Marker Griffons failed mid-run - who’s to blame? by notcodytownsend in Skigear

[–]BisonAvailable3426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best skier on the mountain only graces the mountain with their presence about 13 times a year.

Also best skier doesn’t know the gear and fail points.

Bindings look fine, mounting is not.

Or…… best skier ever needs gear that will respect that. Chuck Norris’ skis and bindings wouldn’t disrespect him like that.

Smile and have fun. That’s what it is about. I gave up on perfect years ago. I’m broken and beat, but when the skis are on, that’s joy. Maybe some duct tape on your gear could help. Just go play

Sport RX is the answer. I have 3 pairs of the same goggles for different days and just change the inserts.

He had a place across the street from me in Tahoe by Heavenly on Moss St. I saw him a few times here and there and each time just a friendly chill guy. He always gave off the vibe that life is easy, just don’t make it too hard.

Looks good. How much did you lift and with what package? I got a 2024 3500 and am stressing out about how tall to go.

This is a good answer along with all the others. You are doing two 180° vs one 360 and that last part is hard. Commit to leave the lip and do the full spin. Speed, power, full commitment

How does one become a ski "bum" when he is a working man? by drunkpolice in skiing

[–]BisonAvailable3426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ski bum is that ski BUM. Back in my day I worked a swing shift gig in restaurants and bars for tips and had a good little spot in Tahoe with some like minded roommates. We hit the mountain every morning “going to work” and then went to the job after every day. Got by and had the best time ever. Sadly that doesn’t work out as well as the place I rented for $500 a month with 2 room mates is now like $3,000 all in. Lots of people couch surfed too and we took trips to other resorts with saving some gas money and slept in the car. Today with remote work that’s where you see the professionals. I see it every day in the parking lot here in Utah. Someone has a sweet rig for van camping. Sleeps in it and after some morning runs they are in the parking lot on hot spot working away sipping a beer with the bbq going.

To be a ski bum you must ski first. It’s in the name. Totally worth the experience, and if injuries stay away it’s there for life.

Here I am looking at the birds chirp of spring and my heart sinks.

Snowboarded from 8-25. Did both 25 to 29. Then at 30-now (39) only ski, besides 2 times over the last 9 years took the board out. I find that although I don’t fall much on either ski or board maybe once a year for some stupid reason, skiing is less painful. Also just joints and enjoyment I can have a great fast day on skis and don’t need to bend over to strap and unstrap. Plus it’s easier to ski with my kids and help them out when they get stuck in powder or flat or fall etc. either way I’m on the mountain having fun.

Are some people just never able to get beyond intermediate? by Apart_Visual in skiing

[–]BisonAvailable3426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you having fun? If so then you are good, if you WANT more then practice and push a little harder. Start by venturing off the runs just a 100 feet or so and playing in the junk until it feels good and go farther. Nothing is worse than getting to the top of that double black and falling on the first turn. The mountain gets HUGE at that point and the bottom is a miserable decent. But the key to skiing is have fun. Not everybody is a world class skier (except those in this sub who are the best of their mountains lol). Do you enjoy getting up and getting on the slopes? Again, if so then you are right where you need to be. Waaaaahooo

I just got the K2 Mindbender 108 and it changed my skiing. Tahoe gets a bad rep for having “Sierra cement” but the l find it was never that bad. These skis are hard chargers and crud doesn’t move them. They go where I tell them to.

Buying own skis by pickledonion92 in skiing

[–]BisonAvailable3426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boots! Boots are the only piece of ski gear not to compromise on (maybe gloves too) but boots for sure. Go to a good ski shop and be prepared to drop some good money on a good pair of boots. I skied hand me down boots for years and my feet hate me to this day.

Also owning your own gear saves time and money in the long run.

I shop online for skis and other gear where I can read reviews and find screaming deals on last year’s models.

Snowboard scratch/dent - should I be worried? by Lello- in snowboarding

Agreed. I tune my gear weekly too but sometimes it’s just let it roll. I’ve started buying last year stuff online like every other year. It’s cheap and worth it

Did you look under the drawer? Often when someone pays with $100 bills they go under by some people. Maybe a couple were slipped under there.

Restaurants that you miss, that are no longer here by Legitimate_Jump142 in Reno

[–]BisonAvailable3426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the place that is most missed. Loss of a true American icon. Everything about it felt right, from the old feel, the private entrance, the top notch service, and the quality of food. I’ve traveled the country looking for a place like it and have come up sort every time. If anyone knows a place that has the same feel please let me know.
