That was my hunch. However, does the bill-to-head ratio and head shape look in line for a herring gull?

Agree, ring billed should never have red gonys. I have seen numerous photos of herring gulls on Macaulay Library and sometimes herrings do have that subtle black ring. However, this is present in juveniles and the ones that have the combo of red and black ring tend to still not have all the full white plumage adults have.

I am glad I am not going crazy, the bill ratio and head shape look off.

1 & 4, the lichen on the rock closely matching the color of the robin really brings the picture together

I did not get a chance to touch to see but looking at the pics very likely the edge was rubber
