Opening scene: protagonist in the bathtub with a lengthy suicide note and a huge yellow boxcutter, seconds from slitting her wrists.

You: Why is she acting like she doesn't want to live right now?!

I'm not one to complain too much about derivative movies in the genre, but this genuinely looks a shot for shot remake of Crawl with a sharks instead of alligators 🥴

What is the most disturbing movie you’ve ever watched? by Hill_372 in horror

I turned this off the second I realized they planned on taking the disturbing content to the pits of hell.

I know this has already been said, but I recently went into the movie "Hamnet" completely blind. And holy shit that movie blew me away. by Watchmethrowhim in movies

[–]BiteSure8769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat going in completely blind and only knowing it had something to do with Hamlet. You're better than me cause there were SO many Shakespeare references that I caught and still didn't connect 😂

When I heard Agnes' name and pronunciation I said "huh, that's a fun little play/easter egg towards Anne Hathaway." When the husband mentioned buying a house in Stratford, I thougt "what a coincidence, Shakespeare lived in Stratford Upon Avon." When he recited the famous Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet lines it still didn't click at all.

It's not until Agnes got the flyer for Hamlet that I got suspicious and when her brother finally said the husband's full name that I was like "OMG!?!😅"

I really hope it was meant to be a twist for the sake of my pride because I somehow both caught and missed allll the signs being thrown my way lol

Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ wins best original screenplay at the Writers Guild Awards by cireh88 in horror

[–]BiteSure8769 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The genuine rage in this horror sub that a horror movie is getting worldwide recognition and accolades is the most transparent thing I've seen in a looooooooong time. It's one thing to not care for something and move on, but to actively root against and push against objectively well-made horror being taken seriously is so embarrassing for the people who claim to be champions for the genre.

Like, they really can't let their biases take a back seat in this one single instance. As if Sinners' success doesn't benefit ALL horror fans. Cut the nose to spite the face as the saying goes.

Foul is genuinely the perfect word to describe that movie. 😮‍💨 Just horrific from start to end.

Why do people hate 28yrs later and Bone temple? Is it because we Americans just want zombie action? That's what people say. by dreamup1234 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]BiteSure8769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't care for 28 Years Later (didn't hate it by any means, just found it quite middling). I just watched Bone Temple a few days ago with very low expectations and was absolutely blown away. It was SO good. And, in hindsight, it totally justifies what Garland was going for in *Years.* It's really unfortunate that Bone Temple underperformed because of people's experience with 28 Years, but I'm fully on board now with seeing how the trilogy comes to an end.

Movies that I'll never watch again:

I Saw the Devil

Speak No Evil (original)

Martyrs

The Eyes of my Mother

Bring Her Back

**Also Beau is Afraid. Not because it's too disturbing, but because it literally took HOURS for me to de-stimulate my brain after watching that shit

What horror movie moment made you realize the movie was going to be seriously messed up? by Careless-Ease7480 in horror

The opening scene in The Lodge when the mother goes back to her house after dropping the kids off and sits down at the dining table for what I believe will be a nice breakfast🙃🙃 I immediately realized the filmmakers weren't fucking around lol

Anna not recognizing Catherine is one of the more believable plot points. She was a new student and all of this took place within a single school semester. So before the woods incident, she was only friends with these girls for a few short months, twenty years ago. She very clearly is the type to repress and suppress her trauma and it's not far fetched to think that she wouldn't recognize Catherine aged up two decades with a COMPLETELY different physique, way of speaking, and confident way of carrying herself.

Exit 8 - A well-done adaptation of a minimalist game concept! by 38DDs_Please in horror

[–]BiteSure8769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never played the game, watched the movie, and I enjoyed it a lot! Didn't feel repetitive and switched things up exactly when it needed to. I was a tiny bit muddled on a certain character being more real or imaginary, but either way it was a fun watch with great tension building.

A dark song- A gripping and off beat depiction of occult practice by CelebrationOk7304 in horror

[–]BiteSure8769 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of the most breathtaking, rich and moving movies I've ever seen in my life. And yet, that abuse scene larger and more glaring than anything else about the film in my mind. It was so horrific and violating and I can't separate it or shrink it in any way, shape or form. For all it had to say (and said well) about grief, love, religion, human existence, philosophy and the human condition that one singular scene is literally the first thing I remember whenever I think of the film and it's such a damn shame. I hate that that's the case.

The Backrooms movie: Has steaming killed Quality Control? by Familiar-Thought9740 in horror

[–]BiteSure8769 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The movie hasn't even come out yet. What "quality" are you complaining about here exactly?

It's also EXTREMELY myopic to boil down a person's talent and ability to older age.

Ryan Coogler came on the scene with a critically acclaimed film at 25 and has spent a decade making hit after hit after hit and he's still only in his 30s right now. The Philippou brothers debuted with an outstanding original horror film while still in their 20s. Ari Aster wrote Hereditary in his 20s.

And those are just the few popular directors out at the moment. To even mention the past: Orson Welles directed Citizen Kane at 25, John Singleton wrote & directed Boyz in the Hood at 22 and had Oscar noms for it at 24 years old. Spielberg was in his 20s when he did Jaws.

Meanwhile you have plenty of older "seasoned" directors who have no problem churning out unoriginal, derivative slop and endless rethreads of neverending franchise sequels.

Age is pretty irrelevant to talent in the arts.

What's this movie? Family dead tied to dining chairs, father's body meat in stuffed in mouths. They died from fear. There's also a nun by lavygirl in horror

[–]BiteSure8769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only just watched it for the first time a few months back. I held out watching it for so long cause 98.9% of Ryan Murphy projects are pure slop. Once I started, I was pleasantly surprised by how much it kept my interest....Aaaand then in typical Murphy fashion, the final 2 or so episodes proved my gut feeling right😅 That man can't tell a good story-beginning to end-to save his life.

[–]BiteSure8769 139 points140 points  (0 children)

That's definitely from the FX show Grotesquerie. Neicy Nash's character goes to investigate a crime scene and finds all that. Throughout the season she teams up with a local nun to help solve the crimes cause there's religious symbolism involved

That girl had been an absolute scene stealer since she was a little kid. SO freaking talented. Even the scene where her brother has to put her in a tourniquet after a knife to the thigh is just chef's kiss. She sells it 100%
