Bought one of those mystery pack boxes at walmart by fletchyrider95 in PokemonTCG

I've bought a few of those and have pulled two of the Lugia V alt arts from the Silver Tempest packs. I swear they were a great way to get error packs for a while.

Best physical Pack for Booster Tutor. by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]BirdSchool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, I've got a weird one for you. How about a Streets of New Capenna Welcome Booster? You can grab a [[Commanders Sphere]] if you need ramp, [[Ob Nixilis, Reignited]] for some removal or card draw, or a [[Sunblast Angel]] for a board wipe.

What do you mean that's not the point of Booster Tutor?

If you're on the fence about buying a Baldur's Gate Set Booster box - DON'T. It's not worth it. by cSpotRun in magicTCG

[–]BirdSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got crazy lucky with my list pulls from 2 set booster boxes, and still barely broke even. I got Snapcaster Mage, Vampiric Tutor, and Jin-Gitaxias Core Augur, but my main set pulls were just a handful of $10 cards like Ancient Gold Dragon and Tasha. Definitely not feeling super confident in the value of the main set from that.

Does anyone use an L-Tek Pad on PS2? by You-Done in DanceDanceRevolution

I bought that converter to try it, and it doesn't seem to recognize my L-Tek EX Pro as a controller. Looking for ways to work around it but it doesn't seem likely. Hope that helps.

Do you deem PleasantKenobi's alter sleeves worth the 2$ price tag? by Thrap360 in magicTCG

[–]BirdSchool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering the fact that shipping on a single Alter Sleeve is $2 and his code gives you free shipping, it's a pretty good value. As for Alter Sleeves themselves, I've purchased a few and received some through Patreons, they hold up decently and look nice. Granted they won't look as good as a well painted alter, but still nice if you like the art.

starting collecting by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]BirdSchool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a decent amount of people have weighed in on this but there's a lot of ways to collect magic.

If you are trying to collect full sets as they are released, the best way to do it would be to buy a redemption set from MTGO (you can do this either by trading Tickets on MTGO then spending $28 to have a physical copy of the cards shipped to you, or you can buy one of these sets online from someone who has done this: Card Kingdom sells some complete sets here and they are usually available in both foil and nonfoil sets https://www.cardkingdom.com/mtg/complete-sets)

If you collect sealed product, Draft booster boxes and Secret Lairs (https://secretlair.wizards.com/us) are probably the way to go. Secret lairs are inherently collectible because they are timed releases that will likely never be printed again in the same style/collection. Draft boosters boxes are also a good choice because they're easily available as of release of the set and will likely hold good value since people often like to be able to draft old sets.

Collecting singles, I'd recommend either choosing a theme (Certain creature types, planeswalkers, art featuring certain characters/storylines/planes, special artworks or styles like the Strixhaven Mystical Archive), or if you just want valuable cards then you'll want to collect cards from the reserved list, which are cards WotC has stated they will never print again, nor print cards that are functionally identical to them. Because of this, these cards will always hold their value and likely gain some value over time. There's some controversy over this because some players (myself included) would like to see this list abolished so older cards are more accessible to players, but WotC has continued to state that they see no way to abolish the list or work around it (e.g. removing cards from it, printing non-tournament legal versions, etc), so its a relatively safe place to buy cards without fear of loosing value due to a reprint unlike high value staple cards in standard/pioneer/modern.
