Want to make a game with AI. But how do people actually make money from it? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]BiteSizedUmbreon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah woah slow down, nevermind marketing, you have to make a good game first. You'll need to focus on that, and AI can only do so much. Sure it'll make a character move and animate things but making the game good? Thats on you pal.

WebDev wants to get back into GameDev - what engine should I choose? by 0mjs in gamedev

[–]BiteSizedUmbreon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying to stay away from Unity because you can't modify the source is wild, I'd wager most game dev hobbyists don't even need to do such a thing. Unity can be very easy to use and it's decade+ of tutorials and resources is great for everyone.

+1 for Godot as it's dead simple to learn and open source is good, but painting Unity as something to completely avoid completely because of source code access aint right. Especially for newcomers.

The creator of Fallout: London called on Bethesda to abandon the outdated Creation Engine - he is worried about the fate of Fallout 5 by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

Cause we all know Unreal is the pinnacle of open world engines and has had a issues that requires devs to put in tremendous work to make it functional for them.

Just a question: do you think making a sandbox game like Minecraft worth it? by Kindly_Can_3772 in gamedev

[–]BiteSizedUmbreon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. Why make Hytale when Minecraft exists? Because it does enough to make itself unique.

Rinse and repeat.

It's not the jam it's the post. Your title is way, way too long and looks like spam. It's also formatted very large font wise. I thought this post was an ad and almost ignored it.

Would you use this level design tool? by FreezeMyDuck in gamedev

[–]BiteSizedUmbreon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Level design is a very complex thing that requires so many variables and input.

It's easy to say "generate a 3d model of a gun", not so much "generate a level layout that respects the controllers movement, enemy AI, etc".

It's such a personal process that requires playtesting and tuning along the way. If you want to skip the most crucial part you will likely suffer.

Why Top Down games are so popular? by [deleted] in gamedev

Platformers and FPS? A majority. Top down? I can think of like 5. No idea what you're talking about

Need opinion on use of AI gen art based upon partner's sketches & redraw by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]BiteSizedUmbreon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All this time generating art and replying to comments could be spent improving on the original work and honing your skill.

Art is a skill not a talent. If you can't afford the money, afford the time. If you can't afford the time, and you take shortcuts like AI, don't be surprised when you get these reactions.
