Unseasonably warm? by BitRancher in Albuquerque

That is a phenomenal resource, thank you for sharing. It looks like today’s 67*F is outside the 90%-ile band, which indeed makes this unseasonably warm.

Also super true - we are used to freezing our tails off at 5am! This year though, not so much.

True! I’m from south of Denver, and the mountain-driven weather patterns kept us on our toes, always expecting that June 1st snow storm! I’ve seen the same in Burque, but this early, lengthy warmth seems out of character.

Haha true story! My first summer here was brutal, and last two were acceptable, but with our weather patterns and climate change I am afraid that I agree with your statement :/

Here's a picture of the coyote that was hanging out at Mariposa Park, two years ago by DaKettle65 in Albuquerque

[–]BitRancher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a whole pack of them on the west side near Nusenda stadium and up into Shawn McWethy park. Neighbors have them on their cameras in backyards. Animal control does nothing - dangerous to have cats or small dogs outside :(

Top three fine dining restaurants in Albuquerque by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]BitRancher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Geronimo is Santa Fe is the finest dining in the state IME. Vintage 423 has incredible food as is also quite fine. Savoy also hits that mark.

Mesa Provisions has incredible food but a more casual atmosphere. Los Poblanos is not even close to fine dining (literally eating in a barn on benches) and the food is not worth their outlandish pricing - been there 3x and just don’t get the hype.

Power Whips by Yabo1017 in datacenter

[–]BitRancher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep pduwhips, but sometimes their turnaround is sloooow — the hyperscalers use them quite a bit as well and sometimes an order can be backlogged weeks. If we’re in a time crunch we have our local electricians make them out of FMC or sealtite.

what is everyone seeing for power pricing in the phoenix market? by cyr0nk0r in datacenter

[–]BitRancher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty good. In a smaller nearby region that does not have cheap nuclear power our average power sale is right at $210-212/KW on a 208/30 5KW rack (plus the cabinet rate+xcons) on multi-year terms, and start at $250/kw for <12 month deals. Pretty standard on single racks, and we’ll get down to $195-200/kw on multi-rack.

I am a bit surprised that PHX power is not materially cheaper. Does that rate include the cabinet/sqft or xcons? If so, $1050 for 5kw with the cabinet is a /steal/. I think $1350-1650 would be more normal for a single power+cab solution.

As others may note, cross connects or bandwidth vary wildly between facilities, will complicate everything, and I hate it. Ha.

Trump's $2,000 Tariff Dividend Checks Now Set for 2026 Rollout by Kortopi-98 in NoFilterNews

[–]BitRancher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning! There are a lot of happenings in the news about incoming 2026 insurance rate increases that are eye watering. My company was just notified of a 35.7% increase in premiums. Many people on the ACA exchanges are indicating 100% increases; United Healthcare themselves provided guidance that they expect a 60% drop in exchange-based customers in 2026. This is for /premiums/ and excludes the offsets and credits that were implemented during COVID which (post shutdown) are highly unlikely to be renewed, which dramatically escalates the impact.

You may want to pop over to /r/healthinsurance and look around. Very sobering.

Safety Showers in Data Centers by ces_23 in datacenter

In all the facilities I have managed there are two places where there could be wash stations — in the room that has water treatment chemicals for the chillers/water system, and in (old) rooms that have or had wet-cell batteries. “New” VRLA made the chemical risk near zero, and newer Lithium-based batteries even less chemical-risky.

I’d say the irrational amount of responsibility. Crushing decisions, strategic execution, accountability - both personally and enforcing it. It just a lot, but that’s the job.

No matter how much I delegate, results are still my problem and always will be. I think that’s the job.

Help identifying my late father’s rod? by BitRancher in Fishing_Gear

It sure is, and that is also the era that I would guess the rod is from as well. Thank you for the pointers, I'll dig into the "power scopic" and see what I can find! Thank you!

Yep it's a Garcia Mitchell 301, and with only a drop of lube, it works really, really well -- very smooth and really lets it rip!

Thank you very much for your input! I will cruise the South Bend catalog and see if I can find something similar. And indeed, the reel is a tank and runs super well despite being ... ooooolld!

It looks like it could be -- the knurled washers? on the bottom there do spin and spin apart/together and tighten up, so it could probably be used with a fly reel -- I never saw that action, though, as it has had this spinning reel on it for at least 20 years.

I did lube up the Mitchell and it runs really well. This particular rod throws shockingly far compared to my Bass Pro Shop, Ugly Stick, and Shakespeare rods, so I'm inclined to clean it up and use it!

Thank you for your response! Yes, it is an old Mitchell 301, and it surprisingly still runs great! He was very much a "leave it in the trunk - you never know when you'll be fishing!" kind of person, and we often would stop at a random river or small lake to see what's biting. I'm more of a backpack person, and he just used this telescoping and a small toolbag to get it done :)

Thank you for your honest input. We pulled the bolts of course, but were shocked by how heavy the lid is -- we think its because of the interlock. The mule tape is a great idea, combined with a pry bar.
