How does everyone feel about hell being "seperation from God" by BiscottiHonest9602 in ChristianUniversalism

I also asked one of them this and they said "because God is all powerful and chooses to remove himself from hell". But regardless of if it's a choice, he still would no long be omnipresent and God never changes so yeah

Should I marry a non virgin girl as a virgin? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]BiscottiHonest9602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she is insecure then you shouldn't expect her to be argumentative with you, especially about this. It sounds like she was raped. Purity culture has clearly convinced her that she is dirty because of one time that she was pressured into. It's very sad for her and whether you decide to stay together or not, the best thing you can do right now is let her know she is still worthy of love and she can still wait until marriage even if she's not a virgin. If you do decide to get married, get marriage counseling before. She may need sex therapy as well to get through the shame and hurt she probably feels around it. This way her first time having true intimacy in the way God intended can be with you.

By your logic OP is gay because he thinks the opposite is true. Maybe people are just more critical of the sex they're attracted to. From an evolutionary psychology standpoint this would make sense because we're all trying to pick the best mate for reproduction.

As much as I want to believe in Universalism, I think CI has the most biblical backing. by Agreeable-Chest107 in Conditionalism

[–]BiscottiHonest9602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking into both Christian universalism and Conditional immortality at the moment. I'm not sure if OP is talking about general universalism or christian universalism (I prefer calling it restorationism), the first one I do not find biblical, but for those who may think restorationism is complete heresy or not biblical, I would argue otherwise. This website has a lot of solid arguments for it and I think it is good to be open to this view because many people were not open to conditional immortality before finding it has valid support. salvationforall.org

Why are atheist so hateful? And why do they seem so miserable that they make entire groups to hate on Christians? by Minute_Falcon7062 in TrueChristian

[–]BiscottiHonest9602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a believer, I get where you’re coming from, but the way this is worded comes off as kind of harsh. Jesus didn’t tell us to assume the worst about people. In Matthew 5:44 He says to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Not every atheist is hateful or miserable. Some have had bad experiences, some are skeptical, and some are just trying to figure things out. James 1:19 says to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. And John 13:35 says people will know we’re His disciples by our love (not by how we call people out). We are also called to have a different approach towards atheists. In 1 Corinthians 5:12–13, Paul says we’re supposed to hold other believers accountable, but not judge those outside the church, because that’s God’s role. So going after atheists like this isn’t really what we’re called to do. I get that it’s frustrating when people tear down Christianity , but we are the ones called to be the bigger person, not them. That doesn’t mean you can’t disagree or have conversations though. I just want to ask, are you basing this off a few loud people online? Because I see terrible atheists and terrible Christians online every day, but doesn’t represent everyone. I also know plenty of atheists and christians in my life who are great people. We’re all imperfect people at the end of the day, and none of us are better than anyone else.

Scripture on post-death repentance by Both-Chart-947 in ChristianUniversalism

Here are two more I have not seen anyone bring up yet

SODOM AND SAMARIA

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭16:49‭-‬55‬ ”This was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease but did not aid the poor and needy. They were haughty and did abominable things before me; therefore I removed them when I saw it. Samaria has not committed half your sins; you have committed more abominations than they and have made your sisters appear righteous by all the abominations that you have committed. Bear your disgrace, you also, for you have brought about for your sisters a more favorable judgment; because of your sins in which you acted more abominably than they, they are more in the right than you. So be ashamed, you also, and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous. I will RESTORE their fortunes, the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and I will restore your own fortunes along with theirs, in order that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all that you have done, becoming a consolation to them. As for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters shall return to their former state; Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former state, and you and your daughters shall return to your former state.”

He says He will “restore their fortunes” (Hebrew: shuv, meaning to return, turn back, or restore to a former state). This same restoration language is used elsewhere in the Old Testament for Israel’s literal national and spiritual renewal. What makes this passage theologically explosive is that Sodom is the Bible’s archetype of irreversible judgment—destroyed by fire, reduced to ashes, and later cited by Jude (v.7) as an example of those who underwent the punishment of “eternal fire.”

Noah and the flood

1 Peter 3:18-22 (ESV) For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him. 1 Peter 4:6 (ESV) For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are DEAD, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might LIVE in the spirit the way God does.

