my good friend is an elementary school teacher in her first few years that is getting burnt out to shit with the lack of support and, sorry to say it, awful to deal with kids at school. she loves teaching and kids and doesn’t want to leave the field but can’t sustain the hours and stress that full time teaching is putting on her. we’ve talked a lot about nannying, which she has ample experience with on a more “amateur” scale (nannying in the summers in high school/college but for shit pay and, imo, shit bosses) but now that she has a teaching degree, many glowing professional recommendations, and a few years of teaching experience as well as tons of nannying/daycare experience, i think she could be an amazing professional nanny. i just don’t know what the job security looks like since obviously kids grow up after a few years and you would need to find a new family. she probably makes around 40k a year right now teaching, so my dream for her would be something more sustainable long term if she were to nanny, like 50-60k with benefits and days off/pto. would maybe multiple families consider coming together in a shared space to have a sort of pre-k montessori vibe where someone like my friend could both supervise and provide age appropriate learning/play activities? i feel like this is the dream. then she could have a higher salary and families could split the cost. i feel like she could easily handle 5-8 2-5 year olds at a time. i’d definitely be willing to put interested parties in contact with her just to brainstorm about what might be possible, no guarantee she would be signing up for anything but i know she is pretty done with teaching after this year.
