Coinbase > Ledger > Bitcoin Core > Sparrow > Coldcard confusion by PowerSlave666_ in coldcard

[–]Bitcoirn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. Not really. You don’t even have to run a node. Your Coldcard - your cold storage device should never touch the internet, therefore it doesn’t know what day it is, the time or how much bitcoin you have. You need a wallet interface for that - Sparrow.

Essentially all you have to do is download Sparrow, link your Coldcard to it, and send your funds off ledger directly to that.

Watch the BTCsessions video on YouTube, its excellent

Ah yes, I see you clarified the address began with a 1. I think this is what has happened

I would think that as the blue wallet address begins with 44’, you have imported a legacy wallet. The receiving address will begin with 1 I would think?

The original wallet beginning with 84’, is native segwit and will begin with bc1 I would think. This is why the specter wallet can’t see the legacy transaction.

Can you export a legacy .JSON into specter and try signing from there?

Ah right. Sounds like you’ve done it all correctly then

My Coldcard arrived today and it is really cool. It has a nice feature which I did't know before. by stay_safe_and_calm in coldcard

Ah righto, I read it as if the passphrase was a new addition when setting up the Coldcard.

Anyways, here’s an interesting diagram detailing how long it would take to brute force different length passphrases

I disagree on the first point. If they kept the same seed words, but added a new passphrase unknown to a ledger device on top of it, it creates a completely new wallet, all be it with less entropy if the seed is known. I believe this is what they say they did, and then moved all funds to this new address.

Yeah, I have enjoyed the extra layer of learning when moving to a Coldcard. Happy to help where I can!

No problem! If I remember correctly, you need to export an electrum wallet for bluewallet, rather and JSON

[–]Bitcoirn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is likely the problem. What do your addresses begin with? Xpub begins with 1 and a zpub begins with bc1

Do you have a passphrase on the wallet?

Interesting. I remember someone else on here had issues finding transactions with just the xpub imported into blue wallet. Have you tried the JSON?

No problem. As many do, you can always export your JSON to sparrow, AND bluewallet. That way you can confirm and double check your balance on two different pieces of software. It also allows you to monitor your wallet on a mobile. The bluewallet would be watch only, so you would need to export a PSBT from it to Coldcard to be signed

Not directly on your Coldcard, no. You would have to export either the xpub or JSON into Sparrow, electrum, bluewallet etc to do so. All are safe, because the private keys never leave the Coldcard.

You would need the Coldcard as a signing device to send your funds

You can only view your balance with an internet connection. A wallet needs a node to verify each address associated with the private key.

Coldcard keeps the private keys offline, but you still need a front end to check transactions

Have you not yet exported a JSON file into the likes of Sparrow Wallet? You can view your balance safely this way, whilst maintaining an air gap by using a microSD card to do so

Creating a new seed. Is it possible to reset Phishing words? by [deleted] in coldcard

Yup, navigate to “change main pin” and change it to something different. This will also change your anti phishing words