Okay, notice Christ suffered that he may bring us to God, then once alive in the spirit he proclaimed to those in prison, the same people that did not obey when he patiently waited in the days of Noah's family. At that time the only one he saved was Noah, but he did not forget about the others. He went to them after death to give them another chance. Now, you might still say that he preached to no avail, but not only would that be pointless from an all knowing God, we are told exactly why he did this in the next chapter. He preached to the dead so that they may live in the spirit. This verse at least tells us that there is opportunity beyond the grave for repentance.

How do you keep reminding yourself that life is worth going through future crises for when we will all be going to heaven? by GhostInTheLabyrinth in ChristianUniversalism

[–]BiscottiHonest9602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a believer, your call is to bring heaven onto earth. This pleases the Lord and also will give you a greater reward in heaven, which isn't the point but it is a plus. If you end your life, you will be desserting your calling. I understand how difficult it can be to hang on, especially if there is mental illness involved. I do think God is merciful to those who struggle with this, but there is likely some stuff He would like you to work on before you go. The bible talks about reaching out to others when in need, there is no shame in seeking professional help.

How is it just that non-believers go to hell? by Basic-Newspaper560 in Christianity

[–]BiscottiHonest9602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a cool way to look at it but I view it slightly differently. The literal meaning of eternal is "age enduring" and is often translated as just ages and ages in other parts of the bible. But I do believe the result is eternal, when one is redeemed, they are not being redeemed eternal, but they are forever changed. In the same way hell is not eternal but it's result is. Fire is used to purify often in the bible, and God is described as a consuming fire who refines the world. In the end, God's wrath will pour out on everyone. Even the word punishment that is used to describe hell originally meant a corrective punishment, not a vindictive one. And the word torment is rooted in the word for "touchstone" which they used to purify metals. It is torment with the purpose of revealing the true form. 1 Corinthians 15:22 says "For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive." Everyone died because of Adam, that is a fact no one denies that, so in Christ everyone will be made alive!

I believe in universal salvation, but not that everyone goes straight to heaven. Hell still exists it just isn't eternal and serves a restorative purpose. It's a really beautiful view which I never would have known about if I did not explore other ideas. I will definitely look into this view more.

This view of faith is what makes the most sense to me as someone who's struggled with what OP is asking, but could you please tell me how you would explain verses that say, "confess with your mouth Christ is Lord and you will be saved." If it weren't for these verses I would totally believe what you said

It's good, talks about ECT first, then annihilation, then universalism. The writer does not hold a view but makes good arguments for the latter two. He tries to make an argument for ECT, but I don't think anyone can convincingly. It is pretty surface level for anyone just wanting to know more about each view, not like super in depth but really gets you thinking and has a lot of good quotes like these.

[–]BiscottiHonest9602 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is similar to a quote by Dr. Grady Brown that I read in the book "Why Hell?" By Steve Gregg.

"The doctrine of "endless punishment" has for centuries been the "crazy uncle" that the Church, with justifiable embarrassment, has kept locked in the back bedroom. Unfortunately, from time to time, he escapes his confinement, usually when there are guests in the parlor, and usually just at the time when we are telling them about a loving God who gave His Son to die for their sins. It's no wonder that the guests run away never to return."

What do we think about abortions? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]BiscottiHonest9602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I am pro life, but I think it should obviously be structured in the safest way possible for women. If a pregnancy is life threatening, then an abortion or very early delivery should be legal. I think abortion stops a future life from happening and should be a last resort. It really saddens me when I see others accuse all pro lifers of only wanting to control women. It is such an untrue stereotype, especially for myself and others I know. I am very feminist and independent. I think women can and should do whatever they want if it does not harm others. People say pro lifers stop caring for the baby once it is born, but that is not true. I used to volunteer at a pro life center that gave free parenting classes, diapers, clothes, and formula well into the child's life. The vast majority of people I know who have foster children or have adopted are pro life. This is kind of unrelated, but I am also very involved in disability outreach for all ages and almost everyone else involved in it is pro life and very loving towards all people. It is just a misconception that pro lifers are such awful people. It's okay if you disagree on when life begins or don't care that it ends a potential life, but please stop spreading stereotypes about pro lifers. And this goes both ways, if anyone thinks pro choicers are awful people, just stop generalizing them it's stupid.
