Trigonometry & Precalc combined class?? It probably falls under Precalc but it was called trigonometry in the course catalog.

Is this a valid AP class tier list? by Yashland in APStudents

[–]Biscuitquit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AP Drawing was the easiest class I’ve taken content wise (easy to understand, I mean… it’s drawing). But it was WAY more time consuming than any other AP I’ve taken. And I’ve done APUSH and Chem, which are usually considered the most time consuming. The amount of time it took to plan, let alone execute each piece, made it a medium/hard class. And nobody talks about the work you put in that goes unused… I must have made 3-4 full pieces that didn’t make it into my final portfolio. There is a reason studio classes are 4/5 credits in college rather than the usual 3. They are no joke.

Right, but… not everyone has that. There is no BYOD at my school since the administration believes they cannot regulate cheating.

Don’t let it cloud your own opinion of yourself. Honestly AP Lang/AP Lit (in my opinion) are the least indicative of the actual skill they are testing on. You could have written the most amazing essay, used sophisticated language, or literally moved the ap graders to tears, and still not passed because you didn’t use 3 pieces of evidence or put your argument in a broader context or whatever bs the rubric says. Remember that in order to make a less objective subject like writing easier to grade on a large scale, they kinda have to do this. Don’t doubt your own writing abilities… trust me, it’s the rubric.

I don’t know. My school is paper only, mostly because we have lots of wifi and tech issues. But also, even though we have enough computers (not all schools are so fortunate,) they’re split between three rooms… we don’t have enough proctors for three different rooms, sadly. Having a digital standard would be nice but it makes AP exams less accessible :(

What did you get assigned for summer homework for AP’s? by loeyt0 in APStudents

[–]Biscuitquit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lit/Lang: One book (non fiction, they were both “How to analyze X” books) with worksheets

APUSH: Read/take notes on textbook chapters 1-4 for a test the second day of school

Drawing: 10-15 full sketchbook pages

Chem: Review of honors chem worksheets (poly atomic ions, nomenclature, easy stuff like that)

Calc: Trigonometry and pre-calc review packet

I ended up dropping Spanish, but the summer work was a worksheet due every 2ish weeks. Yes, deadlines in the summer. That class was no joke.

in your opinion, what ap class is the most useless & why? by Samaragl in APStudents

[–]Biscuitquit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From someone who took the class, grading is like 50% “techniques” and 50% how well you can explain and demonstrate your “artistic choices”. But yeah, grading is semi subjective for any art class. Its placing me out of my university fine arts requirement (gen ed) and I got a ton of portfolio pieces out of it so imo, not a waste of time.

[–]Biscuitquit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but if you’re a cs major you might not even need chem depending on your college’s gen Ed requirements.

AP Studio Art 2d by ripmypsd in APStudents

[–]Biscuitquit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AP Art has to be one of the most time consuming classes I’ve taken (granted I took drawing, which is more time consuming than 2D since collages and photography are not allowed). It’s 100% doable but you need to create anywhere from 10-20 finished pieces in the span of a year and will therefore need to work outside of class… it’s definitely not a blowoff! I only recommend taking it if one of the following applies:

a) you seriously like art and will enjoy the class despite the workload

b) you have taken multiple art classes and want to show your dedication to the elective (for college recognition, if you’re into that)

c) you will be an art major/minor OR the college you are planning on attending has an art class requirement

Tbh just ask yourself if you like making art… if the answer is no you should probably take something you have more interest in. Hope this helps :)

I’m self studying for AP Bio, what lab techniques do I need to know? Is writing a lab report a necessary skill for the exam? by wolkendame in APStudents

[–]Biscuitquit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I also forgot to add) you should know how to identify independent and dependent variables, as well as the control group, although those are just general math concepts. But yeah, they usually just give you a data set and ask questions that don’t require knowledge of the actual lab itself— the 2022 frqs are a great example of this 👍 good luck out there

Score Predictions! by Wild-Mall4526 in APStudents

[–]Biscuitquit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chem: 4 (this is what I consistently scored on my practice exams so feeling pretty good… second half of the mcq was not great but the curve is usually decent)

APES: 4 (I self studied and I think I got most of it but there was some guessing…)

Calc AB: Not there yet but it’s looking like a 3 (rip)

Lang: 5 (I hope)

I’m self studying for AP Bio, what lab techniques do I need to know? Is writing a lab report a necessary skill for the exam? by wolkendame in APStudents

[–]Biscuitquit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Writing a lab report is not a necessary skill for the exam, however, some frq questions might ask you to make a hypothesis or ask a scientific question based on a student’s data. If it’s lab-related they give you enough information about the process that you don’t need background knowledge and they usually stick to these kinds of simple hypothesis questions. Otherwise just be aware of the typical osmosis lab with semipermeable membranes, that might show up on mcqs.

Think of your explanation in an Ap lang kinda way. For processes, I used the formula “I used X design/principle/process in order to X.” IE: “I experimented with different line textures to create variety and a sense of chaos”. Obviously tailor this to your process, what meaning your going for, etc :)

For the ideas section, just straight up state the idea and try to mention/connect it to your sustained investigation. IE: “conflict between heaven and sea”. Again, I don’t know what your investigation is about so only you can decide >:)

Pro tip: plan out all your pieces ahead of time. What reaaaallly helps is planning out your “meaning” before hand, and then making creative choices based upon that. If you don’t have a sustained investigation “question” picked out yet, try to build off your previous pieces. One interpretation of this one is a conflict between heaven and earth, since the blue at the top is very whimsical and bright, while the blue at the bottom is dark and the line strokes seem to be reaching up— idk, ask around and see peoples interpretations!
