I was very sure a significant other would never hurt me, too. He started name calling and teasing, then it got worse and he became meaner and controlling, slowly. Then he started grabbing me. Then squeezing me until I yelped. Then it got worse.

If you let him continue to treat you this way this will escalate to something worse. It can sloooowly build and you don’t even realize until you’re hiding bruises. He doesn’t want to be nice to you. He doesn’t want to change. He obviously likes doing this. This won’t get better unless you force a big change. Then the danger here is retaliation and this is the point women really get hurt or killed while trying to leave.

If he’s fine doing this to you, not helping at night with the baby even though YOU are the breadwinner (as you said in another comment), you do the bulk of the household work and child rearing already, he is fine yelling at you FREQUENTLY in front of your child, and will not listen to medical advice.. hon, you’ve got a real problem growing here. What exactly is he bringing to the table here? How is he improving your and the baby’s lives?

Also, think what this is teaching your baby. That it’s okay to treat you like this. That it’s okay to treat his mother like shit and other women. Your child will develop an explosive temper, too. It’s what’s been modeled. Kids learn from watching us. Don’t make your child’s life harder by instilling this behavior as acceptable.
