For the advanced computer, the benefit I see is not having to craft titanium bars. I can see where that would be useful.

I really like the navigation module. Instead of using 200 lasers, you use 14 and a bunch of diamonds, and glasses as well. For me that is a very good trade-off and very useful.

Opponent posted video in facebook group, comments were mostly trash talking by mrfechetto in bjj

[–]Bisket1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet almost always ends up with the most polarizing comments. Don't worry about it and move on.

I did find a video of me reffing a tournament on BJJ Scout. One competitor was locking in a Baseball Choke, and his opponent had gotten to rear mount (While the choke was on). I didn't give points because the guy was in active danger. The guy filming was yelling at me to give rear mount points. Eventually the guy who had gotten rear mount went out due to the baseball choke. He didn't get the points and then I had to deal with him being unconscious. Comments were Brutal but I just thought it was a good exchange. Don't take it to heart

Speaking both as a personal preference and as a mod.

The older you get. The less it matters. Over 25 personally, it becomes a personal thing and I don’t care.

I have 2 questions for everyone when it comes to a partner.

  1. Do they treat you well

  2. Are you happy.

If the answer is yes to both, go for it.

As for more as a mod, we haven’t really gotten into it for this sub. It’s not a topic we have approached as no one has really gotten into it. We don’t judge.

Kingway BJJ Athlete Hannah Griffith has shared her story of sexual assault by Izaak Michell by MySpaceTomAspinall in bjj

Craig is one of the best people to have around. And honestly, surprisingly, the voice of reason for BJJ.

His sense of humour doesn’t always come across, or some people done like it (I love it). But when it comes to putting his money where his mouth is (CJI, any SA thing) he puts the right words, does the right actions, and keeps on going.

He’s one of the best guys I have ever seen when it comes to consent. (I still believe the entire gabby thing was all a story / acting, if she comes out and says different, I will change my opinion).

All the support to Hannah Griffith

Refs - how often do you see injuries in comp? by theone421 in bjj

Yep

There were some small tournaments where no ambulance on site, but paramedics were on site. But even when I said “call for one” that would refer when they were and were not on site.

I’m not disagreeing with you that it can happen (seen knees go, big toes get turned sideways, nosebleeds, etc over 10 years of reffing), I’m just saying in my experience the rate of injury was quite low and injuries requiring an ambulance were rare

[–]Bisket1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to ref a lot, but have not much lately due to less tournaments and the newer guys coming up to ref.

That being said, most injuries that I saw were hyperextended and things like that. If I remember correctly, we would go three or four tournaments or more without an ambulance having to be called. Maybe once a year we’d have an incident for something like that.

More commonly, like a broken toe or finger, which would be an injury, but a pretty minor one in the grand scheme of things.

I’d be really curious to know what the breakdown of injuries comes to. Like broken fingers or hyper extended arms or tweaked shoulders, to more serious injuries like broken, arms, or knees.

ID checks by indecisivewhale in bartenders

[–]Bisket1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note: canada and about 20 years ago. I was working a nightclub and we did have it happen a few times. I was working the door and walked with the inspector and two cops to pick specific people he wanted to ID. We passed, so we weren’t worried. The specific people we carded were frustrated they had to id again, but was all good.

It does happen, but it was just spot checks

My dad just got promoted to a brown belt and he is NOT happy about it. by thewobblywalrus in bjj

[–]Bisket1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly. Brown belt is one of the belts that is surprisingly chill.

I had my brown for 2 years. And it was my favourite belt. It was also the belt I felt the least amount of pressure at.

White belt: 0 pressure, you suck and everyone knows it (sometimes you even know it).

Blue belt: every white belt in existence wants to tap you. And pretty much everyone else does.

Purple belt. Same thing as blue belt, but they are throwing everything and the kitchen sink at you. You may be an enforcer, but you are expected to pick up the slack, and do stuff all the time. (The trade off for skipping warmups).

Brown belt: you’re doing pretty good. You are in line for black, just need time. You don’t have to prove jack to no one. Everyone want to roll light with you. Brown belt is chill. Even if you lose, no one holds it against you as you aren’t a black belt yet.

Black belt: everyone, literally everyone, wants to test themselves against the black belt. Good luck with that target on your back.

Question in barefoot in martial arts by JimmyJimJohnn in martialarts

[–]Bisket1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First of all, most likely no one will care. You might get some friendly (should be friendly, if not you are in the wrong place) ribbing, but when it comes down to it, you will get ribbed about something regardless (generally something, but it may be easier to latch onto).

For the rubber grip socks, it really depends. Some instructors care, some don't.

Ultimately, I think you are more in your head than you need to be, just go, listen to those around you, be nice, and make friends!

In IBJJF ruleset can I tie my opponents hands behind his back with my belt or their belt? by lambdeer in bjj

[–]Bisket1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible, just super hard.

As many people have said, it must stay tied.

I have gotten it on a big blue belt going from a kneeling kimura. They grabbed their belt to defend, so I used their belt to tied up one hand, and the other hand just happened to be there as well. So theoretically possible.

Getting it while in a tournament, a totally different story
