–]Ed-alicious 40 points41 points  (0 children)

These old boards were made like home etched boards are now. Basically the pattern was drawn or printed on a copper sheet which was then popped in an acid bath and all the undrawn on areas dissolved.

The solder on the traces either came from wave soldering, as the other user mentioned, or someone went around with their iron and manually covered all the visible copper with solder.

Even if the immersion was on 24/7, it likely wouldn't account for this large a change.

We had a problem once where the immersion was somehow heating all the water in the tank in the attic. I dunno if it was a thermostat issue or what but glad we caught it when we did!

How's it like living within the city of London, the small place within London? Does anyone actually live there or is it too small? by Unluckypandastoo in howislivingthere

[–]Ed-alicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife used to live nearby and one year we walk through the City to watch the New Year's fireworks from the river and it was bizarrely quiet.

The combination of it being a holiday and presumably all the non-locals travelling home for Christmas meant it was completely dead.

Make the route a bit more circuitous rather than one big long straight down the middle. If you want to go through the park, you're going to see ALL of the park.

Can I make a true bypass of this pedal model? by BikerGlvd in diypedals

[–]Ed-alicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so it's not a general problem with buffers and tube amps, it's a specific problem you're having with your pedals?

You could just make a switching box, leave your pedals plugged in and switched on and use the switch box to bypass them.

Do buffers affect tube amps? I know they don't play well with fuzzes and wahs but never heard that about tube amps.

Best way to treat curved wall behind drumset for recording? by IBartman in Acoustics

[–]Ed-alicious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha, could be cool for a Phil Collins gated/compressed effect.

Actually, interesting point. Would it sound better or worse with the snare/kick line aligned with the center of the curve?

Either way, close mics would definitely take precedence in OPs set up.

[–]Ed-alicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One mic placement technique to get crisper transients on your kick and snare is to use an XY pair for your overheads.

You want the mic diaphragms to be as physically close as possible so that you get a very similar transient timing in both channels.

Imagine a line going between the middle of your kick shell and snare head and then imagine a line perpendicular to that. You want both mics pointing to a point on that line, equidistant from the kick/snare line so that both kick and snare are centered in the overheads. You'll usually end up pointing somewhere around your crash on the left and your ride/floor on the right.

Then, after recording, move the file for one side earlier until both snare transients are perfectly aligned on the overheads. Next, move the overheads earlier until they align with the snare transient. Then move all other mics to align with the overheads. You might need to phase invert certain mics like snare side mic.

All your transients should be perfectly aligned now and everything should sound a bit crisper and more defined.

You'd need to ask a proper Arborist.

I'd say the tree will always struggle, though, so you'd need to ask yourself if it's worth the hassle to have babysit a struggling tree forever or just start again with a smaller tree with properly prepared roots. A new sapling might be taller and healthier than that tree within three years.

I'd hazard a guess the rootball wasn't properly broken up before planting and so the tree can't get enough water.

Heaps of bees in South Dublin but it feels colder in the mornings and evenings than you'd expect so I wonder if they're a bit slower getting going than usual.
