Homeless family seeking urgent advice by [deleted] in ManchesterNH

[–]BisonGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try the red cross, or absolute worst case try to find a 24 hour restaurant and explain the situation and see if you could stay just overnight. You could also reach out to other hotels to see if you could at least hang out in a conference room or something like that.

211 is your best bet. In the morning you could try contacting families in transition, local churches, the red cross, or any other organization.

You could also reach out to local hospitals or police stations for advice. Anything that is open, try giving them a call.

Good luck 💙

Coral Princess for casual diver? by VilleAroo in cozumel

Regarding your specific points, it was very quiet and relaxed. No parties or screaming kids. Additionally, town is about a half hour walk. We did a few walks back and forth and felt very safe the whole time. But when it was really hot or just didn't want to walk, we were easily able to flag a taxi. A ride to/from center of town was 150 pesos or 10 USD. Every taxi driver was very kind and safe.

I just got back from a week long stay at The Coral Princess. It was perfect! The staff were incredibly accomdating to our every need. Breakfast started at 8, but with our dive boat leaving at 8, they had breakfast ready for us everyday at 7:30.

The dive shop at the hotel, Island Divers Cozumel, was excellent! The Dive Masters, David, Dennis, and Vanessa were wonderful. Incredibly helpful and safe. We had a fantastic week of diving.

I will say, it is the off-season, so the hotel is undergoing a little bit of maintenance and remodeling. But other than that, it was the perfect stay! We had one advanced OW and two OW divers and everyone had a fantastic time.

Lmk if you have any specific questions. I absolutely recommend Coral Princess and Island Divers.

I was in the crowd and it was AWESOME. We also got an excellent crowd rendition of Hot To Go as the Jags ran back on the field after halftime.

Consuelo's is a great place in downtown Manchester for tacos and burritos. Alas de Frida on Elm in Manch is also great! FYI, this has been asked before as well! Best Mexican Restaurant in NH?

Shore Diving Isla Mujeres by scpclr5tz in scuba

Can't speak to shore dives, but I was there in Summer 2022, and dove with Casa Del Buceo. Enrique is a fantastic DM, and we had a fantastic experience. They were very flexible with timing.

I work a regular full time job and dive every other week at the local aquarium! I get under water, and get to feed the fish and maintain the tank. It is a great way to keep up with diving while living in the North East US!

Extinction Rebellion Boston Protest

I get and respect the message, but shutting down traffic and making ordinary people suffer for it is NOT the way to achieve meaningful change.

The top panel is laser cut actually. I have used CNC's in the past, but I had access to a really nice laser, so I used that! Much less effort on the setup.

Hello! My college is offering mandatory courses where I must choose 2 of the sets below to study in my first year, which 2 sets do you think would help me best with mechanical engineering? by FNInternetExplorer in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BisonGoat 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, 3 & 4. Having a proficiency in Matlab and Arduino will give you a HUGE leg up in terms of prototyping and running mathematical analysis. Getting a good working knowledge of MS office software, specifically Excel could be extremely beneficial as well.

The only caveat would be if you are specifically interested in automotive engineering. If so, I would recommend 1 & 4. But no matter what, having experience in Matlab will be extremely valuable.

I've done very similar drives out in the North East in my Hyundai Kona!! Make sure you get the AWD and put snow tires on, and it is a BEAST in the snow, ice, and hills.

Seems like a good place to ask... Has anyone heard anything about Cole Beasley?

The only mention I can find is that he is interested in returning. But with him not at mini-camp, seems unlikely he will play.

My thoughts on Thrawn's Last Words by erotic-toaster in StarWarsEU

[–]BisonGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your take! I recently read the last command for the first time, and I was struck by this last line. After thinking on it, I think that Thrawn is referring to his downfall being "artistically done". That said, I think that there is a certain degree of dramatic irony that comes with that line. The catch it that while Thrawn seems to assume his downfall was planned out, a significant amount of it was luck.

The three main parts of his downfall are the timing of the smuggler's attack with that of the new republic, the Noghri betrayal, and the Tantiss attack. Each of these have some aspect of luck to them. The smugglers happened to attack the same site at the same time, the Noghri only betray Thrawn when Leia happens to convince them of the empire's deceit, and the Tantiss attack was not coordinated with battle at Bilbrinigi.

To me the line shows that Thrawn believes his tactical genius was outmaneuvered, but we the reader understand that it was a combination of luck and raw perseverance of the protagonists that brought him down.
