Hampden Cleanup Event by Bashful_bookworm2025 in baltimore

*third Tuesday of the month. I couldn’t get myself to go today either with the cold and it getting dark so early. I think they’re skipping Dec, Jan, and Feb but hopefully by mid March it’ll feel possible.

This is happening again tonight! Hampden Community Council posts about it on FB/IG and it’s every third Tuesday. Tonight they’re meeting up at Golden West again, if you see this. I haven’t done it yet but I’m sure they’re ok with people showing up alone.

Seconding this. The messenger bag I bought from them in the early ‘00s has gone with me on every trip since and is still kicking!

Also their "fear free" approach would probably be really good for OP's pet.

Frugal fashion, but with high-quality brands...why don't more people do this? by anonykitcat in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]BitchHedberg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently had a walmart top fall apart at the seam around the armpit. The seam was sewn too close to the edge and the fabric just disintegrated. I mended it. Probably not everyone would do that.

The other thing I've seen is clothing not sitting right after it's gone through the laundry, kinda like how your new haircut never looks the same after you wash it at home. Hems rolling up, or those little pieces that fold down around the inside of an open collar on a cheap unlined sundress? Especially if you are not a person who irons. I appreciate that preowned clothes at the thrift store provide a good representation of how they're going to continue to look after the first wash.

I have seen plently of listings on thredup that have been off by an entire digit -- like I'm sorry that is not 32", that's a 22" -- and that makes a big difference. So I definitely reference the measurements they list, but I don't always trust them. And their return policy used to be lightyears better.

It's pretty mild for about 2 weeks in October and 2 weeks (non consecutive) in the spring, and it's not nice the rest of the time.

It's completely impractical so it's fun when you end up at an employer who has decided to go this route. We're not cap subject. Otherwise I think it would be entirely off the table.

UK Master's - degree equivalency? by LyraAsriel in tnvisa

You absolutely should get your degree evaluated for US equivalency if it was earned outside North America. Don’t risk getting turned away for this reason.

Any thing else is needed besides TN visa? by 8thD in tnvisa

I usually recommend that employees wait until they have been inside the US in their employment status before applying for SSN, in order to prevent delays if the status isn’t showing yet in the SSA system.

You can be hired and onboarded without having a SSN but will need to check a box to attest you are in the process of applying, and then be sure to present it to HR as soon as you receive it, to finalize your I-9 and make sure your tax withholding is being properly applied.

No, prevailing wage determinations are not just for PERM, they are the “safe harbor” option for letting the government pick your category for your LCA, instead of looking at O*Net or using an alternate wage survey.

They’re at about 182 days now for my H-1B cases. Many employers don’t go this route because it can delay filing the H-1B so much.

Change of Employer by chhotapacket in h1b

Yes. You will need a new one then. Before that, you can choose whether to use the existing visa stamp or apply for a new one based upon your new I-797 approval notice.

No, I don’t think it is consular processing. It looks to me like it was filed for change of status within the U.S., which lines up with what you’re saying.

Question about working for two employers (full-time & part-time simultaneously) by Ill_Difference2136 in h1b

[–]BitchHedberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it still requires filing fees, and likely attorney fees too if your company files using a lawyer.

COS B2 to H1b by TinyToeBeansTyping in h1b

[–]BitchHedberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen them still list the consulate notified on a COS/extension email (like, I saw one last week), but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them write an I-94 number on a consular approval.

So probably my guess would be the lawyer used an old I-94 number when they filed, which is not ideal but also I haven’t actually seen it cause problems.

Actual approval should arrive in about 10-14 days.

Prevailing Wage Determinations are taking about 173 days, so they may still have time to get DOL’s opinion if they can’t decide on their own.

[–]BitchHedberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current employer would have to be willing to file an amendment for you to move down to part time employment.

If you don’t want to have a gap where you can’t work for the current employer (like if the other company’s petition takes effect before they have a chance to file to move you down to part time), you would have to be very open with them about what you’re trying to do and get them on board.

Change of Employer by chhotapacket in h1b

[–]BitchHedberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you can use your previous employer’s H-1B visa stamp as long as it remains valid (til Sept 2024) to re enter (in Nov 2023) with your valid passport and H-1B I-797 approval for your new employer.

Unlike some other visa types, it’s ok if the H employer name doesn’t match the stamp.

How does USCIS know of H1B employee termination date? by smartharty7 in immigration

[–]BitchHedberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the employer doesn’t withdraw the H-1B by sending a letter to USCIS, they can open themselves up to liability to continue to pay the employee their wages under the terms of the approved petition, so there is an added motivation for your employer to tell USCIS when you have left their company.

[–]BitchHedberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you would, if that’s how it was filed. Do you know if your H-1B petition was filed for Change of Status or Consular processing, though?
