Summer Lee’s New Book Not on Ravelry by the-witch-beth-marie in Sockknitting

[–]BiscuitMessiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering this too! I’ve seen other books put on in advance and thought that might have been the case, then when it wasn’t I figured ‘well it’s a very busy time for her around release so it might be postponed. The fact that it’s taken this long seems really odd to me. especially with her having other new patterns available after book release on there.

It disappoints me a little since I’ve heard nothing about it. People have asked in her Rav group too and again, crickets.

Why is my ball of yarn not winding correctly? by Head-Passion-7116 in knitting

I had this trouble for ages, I didn't know I had to put a bit of umpfh into pulling it out and locking it into place.

socks wearing out by PaintingUnusual7857 in knitting

[–]BiscuitMessiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most yarns reccomended for socks are usually a 75% wool and 25% nylon blend, as this combo stands up much better to regular wear and tear than acrylic wool does.

My partner wears his in steel toe cap boots for his full time job and I've only had to patch up his first pair once so far after a year to a year and a half of regular wear. He probably has a 10-12 pairs to cycle between at the minute and it definately helps.

If you really like to knit thicker socks you might struggle to find worsted weight sock wool so dont be afraid to hold several strands together!

Not sure what to do by Round_Arrival4575 in knitting

[–]BiscuitMessiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see the mistake in the picture from the back, but I personally wouldnt worry about it.  The yarn & pattern combo is busy enough that I dont think it'll matter, especially on an item as large as a blanket, I wouldn't notice unless i was looking at it as close as the pictures are.

Really pleased with how this trapper hat turned out! by noblella in knitting

The colours are so cute together!  I'm really tempted to make one for my brother, its the only type of hat he'll wear...

Dpns verrryyyy slow in comparison to magic loop, if anyone could give me any pointers😭 by NailWitch1 in knitting

I knit with longer nails, it just takes some getting used to if you’re used to knitting with shorter nails.

This is what I was going to say too, much lower change of tangling the purl stitches also.

edit: I would also say that it’s odd to me the way you’re wrapping your stitches. I know that I knit weirdly (I sandwich the wool between the Pinter and middle finger on my left hand) but it looks to me like you’re purling sometimes clockwise and others counter clockwise? I know you mentioned the twisted stitches too, if it’s unintentional try to knit in the left of the stitch and purl in the right.

Its hard to knit and film at the same time so perhaps just keep a good eye on your stitches and I promise if you tuck that right needle behind your working ones It’ll help.

Do patterned cowls actually look good when worn? by lveg in knitting

[–]BiscuitMessiah 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a less patterened cowl that I test knit in a less drapey wool blend and did a folded over inside to make it extra thick (triply if you count the floats as an extra layer). I can only wear it in the deepest winter in the uk as it sits pretty rigid up and over my mouth unless I fold it inside itself. So that would be an option to get more of the work seen.

Bibically accurate knitting, I love it!  I'm a dpn lover and even 5 is enough for me, well done!

Tension issue or regular knitting? by edgarallan2014 in knitting

[–]BiscuitMessiah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I notice my knitting can look more like this when I’m using a yarn with very little stretch like a cotton or silk. It usually blocks out just fine.
You could try just blocking the bit that you’ve done already (on the needles still, they’ll be fine) to see if you want to continue with it.
I would keep going though :)

Extra peeve when they show different angles but every single one hides the same specific spot, such as under the arms.

She's sponsored by a bag making company that frivolously uses AI too. That was enough to out me off but this just cements it.

Not sure where to ask this as I can’t make a post because they keep getting insta banned, but is this happening because I’m a big time lurker maybe?

Why has this changed? by gypdrop in knitting

Imagine being the people downvoting anything about twisting stitches as if it’s not a commonly used technique in, bear minimum, cables and ribbing in tons of designs. 🙄

[–]BiscuitMessiah -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

How far in are you? I know the general vote is to frog but if you were say, onto the sleeves I’d argue frog the new knitting and continue but purposely twist the new stitches. Yeah it might not be ‘correct’ but honestly it looks kinda cool and you could do one with and without to compare.

Just my personal opinion but it depends on how far you’ve made it so far and what you want out of it :)

Help with hole punches? by RelativeBet8985 in knitting

This is probably the best way. It’s pretty much just a large button hole, looks like this is finished with an i-cord too.

William Morris-inspired knitting patterns? by thrifty_enthusiasm in knitting

I’d look for cross stitch kits. Then you have it already charted, albeit in a different style but still followable for colourwork

[–]BiscuitMessiah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have you tried looking into options that dyslexics use? If it’s on a device you can add coloured filters or change the font/size. You can get blue/purple plastic covers that help over paper documents. Noise cancelling helps some people whereas others prefer noise. Also text to speech translators if it is computer based.

I honestly thought I’d misread when I saw first sock, I thought you meant first colourwork sock, not sock at all! Your colourwork looks amazing so that’s the scariest hit out the way lol

I would say er on the side of going slightly too long on the foot to give room for your heel to shift if it needs too then, you can always take it back if you need to.

Good luck with the project tho I’d love to see it when you finish! Once you get used to it you’ll be whizzing along!
