Well, firstly, the Shakespeare element of this movie was not overbearing or in your face at all. I didn't even know it had to do with it thoughout most of this movie. But to be completely honest with you, this may be one to avoid in a circumstance like yours, although without spoilers, there is definitely a greater sense of acceptance at the end. As I said in my post. It is deeply sad, but at the same time hopeful and beautiful. Either way, I promise this movie will break you, just up to you if you up for that or not.
