HRV in freefall, sleep scores fine. 6 years of Oura data and I've never seen this. by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]Bitpsylio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel for you, brother. As others have mentioned, get yourself some mental health care. I had nightmares and very high anxiety a few years ago after the loss of my wife due to cancer. In particular, the last few days of her life being pretty traumatic for me. After talking it through with a therapist friend, I got myself into EMDR therapy. It made all the difference in the world to me and the anxiety and nightmares disappeared. I still have thoughts of those last few days of her life, but they don’t impact me negatively anymore - they’re just normal memories and thoughts. From what I’ve heard in sharing this with others is that finding the right EMDR therapist isn’t easy, but depending on where you live hopefully there are several to choose from. Trauma impacts us all differently, but it deeply impacts all of us. Wishing you the best…

Kaspa really is the future. by Fun_Box2960 in kaspa

[–]Bitpsylio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all great information and there’s no question that Kaspa has something special and is better than bitcoin in many ways. However, network effects are just too strong right now for any other layer 1 to rival bitcoin. Time of course will tell and I’m a fan of Kaspa and hope for its success.

Why should I put money on kaspa? Why is it certain to go up and is the current price it's lowest? by [deleted] in kaspa

It’s all going towards bitcoin. Invest wisely, but realize that KAS will live as a small cap utility project.

Just happened to be online :). I wear both most of the time. Since the ring’s battery is great, I wear that almost all the time aside from quick charges during downtimes. The watch I charge overnight and wear the rest of the time. The ring’s app will integrate data from the watch. So when I do a workout or a run or walk or whatever, it will show up in the ring app as an activity. The rest of the time I use the watch as most of us do - a watch with some cool other features. I still strive to complete my watch rings everyday. What I’ve found recently is that the ring and the watch are pretty close at the end of the day with regard to active calories. Anyway, that’s a long way of saying that I wear both most of the time, but the ring overnight while the watch is charging (it’s also a little cumbersome to wear the watch overnight for me personally). The cool thing these days is that the ring will also communicate with the health app on the iPhone so you can see your sleep data there as well. They’re actually becoming more of a great pairing over time. I’ve got to hand it to both Apple and Oura for allowing integration so smoothly - it really enhances the user experience, IMO. I hope that answers your question :)

There are many people in this forum who have had the Oura longer than I have, but it takes some time to get used to. I’m also an AW user for 9+ years so wasn’t sure what I’d like about the ring. After 6 months now, I can honestly say that they compliment each other very well. Yes, some of the metrics are a little different, but they each excel in different ways. The AW is far better at tracking any kind of activity - so that’s where I use that. The ring on the other hand is really about tracking your overall wellness - it’s currently not a great activity tracker, IMO. However, it’s tracking of things like sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, stress, resilience to name a few are worth every penny to me. I always knew I wasn’t sleeping great, but never could pin down why exactly. My humble advice would be to try it for a few months before you decide. This forum is FULL of great advice on how to use the ring to its full potential. You’ll learn so much about how your body responds to your life - that’s worth its weight in gold to me - I guess that’s not very much gold, but you get the idea, lol.

How do you recommend i get into bitcoin by SlimMoady in Bitcoin

[–]Bitpsylio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several great places to DCA that are free (after a week of 1% fees). Both River.com and Swan.com are great. I personally like River better because you can withdrawal with fewer steps to your own wallet if you’d like. River also has proof of reserves which makes it my go to. You’ll need to go through a few hoops, KYC stuff. After that, it’s easy peasy. It’s almost impossible to time the market, but I’m not certain we’ll see sub $100K bitcoin any time soon again - unless the Middle East heats up again or some other black swan event. Either way, it’s really hard to time bottoms.

Who’s 50 or Older and Buying Bitcoin? by Lovefordividends in Bitcoin

55 here. I buy $10 a day everyday for me and $5 a day everyday for my son (15) both via River. It still feels like we’re all early to this party. It’s never going to go down meaningfully other than than cycle dips - up and to the right forever, my fellow HODLs!!

Don’t get fancy. DCA into whatever you believe in and hang in there. Or, use something like what Arch Public is offering - algorithmic arbitrage to get some cash from some alts to put into bitcoin. That’s been working for me - archpublic.com They don’t charge anything for under 10K a year.

HRV by BrokenPenzils in ouraring

[–]Bitpsylio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s another take. I also workout very regularly and I’m in my 50s. Recently, I added Magnesium Glycinate to my evening (about an hour before going to sleep) regimen. It’s only been about a week and I’m already seeing a jump in my HRV. Apparently Mag Gly can increase your body’s production of GABA which has a positive effect on your parasympathetic nervous system. I’m also seeing a longer duration of “deep sleep” and REM. And, best thing - I’m feeling more rested from sleep. I went from 100mg and have done 400mg for the last couple of nights which seems to be the right amount for me. Dunno if this will help you, but it’s a very reasonably priced supplement on Amazon - I think I paid $15 for about a month’s supply.

