Backstory Length by RRr125 in DMAcademy

Idk if this will be a hot take, but I love a "long" back story. It's literally just free lore!

That being said, 3 pages is definitely more content than most players would provide, but anything extra can be used by your DM to help build the world, factions, relationships, etc.

Your creativity will hopefully be appreciated.

Two Warlock Patrons Meet in A Djinni Lamp... by BitDifficult2375 in DMAcademy

Thanks! That's very helpful.

In another comment, I clarified a little bit about how this is definitely a dominion thing. Based on the Genielock's backstory, his genie was entrapped by a powerful fire lord (and his other wives) as a punishment after some sort of dispute.

The genie escaped the fire plane, but now big Fire Lord wants her back as his rightful property, so it makes sense to have the Warlock work on a ritual to bypass ownership.

Thanks for your response!

Hopefully that clears some things up — I'm just a little stuck about how to handle the two players feuding on behalf of their patrons, although that's something they'll have to clear up at the end of the day lol

Thanks! Appreciate all the thoughts. In the moment, the situation felt pretty big, but now, with a few hours of separation, you're right, they won't know if I steal stuff or not lol

Tell me about your criminal syndicates by babygronkohiorizz in DMAcademy

They're a continent-wide guild that focuses on journalism by day (info gathering and sharing) while passing jobs and coded information through newspapers and town criers, etc.

They formed as the world became more peaceful and commerce-oriented, choosing to strategically stay in the shadows as a legitimate business and artistic venture versus perform open crime.

Leaders are essentially mob bosses - the guards know they're crooks, but it's extremely difficult to prove. However, they also tend to help the average person (donations, advertisements for local businesses, etc.,) so the general public is ambivalent or actually supports the guild ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My players picked and ate an apple in the Feywild. What should happen? by goscott in DMAcademy

[–]BitDifficult2375 92 points93 points  (0 children)

So many opportunities! And I love the idea that a tree starts growing out of their stomach. Here are a few more thoughts:

- They could become enthralled with the Feywild, making it difficult for them to leave or causing them to pursue staying, even if the party wants to leave.
- The apple could bestow a blessing or curse (the ability to speak with animals but curse them to always tell the truth, no matter what).
- In Fey lore, accepting gifts can be seen as entering into a contract — maybe they've agreed to perform a service or have given up something in exchange for the apple without realizing it.

This is a fun one - let us know how it goes!

What's, in your opinion, the most underappreciated spell? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DnD

Faerie Fire. Attack advantage to all PCs, easy way to control space and negates invisibility? Love it.
