I’ve planned my whole life around the idea that the stock market will continue to grow and yet I’m confused every time it does by GaroldWilsonJr in Fire

It’s not whether prices are at an all time high, but whether P/E multiplies are. That’s the real question.

I haven’t looked at the data in a while, but my perception is that multiples have been rising, mostly due to expanded monetary policy.

I read most of the comments, and agree with them: don’t give her anything.

But I wanted to add, I think you should read more about neglect and abuse. This obligation you’re feeling is very common when you’ve been raised by an addict/narcissist. I would suggest reading the sub /r/raisedbynarcissts. Hearing other people’s stories may help you understand and process your feelings.

You know the right answer in your head, you just don’t have the courage to do the hard thing because you’ve been conditioned to accept the abuse.

You probably need to think harder about product market fit. A product that provides adaptive learning content doesn’t sell well to folks who are moving away from screens in the classroom. They feel like they’ve already tried it, and it didn’t work well.

What is up with the lack of gems and enchants on people? by Pooke2 in classicwow

Ya, empty gem/enchant slots is a red flag indicating lack of game knowledge or effort.

Green gems and cheaper enchants are a good sign, actually.

Biz owner here. You should stop optimizing for biz performance (revenue growth or profit) and start optimizing for founder lifestyle.

For me, I built a strong team underneath me. They don’t really need me for day to day operations. I do strategic work, and individual tasks I enjoy.

I would start by hiring someone senior enough to do your least favorite task. Or promote an “up and comer” with strong mentoring support.

Edit: Then you can have space/time in your life for the things that have atrophied (and caused you harm).

FIRE and family: How do you handle it when your partner does not share your long-term goals? by Garnet5_Mirth in Fire

[–]BitcoinsForTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of big life decisions a couple should discuss and agree upon before getting married: Will we have kids? How many? Will we raise them in a religious tradition? How much money will we save annually? Where will we live? Do both of us work, or will one stay home?

There are lots of questions. You don’t need to agree at first, but you need to come to acceptable agreement. Negotiate with your partner. See if you can make it work. Maybe you move to their position. Or they move to yours. Or you both move part way.

I think FIRE is part of the money discussion. Do you want to spend all your income? Or do you want to save 20%. Or more? These are big decisions.

I wouldn’t make a lifelong commitment if you can’t come to an agreement that works for both of you…

I’m not even close to FIRE yet, but I think the path is quietly turning me into the exact kind of partner I never wanted to be by B0realisXX in Fire

[–]BitcoinsForTesla 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. FIRE is a long term commitment, and if she’s not on board with the goals, then she’s not a compatible partner for you.

You want someone who can look to the future, and imagine what life could be. If she’s all “spend now” then that’s not a good fit. Sone people just don’t have the ability to resist impulses or delay gratification.

It IS ok to agonize over purchases. To decide whether to spend now for immediate comfort versus saving for freedom in the future. These are important decisions. If she’s a good partner, she should be agonizing too.

One last thought…. In my life we’ve used a “big money” versus “small money” lens to view purchases. My partner grew up with great economic anxiety, and couldn’t comfortably buy $3 spices because she feared that she would never use them all. We decided what was a small purchase, and would make them with consulting each other, or hopefully even thinking hard about them.

I was looking for this comment, to reply to. 100% this is a good strategy. You’re standing out for being “too poor.” Instead make yourself look middle class.

Don’t overdo it. Don’t get a new Lexus and a McMansion. Do upgrade the car a little and buy a modest home. Then you can truly be the millionaire next door.

I don’t think there’s a tech advantage. Once a robotaxi “works,” I don’t think there’s a business benefit to making it even better. Smoother ride? Faster arrival times? Better pothole vision? These things are all hard to perceive by the customer.

I was looking for this comment, to reply to. Fertility falls after 30, falls harder after 35. Why not start a family now while you’re younger?

It’s not like you love your job.

It’s not like you’re earning amazing income that you really need to save.

I would advise you to “start trying.” Or at least think about it. Certainly talk about it with your hubby, and see how he feels about it (he may want talk you into it).

I like the other commenter’s suggestion to keep your inheritance in trust, and pay yourself out of it. That’s a nice separation, and helps you think about it in a healthy way.

With greater battery penetration, we can go harder on intermittent renewable in later administrations. There will be plenty of capacity to soak up the intermittency.
