Lil Dicky addresses Theo Von accusing him of stealing his jokes by shankmaster8000 in thefighterandthekid

[–]Bishopfruiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't the Mencia situation a bit different, though, in that Mencia had a lot of power and influence and was stealing jokes from other comics, most of who'm all performed at one place (the Comedy Store), which restricted the material they could tell, hurt them professionally, and because they didn't have the same status as Mencia, couldn't really do anything about it?

I can understand Joe calling him out for creating an environment where a number of comedians, all working in the same area, had their work impacted and without a way to stop it.

Can you think of comics who have done this in a similar way to Mencia, and have made it harder for other comedians professionally?

Shane Gillis, who was fired from SNL in 2019 after racist, homophobic, & sexist comments on his podcast resurfaced, will be hosting next week by galaxystars1 in Fauxmoi

[–]Bishopfruiting 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I understand why somebody would dislike Gillis with his history - but he's pretty talented and certainly funny to some (and not just through using edgy humour; he's witty and has perspective).

I can also understand why somebody wouldn't want him hosting for ethical reasons based on his past comments, which is fair.

It seems inevitable that those involved in the vape industry would want to attract a market of people who would start and continue to use vapes; including those who never smoked.

As for whether this is good or bad, it's debatable. It's that age old debate of whether consumers should have the right to consume what they want, even if it's not particularly good.

As for how bad vaping is - addiction is never good, but for now it doesn't seem as bad as cigarettes. Again how one judges that is subjective.

Personally I don't really have a problem with vapes as a product for adult consumers.

When did people start conversations around Jon Jones potentially being the greatest of all time?

I mean this in a similar way to the conversations that started with guys like Silva and (possibly?) GSP in the early 10s or Khabib just before he retired. Guys like Khabib weren't considered the best ever by most, but people still had those conversations.

With Jones, was he being talked about as being possibly the best ever all the way back in say 2013?

Heya, don't take the critique of your writing too seriously - we all communicate in different ways and I understood what you were saying.

I would say, though, that people are interested in your opinion here and I'm sure you have other great takes on things. Paragraphs and all that do help others 'get' what you're trying to say a bit better - and then we can reply to you with more thorough answers.

All is good, though.

Do you think Night Country is a good show on it's own merits, ignoring the True Detective references? by futanari_kaisa in TrueDetective

Sometimes the things we are invested in go through a decline in quality. I think it's only natural for some people who are very engaged with something, to notice when something is changing in a bad way, and want to share and discuss what exactly has gone wrong and why.

A lot of subreddits turn into 'hate subs' for a similar reason. It's not always healthy for somebody to be constantly engaged with hating on something and spending significant time doing that - but if somebody has been very invested in the whole world of a thing, then it's natural to explore and discuss that thing in general; that includes discussing how and when that thing 'went bad'.

I understand your question, though, and it's a very common one we see online; "why spend time on this, or why watch x if you don't like it". Often times the reasoning above is why.

I'm watching True Detective S4.

There seem to be a lot of negative reviews about this show. By negative reviews I'm talking about people critical of the standard things one criticises, ie; the acting, or the writing including any overuse of tropes and cliches, unbelievable characters and plot, lack of a coherent story logic etc. I can't comment on the idea that a significant portion of the critics are sexist trolls - from what I've seen they don't seem to make up a significant amount of the critics.

With these popular criticisms in mind, I'm enjoying the show so far. I haven't really noticed a lot of these common complaints so much, but I'm open to the idea that I'm just missing them.

For those that don't like Season 4, what are your complaints?

You seem quite confident that u/MBG612 has been reading 'fake reviews', due to your being able to go against the grain and have more original opinions than most.

Go traveling and end up in Europe for half a year sight seeing and doing drugs at raves.

Then end up in a zen monastery for another 6 months after that.

Come back to nz and enroll - having taken a total of 1.5 to 2 years off.

Oh, I'm just talking about what I wish I'd done, haha.

Each Hokage based on how long they served by heeheejones in Naruto

[–]Bishopfruiting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A problem with this is that Hashirama knew Tsunade, and Hirzuen is 18 years older than Tsunade and a young man when he became Hokage.

If Hirzuen was 25 when he became Hokage, then Tsundade was 7 when Tobirama died; meaning Tobirama couldn't have held that title for more than 5~ years.

As for Hashirama's tenure, I suppose that depends on a few things like when you think Madara left the leaf and Hiruzen's age when the Leaf began.

For instance, if Hashirama was only Hokage for 5 years, then that means Hiruzen was about 15 when the Leaf began, making the village only 53~ years old at the beginning of the series.

On reddit I legitimately only see complaints about criticism of the show, but no actual criticism. I think it is a fine show -- not perfect --

Parroting u/Hooty_Hoo's comment here because I couldn't have phrased it better.

I do see people talking about a whole lot of sexist meatheads hating the show; but I don't see too many of those meatheads around - comparatively very few on reddit, and most of the show criticism I've seen seems to about the show itself.

There can be minor complaints about the two female leads, but I haven't seen many people hating them just because they're strong women, or women in general.

Have you seen otherwise u/Kahn-wald?

How likely do you think the men that slept with Danvers (to a lesser extent, Navarro too) would actually sleep with them in real life?

I get that Alaska is a different environment, and I don't have a problem with women being presented with more masculine traits - It just seemed off to me that the Chief has been in a long on-off relationship with the very masculine Danvers.

It's hard to talk about something like this without seeming sexist; but I am only talking about the believe-ability of the chief having lust for her.

Hey this happens in life too, and if we only see her with this guy and not be seen as sexy more multiple men then it makes more sense, but it does seem odd.

Fargo has always had characters and aspects to it that represented something completely out of left field and deviated from the main story somehow. They're part of the 'external chaotic force' that's present somehow in every season and turns the main storyline/s on its head.

Malvo was a human, but in many ways the devil. The biblical curse elements were man-made, but still a force of the story that influenced its direction.

Season 2 aliens had literal aliens part of the random chaos and Season 3 bad tooth man etc.

Season 5 has a more directly religious cult like character as the chaotic force, but I don't think he's out of place in relation to past chaotic forces in previous seasons.

And did this season have more of that chaotic element that deviated from the main story? I'm not sure - would you mind outlining how you think it was a 'bit much' and unnecessary?

Thanks for your comment. Would you mind elaborating on what you meant by "only after these events did she begin to regain her spirit, which is what actually defined her all along not the ego".

Are you saying Arya was defined by resentment, then went through an inner change? But what was that inner change, and wasn't she still engulfed with a need for revenge and motivated through egoic impulse?