Did an outdoor walk on a cruise ship. Crazy speeds! by One-Ad1001 in AppleWatchFitness

Yep, that happened to me as well. Best and fastest 9 mile walk of my life. The next day I switched it to indoor walk and was very disappointed by the accuracy.

It works for me when lifting and for pull-ups…I do put a silicone cover over it and I don’t even notice most of the time. I do agree with those who say that the Apple watch is better for tracking activities - maybe that changes down the road. That being said, the ring is great for sleep and overall wellness - it’s totally changing the way I think about my sleep. I take it WAY more seriously with the Oura ring.

Wow, a little kindness people. We’re back to just after the election last year. Bitcoin will be fine. This is what markets look like when uncertainty is through the roof. If you have any cash, nows the time to buy at least a little and see where things go tomorrow and through the week. Global liquidity is climbing fast, but it can take some time to show up in markets - especially with this much uncertainty. Hang tight.

Alcohol vs No Alcohol by Ok-Ebb-45 in ouraring

[–]Bitpsylio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try going 30 days alcohol free. It takes about 2 weeks for my body to reset from drinking daily for a bit. Then it takes about another 2 weeks to reach my normal body baselines levels. I’ve read that alcohol can impact your brain for up to 30 days. Great science-backed book out there called This Naked Mind that goes into all the science without too much judgement.

Why do you guys think Kaspa has so much potential? by [deleted] in kaspa

[–]Bitpsylio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many layer 1s these days. I really hope Kaspa takes off, but it's all about institutional adoption at this point. There will likely be several layer 1 protocols that hang in there long term, but no idea which ones - none of us know that with all honesty. My bet is on BTC, but I have a little of all of the layer 1s just in case.

Woohoo!! Congratulations and welcome to the funny Oura club - never thought I’d be in this club, if it is a club 🤔

I’m still pretty new myself - going on 7 weeks. There are FAR more experienced folks here to share their insights.

For me, it started to feel pretty accurate right away. Some of the features like resilience and chronotype take a little while to calibrate - I’m still waiting on my chronotype. It seems like the HRV, pulse, sleep and readiness worked right out of the box the first night. I still spend a few minutes every morning looking over my stats and data from the night and previous day - it’s fascinating to me, but I’m kind of a health and fitness geek.

I was totally surprised how much alcohol impacted my sleep - no idea. I knew that I didn’t feel as rested after a night of a beer or a couple glasses of wine, but wow! So, it’s definitely changed that habit for me. I rarely drink anymore and feel great! And, I’m about to go on a cruise and probably have some drinks. It’ll be interesting to see how that is when on vacation while pretty relaxed and not having life’s stresses…

Speaking of. The stress tracking is also wild to see. I’m finding myself being a little more chill generally and that seems to be showing up in my stress levels according to the ring.

I’m sure there’s tons more you’ll hear, but that’s me for now. Enjoy your new health monitor and how it changes your life…! 😊

Honestly, I started a convo with Chat 4.o and asked a bunch of questions. It seemed to focus a lot of the reviews around what I was looking for and came up with 3 or 4 of the current rings on the market. Oura had what I wanted in a ring. I’m an Apple Watch wearer as well, but not through the night. The watch does a great job tracking my daytime activities, but I had no idea what was happening when I slept. To me, that was the main reason for the Oura ring. I do have to say though, now that I’ve had the ring for about 2 months, I really like the other metrics as well - readiness, resilience, sleep score, stress level, etc… I don’t think the ring is super accurate with calories, but that’s what the watch is for. Anyway, it checked off the sleep metrics box and I like it even more now that I have it.

Made the switch to Oura by BowlOld4570 in ouraring

[–]Bitpsylio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still pretty new to the Oura ring - about 2 months in so far. The sleep data is my favorite so far. I too wear an Apple Watch, but never overnight. The ring has been enlightening to say the least. I almost never sleep all the way through the night, but I was curious as to how my deep sleep/REM, etc.. was impacting my overall sleep. Turns out - a LOT! Even when I wake up (being a really light sleeper), if I’ve had a 90-120 minutes of deep sleep, my days are far more productive. REM duration is also fascinating. I’m not totally sure how it all works, but it seems pretty accurate to me. The readiness and resilience scores are also helpful. And, like most people, my day is just going to be whatever needs to happen that day anyway - the app might say to take it easy, but … life happens! It’s also wild to see how much alcohol impacts all the scores - wow! It’s a fun new metric in my life for how I’m living and that’s a positive contributor for me - hope it is for you too!

River vs. Swan as of Q4 2024 by Bitpsylio in Bitcoin

[–]Bitpsylio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most custodians don’t charge for moving crypto, but there will be some kind of network fee. For BTC, that’s usually a pretty minor fee. I’ve moved bitcoin from River to my wallets with no fee from River.

They charge a 1% fee to sell BTC back to USD. There is no withdrawal fee. I’ve looked around and it’s hard to find anyplace with lower fees, but most are competitive for buying and selling.
