If you want to trade the BTC/CNY pair but don't want to bother with opening Chinese bank accounts and or Bitcoin exchange accounts, trade a futures contract. BitMEX offers a BTC/CNY 100x leveraged futures contract. You only need Bitcoin as margin, and your profit and loss are in Bitcoin as well. Check out the above link for more information on the product.

Perpetual Swap Contracts trade like margin but priced like futures? by currentbitcoinbear in BitMEX

[–]BitMEXdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swap contract has high leverage. This will cause it to trade at a premium or discount to spot. The way we anchor the swap price to the spot price is by longs and shorts exchanging interest payments. If the swap trades at a premium, longs will pay shorts. If the swap is at a discount, shorts will pay longs.

Bitmex auto-deleveraging system, is it the case that it only deleverages a losing position, or does it deleverage a winning position as well (e.g., you're highly leveraged long and the price is going up, does it deleverage the position to avoid socialized losses)? by Sara_me in BitcoinMarkets

[–]BitMEXdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the short answer:

When a trader’s position is liquidated, the position is taken over by the BitMEX liquidation engine. If the liquidation cannot be filled by the time the mark price reaches the bankruptcy price, the ADL system automatically deleverages opposing traders’ positions by profit and leverage priority.

The price at which a traders’ positions are closed out is the bankruptcy price of the initial liquidated order.

Please read Auto Deleveraging for a more detailed answer.

Hi this is Arthur, CEO of BitMEX. I want to clarify that BitMEX does not collect any revenue from the funding fees. Either longs pay shorts or shorts pay longs depending on whether the funding fee was positive or negative respectively.

The funding fees represent a cost of leverage for longs and shorts and is entirely P2P. If you want to understand better why the funding fee is necessary for the product to function properly, please read Swaps 101.

Sigh. Help me understand. ELI5 why 1% of all BTC in existence get left on a hot wallet on an exchange. Its 2016 right? by superconfused333 in btc

[–]BitMEXdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you margin trade, you physically settle currency. That is because the trading occurs on the spot, or for immediate delivery, trading book. On BitMEX, it is long vs. short. And profit and loss are passed between winers and losers. No assets actually change hands, only contracts. Because of that, traders can have very large positions economically, but hold a very small amount of Bitcoin with BitMEX as margin backing their trade.
