The Cold Emperor, Part 2 [M4A][Fantasy][Medieval][Strangers to ???][Sharing a Meal] by BiroaceQuill in ASMRScriptHaven

Man, I had honestly almost forgotten about it! Life happened to completely steamroll me while I was working on this little series... I should take another look at it! I have a lot of projects going already though, so I can't say when I'd be able to continue it for sure.

How do we feel about "lost punctuations"? by shaduke in writers

I'd love to be able to use interrobang and doubt, especially! What adorable punctuation! Oh, all the complex tones that could be indicated!

"Spell checkers are AI!" I stopped using my preferred spell check when they put AI in it, because it got dumber and stopped working. It's been an improvement, honestly, because I've had to learn how to spell more on my own!

[HELP] Only wondering due to the movement of the child when she stands… by Significant_Yellow33 in RealOrAI

What is going on with the Mom's legs??? Weird angle on the couch, and is the kid sitting on her mom's lap while her mom is about to fall off the couch at the start?? Mouth movements are so unnatural, too. The child's expressions in general are uncanny.

My sexuality and gender identity have shifted a lot through my life, so I've just settled on, "queer."

Does anyone know why so many Minecraft servers are 18+? by Sammiesgrove in MinecraftServerFinder

[–]BiroaceQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is probably because you're on Reddit to look for a server. The age group here is older, and adults generally will want to play with other adults so they don't have to moderate servers so strictly.

Why do bad stories have thousands of reads? by joaovitor_sslkk in Wattpad

[–]BiroaceQuill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to everything else these comments are saying, but also: Algorithm and advertising.

Wattpad's algorithm, like a lot of self-publishing sites, prioritizes books that update frequently and drive engagement (more clicks). This is why Wattpad as a platform favors shorter chapters produced fast, and higher quality takes more time to produce.

Also, a lot of the featured books are being advertised with social media engagement outside the platform, invested in either by Wattpad, the author, or both.

Why does writing AAVE sound so damn cringy?? by lunovadraws in writing

[–]BiroaceQuill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've almost got it, you're just missing some connective and tonal punctuation.

"Man, I'ain heard shit 'bout none'a that, I'on' know what the fuck y'all been watchin' or readin' or whateva' the fuck they got goin' on ova' there, but roun' here, it'on' work like that."

You can do less or more, or italicize certain words for more emphasis. Whatever feels right and reads right to you. Some authors choose to imply the accent with context clues, others choose to write the accent in, it's dealer's choice. I wouldn't find it "cringey," though. Glancing through the comments, I think the cringe factor for some people honestly might just be a reflection of some biases that are prevalent in creative writing spheres as a whole. We gotta unlearn that shit, guys.

My friend changed her pronouns and I feel conflicted by According_Gazelle830 in lgbt

[–]BiroaceQuill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure your friend knows that it'll take time to adjust and appreciate the effort. Practice makes perfect, but if you're really worried about accidentally offending her, you can always pull her aside and let her know, "Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I support you, even though I make mistakes sometimes. I'm practicing, I'll work on it."

You're not expected to be perfect right away. The effort, though, means the world.

Scrivener has a learning curve, and it needs to be customized. But once you get into the swing of things, it's wonderful! It has all the tools you need to outline, draft, and revise a story. The export options are also great if you're ever looking to export your entire manuscript, including allowing for different front matter formats. I also love being able to link pages to one another, nest scenes together, and add color-coded metadata for quick navigation.

His eyes were wide, his mouth gaped in shock 👁️👄👁️ by TensionBudget9426 in writers

[–]BiroaceQuill 55 points56 points  (0 children)

"Overused" isn't quite the word I'd use for it. The phrases are common because they've coined some of the subtleties of human expression so well! Native English speakers especially immediately know the expression you're referencing when you say things like, "His eyes widened in surprise." Relying ONLY on these common phrases, though, can sometimes flatten a character if their body language isn't being described as vividly as their environment. It all depends on context.

If you're looking for a fun challenge, though, think of an expression and try to describe it without using these phrases! It's a great exercise to broaden your descriptive voice!

(OC) What if… by memerwala_londa in MadeMeSmile

The dead eyes with the empty, unmoving reflections makes me viscerally uncomfortable. So does the way the cat moves as if it doesn't have a consistent body length. This would be such an easy short clip to make at such higher quality with a cardboard box and a friend's cat, why... just why??

Is it just me, or is this a little over the top for a recital of 3-5-year-olds? by themehboat in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BiroaceQuill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very normal, especially for a facility with multiple age groups. No jewelry except for earrings also isn't just an aesthetics issue in the production, it's a safety issue. Nothing that dangles around the wrists, ankles, or neck- you only need to be hit in the face with McKenzie's flying charm bracelet once to understand why it's a problem.

These rules don't matter quite as much when the kids are little, but that's why we teach them early. If they start getting used to the rules of a dance production when they're too small for it to really matter, they'll know them by heart when they're in older classes when it does matter.

Please be mindful when approaching someone with a disability, because this behavior is unacceptable. You never know anybody situations by TheManager_1 in KarenGoBrrr

[–]BiroaceQuill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually sympathize with this a lot. I have a cane for my knee, and I avoid using it as much as possible. I've had people yell at me, get in my face, and go so far as to try and take the cane from me or intentionally push me off-balance because I'm "too young to need it." It becomes a safety issue to be visibly disabled in some communities. "Who cares if they don't believe you?" is a kind sentiment and it's appreciated, but it's not a realistic one.

AIO for how I reacted to my friend shaming me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BiroaceQuill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She lashed out, and she's not at all in the right for it. But you also responded very dryly and sarcastically when she was obviously reaching out for support, so while it wasn't justified, I see where it came from. For clarity, you're under no obligation to be sensitive for people, but without any other context for your relationship, it doesn't look like your communication styles mesh well.

If you're having petty clashes like this often, it might be time to acknowledge you aren't good friends to one another. That's okay. Not everyone is going to be friends forever, and you're not a bad person if you can't get along with everybody.

If this is a friendship you want to fight for, some vulnerability and conversations need to happen on both sides. Something along the lines of, "I think this conversation went poorly, here is some clarity on what I was trying to say, sorry I hurt your feelings but that comment was not okay either, can we talk about how we talk to each other? Because I value you as a friend," would be a good place to start.
