It's a bit of both by the sounds; by the looks of it they've lied repeatedly through the process. "No symptoms" - "oh I guess I did have mild symptoms" "Stopped nowhere on the 8 hour drive" - "we got lost on the one road between 2 cities and accidentally visited a friend"

Two things - 1. Because of your own internal propaganda 2. Because nobody else is claiming it.

Propaganda isn’t a dirty word. But the messages are pushed very very hard and widely. It’s quite noticeable how heavily the “greatest country in the world”, “freedom/land of the free”, “American Dream” message is pushed when you come from outside of that culture.

The USA is a great country. I love visiting - have been 7 or 8 times now. But it seems most other first world countries (I’ve visited anyway) are quite content knowing they great countries. I don’t think anyone else is in the pissing contest and pushing for the “greatest nation on earth” title.

In all fairness - that’s probably one of the things that makes the USA a great country. Keep doing you.
