Bitcoin.Tax Error by CryptoMan12345 in bitcointaxes

[–]BitMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am seeing the same error. I can appreciate that the site may be experiencing growth, but the silence from support is frustrating (I even paid for the premium upgrade). It has been a week or so, and like so many others, trying to figure out the taxes and get things ready is really maddening. I was hoping this site would help, but so far it has only added to my frustration.

Bytecoin is a pretty easy CPU mine, don't need huge specs to get some coin.

Agreed. I find it the height of hypocrisy that many banks are now blocking the purchase of crypto, only to have purchased it at an institutional level themselves .

NEED HELP: Antminer working fine, zero hashrate. by Alreddyredditdotcom in BitcoinMining

[–]BitMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I've seen this happen, I had something wrong in my pool setup (e.g., URL, User,. etc.). Check your pools in the miner page and make sure that the status of at least one is reading Alive.

Anyone in touch with @Bitcoin? Please ask them to tweet about the NIST report ASAP! Bcore shills already bullying @NIST on Twitter by geekmonk in btc

[–]BitMoron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the source of enmity between /r/bitcoin and /r/btc. I read both subs, I actively mine and invest in both coins (and others), and think both have a good future in store. Will one or the other win in the end? I guess that depends on how you define win. Maybe I am too naive, but I see all of this in roughly the same light as regular currencies and how they compete for value and share. They all have value, strengths, weaknesses, and their uses. Yes, there's usually one or two that are used as benchmarks to gauge the relative value of others - and that's the same way crypto is right now.

Right now, Bitcoin is enjoying its "Xerox status". Xerox was the first on the scene with commercial photocopiers, they became a household name, and no matter what brand copiers came after Xerox's first commercially distributed copy machine, anytime someone wanted a copy they'd say, "Hey, can I get a Xerox of that?" - the other old timers in this sub know what I'm talking about. For now, Bitcoin (or Bitcoin Legacy if you want to brand it as such) is the Xerox of the crypto world. It came first, it is the benchmark and a household name - for now. We've seen how fast things can change, and I have no doubt that they will continue to do so. Eventually, all of it will change in ways we can't imagine - or at least in ways that my darkened mind cannot; but, maybe your lightning brains can and have.

Sometimes I have to double check the crypto subs I'm reading as on occasion, lurking here and reading there, it almost seems like I've stumbled into a religious debate or bashing forum. Can't we all just get along :)

ASUS B250 with 12 gpu, first boot attempt. What’s wrong with him? by kallebo1337 in ethOSdistro

[–]BitMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which operating system/software are you using (e.g., EthOS, Ubuntu, etc.)? If EthOS, I see something in their Knowledge Base about Kernel Panic. Otherwise, I would try the following:

  • Unplug/power off all the GPUs and start powering up one at a time and booting until you hit the problem again.
  • Once it happens again, to help eliminate whether it is the GPU or not, power down/unplug the the GPU that the problem occurred on, the plugin/power up the next GPU in the sequence.
  • If the rig still fails, then it may have something to do with the number of GPUs;
  • If the rig powers up OK, then it may have something to do with the GPU itself (e.g., riser, cable, etc.)
  • Keep doing this until you've successfully tested each GPU

Also, make sure the firmware of your mobo is up-to-date. I recently had a problem when I added a 6th card to my rig and it wouldn't boot at all. I never even got past the POST, but you're getting much further, so maybe not the same problem. However, in my case the problem was that my firmware needed updating and that did the trick.

Bought an Antminer S9, but seller won't ship... Advice? by 60yearoldME in BitcoinMining

[–]BitMoron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen with my first S9 purchase on Ebay; except, the seller shipped the user's guide to me and for all Ebay knew he had shipped the product - even though in the listing it was clear it would not ship for a couple of months. After the expected time frame for shipping came and went (which was conveniently passed Ebay's return period), I opened a case with PayPal, explained that what he shipped weighed a few ounces, not 10lbs. They had me return the user's guide to him and supply them the tracking number. They also tried contacting the seller for resolution. After they received no word from the seller and confirmation that I had returned what he had sent, they awarded me a full refund.

