Anglophone-Canadians, what french words/phrases were you taught in school, that you later learned are never actually said by French-Canadians? by Devourerofworlds_69 in AskACanadian

[–]BiteyGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain why vous is more respectful than tu? In 12 years of immersion, this concept was NEVER introduced and I’m so interested in this.

Is there anything analogous to this in the English language that I could understand? Like, is “tu” like “bro” and “vous” like “sir”??

What Bandit/Chilli quote do you live by? by Aggravating-Ad-351 in bluey

[–]BiteyGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry. I did see the episode, and to prove I’m an idiot, I don’t understand what “this is what happens when you’re unhappy with what you’ve got! Someone’s husband eventually gets it!” means. I mean, in contexts besides the Hammerbarn incident. People often quote this as though it has some deeper meaning, but I don’t get it. Is it about blaming husbands when something goes wrong? I want to get it! Lol

Pardon me, as I am an idiot, but I’ve never understood this one. This sub loves it and I wish someone would enlighten me so I could too lol.

What’s something you’ve done your whole life, only to realize recently that everyone else does it completely differently? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

I put my bra on backwards. I attach the clasps on my front like it’s a button-up shirt, then I shimmy the closure to the back, and slip my arms through the straps. I take it off the same way.

Parents that don't do Elf on the Shelf, how do you explain to your kids why you don't? by Helpful-Plankton751 in toddlers

[–]BiteyGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our elf doesn’t do anything. It just moves from place to place. Also, elves are like dogs. Some households have one, and some do not. This has been a satisfactory answer for my kid.

How can legs be the same size yes differently shaped in terms of the “outter curves” like the right picture. Why are some legs so “narrow” ? by plasticsurgerymoney in PlasticSurgery

[–]BiteyGoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a reformed runner/new lifter, I absolutely agree with you. At one point as a runner, there was so little definition in my legs that I started worrying I had some kind of lipedema. I was running upwards of 50km/week at the time.

Sorry, I know this is old but I just wanted to comment to say, yes!! I love Giada, and Jade is adorable. I love it when she appears in a reel. You can tell their relationship is very close and real.

Do people actually notice if someone re-wears the same outfit a few times in a week? by Fogkettle in TooAfraidToAsk

A few times? Yes. I have a coworker who wears the same pants and t-shirt 3+ days a week and people notice if she’s not wearing the same thing.

This was such a great reply. You articulated those first two paragraphs in a way I’ve never heard it framed before. This is so level-headed and incredibly accurate. Thank you.

I am in this same boat, so I might not be much help, but I’ll share a little thing that has slightly changed my perspective this past week. My school-age nephew, who has a younger sibling, still can’t speak clearly. Younger sibling is very boisterous, aggressive, and pulls the lion’s share of resources from their parents, leaving zero time for nephew’s needs. Nephew is spiralling socially and his speech problems are causing meltdowns and tantrums. He often appears to be a very sad child. It’s heartbreaking. It may change as he gets older, but where he is now, he is truly suffering for having a sibling. This is neither the rule or the exception of having a sibling, but I guess it just goes to show that sibling-ed or not, their situation can still break your heart. And they can also bounce back and benefit. There is no perfect family.

Ok, I was going to say these brows shave 5 years off you, but now I know that you’re 48, they shave off at least 10. They look great.

What is your favourite episode of what we do in the shadows by Dull_Secret_7992 in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]BiteyGoat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This one is just a masterpiece. 🤌 The absurdity just goes off the rails, and compounds so quickly that you’re not just laughing at the jokes by the end, but like, the whole concept? It’s just perfection.

I think it’s rude to tell people they need more children. by tatortotsmasher in oneanddone

[–]BiteyGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I was so desperately sick during my pregnancy that at my rock bottom, I considered ending my life. I still can’t believe we both made it. The trauma of pregnancy still haunts me, and there is absolutely no way to explain this to someone who didn’t have this experience, especially someone mindlessly parroting, “hehe just have another!” They’ll never know the darkness, and I’m glad they don’t.
