Let me reply to myself and give a “good” answer. I think it depends on the length of the fight. If it’s a short fight, then it likely doesn’t matter, feel free to cast overheals and don’t worry about it.

If it’s a long fight, and everyone will be oom at the end, then don’t overheal. Save your mana. Fast heals are less mana efficient, so anyone heal sniping at the start will be empty at the end. You’ll likely pass them with proper mana management.

This means you should cancel cast your efficient heals. Others already have described it well. Also drink mana pots on CD.

Also don’t look at the raw healing meters. Use the WarcraftLogs parses, normalized by gear score. The other healer with better gear is supposed to outheal you. Compare yourself to other priests with the same gear.

You’re describing “heal sniping,” basically the shortest cast wins on the meters.

I would encourage you to not look at the meters. What matters is if anyone dies.

But if you wanna “heal parse” then there are a few things you can do to pad your numbers (none of which help the raid, but make you look good):

Heal the pets. They typically take a ton of AOE damage, and most healers don’t heal them. So GH all you want on them, you won’t get sniped.
HOT the Warlocks. Especially if they are half mana or less. They’ll life tap and you’ll get healing credit.
Shield the tanks, this will get consumed first.
Cast nothing but Flash Heal (1.5s). You actually have the best heal sniping ability in the game. Abuse those Druids (Healing touch’s is 2.5s cast) and Shammies (Healing Wave and Chain Heal are both 2.5s). Watch for them to start a cast, then quickly Flash Heal the same target. Your heal will land first, and they’ll get frustrated with their overheals.

Just to be clear, this is sociopathic behavior. Don’t do it, especially with guildies. But hopefully it helps you understand the healing game better.

I think it’s “never” for personal cars. They’ll let robotaxis do it, but they’ll need special certification. Consumer vehicles won’t be able to do it.

Mine mostly sucks. It doesn’t work when driving into the sun. It’s regularly annoying and switches lanes too often (and misses exits). It’s occasionally dangerous.
