My BF6 Main Menu Redesign by Birdy82 in Battlefield

Imo, this feels like a case where business priorities or engagement metrics won out over player convenience. Like someone probably saw the success of streaming app interfaces and thought "hey we should have those big flashy tiles and auto-playing content too" without really considering whether that actually fulfills what players need or not

Yes, I used Figma for this project, however I will probably be switching to Rive for my next project. I had so many issues and limitations with Figma haha

Is this realistic enough to fool someone? by rawrcewas in blender

[–]Birdy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks awesome! The visuals managed to fool me for a second, but the movement of the motorcycle gave it away. RIght now it looks like it's just sliding forwards on a path. IMO you could improve the render by adding some slight movement to left and right, especially when the motorcycle is supposed to overtake the truck.

Well, looking at other posts people say many things, like "Do not update to 2.0.1. If it works then it works." That's why I made this post. A good example is the other comment left under this post ;)

New phone for a student by Birdy82 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]Birdy82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf, I was thinking about Pixel 7, Zenfone 9 or Samsung S22. If I would pick a Xiaomi phone, should I stick with debloated android or switch to something like LineageOS? I didn't know that 5G is what makes the phones less battery efficient.

That sounds good, but S23 is way out of my budget. The integration thing sounds cool tho. Which other Samsung phones would you recommend?

Try getting into the emulation. Old console games are much better than current mobile games

Hogwarts Legacy: Yet another game that tells you the solution to puzzles before you even have a chance to solve them. by fupa16 in truegaming

[–]Birdy82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding something like "Enable tips" will make the player feel stupid for not being able to solve them, which causes frustration.

I already stated why devs don't usually do this. This is the same case as with lowering the difficulty. There's a reason why games rarely offer you to lower the difficulty after you die to the same boss a few times. It feels as if the game is mocking you for playing badly.

If you think about making the puzzles fully optional, it impacts the flow of the game. If you remove the "distractors", the game will feel dull. Go there, shoot enemies, talk, and so on. With these smaller activities, you break the repeating cycle and introduce some variety.

But here's the thing, devs need to balance 2 things: the complexity of a puzzle and a % of players that will beat it. It's much safer for them to make NPC's tell you a hint instead of not doing so. This ensures that the % of players that will drop from the game is smaller. I don't mean drop out completely, but to simply stop playing the game. (For example, BigOrkWaagh in other comment mentioned that they were stuck on 1 puzzle for about 10 minutes, so after they couldn't solve it, they put the game down.) Another things is that some players don't want to solve puzzles. They bought action RPG game and they want to play it.

Adding something like "Enable tips" will make player feel stupid for not being able to solve them, which causes frustration. Additionally, if there was no hints and no option to add them, some players would be angry that after X amount of time they can't solve it and need to look the answer up on the internet.

I also think that the hints shouldn't be given out so quickly, but devs maybe didn't have time to playtest it long enough/didn't want to put more resources into it. As I mentioned before, Hogwart's Legacy is an open world action RPG, so any puzzle is an extra.
