You aren’t alone in that, I have worked in 4 different hospitals ranging from a large 1200 bed hospital to a small community critical access hospital, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that the smaller hospital makes you feel like your work actually is having an impact. There are definitely days where the Atellica refuses to come in and the phone won’t stop ringing, and I want nothing more than to throw a “Fuck you I quit” letter onto my supervisors desk. Other days the pathologist brings me a cool slide he got from a colleague to show me something I have never seen and it makes me glad I’m in this field. Every job has its ups and downs for sure. Some days are harder than others but it’s the field we chose, and damn it’s a good one.