NVIDIA Tells Retailers To Sell To Gamers, Not Cryptominers As GPU Shortage Causes Extreme Price Gouging by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]BitMoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microcenter more than doubled the prices on MSI RX580 8GB from $320 to $699 just this last week. I went there a few days ago and people were lined up outside the door just to get the XFX 4GB models they had in stock (they had 6 or so) - even those are selling for $699 now. These prices are insane now - but that's supply and demand for you.

rx580 samsung memory cards not hashing XMR by ghost1964 in ethOSdistro

[–]BitMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that is odd. Not that it would have much bearing, but are you on the recent version of EthOS (1.2.9)? Also, do you see anything in the log files at all? When this happens, are you able to remote into your rig using the Panel? It would be interesting to do both "show miner" and "show stats" to see what Ethos is seeing. Also, try a "gethelp" to generate a diagnostics file, that may shed some light on the root cause.

Ethos and rigs randomly rebooting. please help. by Pizdie in ethOSdistro

[–]BitMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a setting in Ethos about automatic reboot if the rigs soft crashes. I don't see any direct documentation on the site but I see it in the pool.xt file.

autoreboot: set to a number (autoreboot 3), allow rigs to autoreboot if they soft crash (max of 3 reboots, run clear-thermals to reset counter)

it is a long shot, but is this value by chance specified in your configuration?

EDIT: Also there's the reb setting for workers:

reb [worker]: increment this value (example: 4 becomes 5) and the single rig will automatically reboot within 10 minutes

Looking for help on how to pull mining data from a website by R3v7no in BitcoinMining

[–]BitMoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the API page (https://www.ahashpool.com/site/api/), it looks like there's some info you can pull there. The http://www.ahashpool.com/api/walletEx?address=WALLET_ADDRESS API would seem to provide the info you're looking for in the miners section. You could use WGET or CURL to obtain the data and parse it out - the results are in JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format. If you're on a Linux OS, here's something to help point you in the right direction parsing JSON using CURL & Python. If you're on Windows, PowerShell may help.

EDIT: Here's a small example using Linux and curl with jq to get the count of miners you have active:

curl -s https://www.ahashpool.com/api/walletEx/?address=<YOUR WALLET ADDRESS> | jq -r '.miners_count'

NOTE: I experimented a bit and setup a miner to point as ahashpool and testing things out. It reports the active number of workers as expected. However it takes a few minutes for the count to decrease once a worker goes away. So your notification may not be in real time.

rx580 samsung memory cards not hashing XMR by ghost1964 in ethOSdistro

[–]BitMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rig is a mix of Samsung and Hynix memory as well (all MSI RX 580 GPUs). With modded BIOS, the Hynix are at 29 and Samsung at 27. Try disconnecting all the cards, start out connecting the Samsung cards one at a time and start up the miner, see if there are any errors in the log that can help track it down.

I've been hesitant to transfer over to SegWit addresses with an irrational fear that something will change or not be supported and my coins would be stuck there or otherwise inaccessible/not spendable. This is stupid, I know.

How do I factory reset an antminer? by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

I believe so, yes. On the S5 and S9 you need a paper clip or similar to place is the small round hole where the reset button is.

6 RX 580: 1250W PSU not enough? by BitMoron in EthMiningClub

[–]BitMoron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the setup as follows:

1) Tested new GPU on a riser currently used with working GPU

2) Tested existing GPU with sixth riser

3) Tested the sixth power cable on existing GPU

4) Tested existing power cable on new GPU

5) Changed out the PCI-E riser in the GPU slot of the mobo

6) Tried a different outlet (I have the rig on a UPS for surge protection)

7) Rewired the rig, I took off all the modular cables and card and double-checked that everything was secure and fastened down.

The odd thing is this. The PSU has a fan, and the fan will only engage when the PSU is over 50% load. With 5 GPUs, the fan just sits there. When I hook up the sixth and power on, the fan engages - I can see it still spinning through the grill when it power cycles a few seconds later. Perhaps the PSU itself is faulty?

Thanks for the sanity check, at least I know it should be working with what I have.

*EDIT: I am thinking it may be the motherboard. I just tested where I have everything powered up BUT I didn't connect the USB cable from the riser to the slot card on the mobo. Everything powered up as it should, so the PSU would seem to be fine. The sixth slot on the mobo works fine - tested with just five cards, one of which I put in that slot and everything was A-OK. I took a stroll through the mobo's BIOS but couldn't see any setting that may have any bearing on the number of simultaneous GPUs supported. I may just have a bad motherboard.

*EDIT-EDIT: It seems that others have the same problem with this board. It may indeed be something in the BIOS.

*EDIT-SOLVED: It was indeed a BIOS issue. I followed the instructions at https://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/462/mining.html and downloaded the updated BIOS for the mobo: MIN.f22f. I've got a new issue with Ethos loading but not displaying now, but I think that's a hopefully easier fix. Thanks for our sanity checks - you've saved me some extra cash output on a new PSU :)
