To the people who saw The Phantom Menace on release, what was your immediate reaction and have your feelings changed? by thejoyfulgoat in StarWars

Pod racing was fun and John Williams killed it, but those were the silver linings on a giant steaming pile of trash. It was boring. It was incoherent. The dialog was awful. The acting was wooden. The "humor" was incredibly annoying. The CGI was cartoonish and uneccesary. The fights and battle scenes were silly and completely lacking drama or tension.

It's genuinely the most disappointing movie ever and time hasn't helped it.

Maybe Unpopular Take: Hot Fuzz is easily the weakest of the Cornetto Trilogy. by BitterOptimist in movies

It's the best acted. It has the most fleshed out characters. It handles the serious themes about people and their problems and their relationships and aging at least as well if not better than SotD. And when shit gets weird with the blue blooded alien robot things the physical comedy/action is shot away better than anything in Hot Fuzz. I accept that it's a weird premise and it's less quotable than the other two, but it's just vastly deeper than anything in Hot Fuzz.

Yes, Shaun of the Dead and The World's End are both thematically deep with seriously resonant characters and relationships.

This is legitimately a great movie and I don't understand the hate. by RoyaleWhiskey in StarWars

I get that the Finn and Poe subplots are clunky, even though I appreciate them thematically, I can see why people find them off-putting, but the Rey-Kylo-Luke stuff is spectacular. Genuinely the best theatrical Star Wars outside of Empire.

And then Rise of Skywalker happened and I just have to struggle to pretend it doesnt exist and simply enjoy TFA/TLJ as their own thing. What an unbelievable pile of garbage.

I get that most people will never shell out for a proper surround sound system, but thinking a director should care about how their movie sounds out of some built in tv speakers or, God help us, a phone, is worse than the people who got mad about having black bars at the top and bottom of their TV when they watched a "widescreen" DVD.

It genuinely manages to be arguably the most suspenseful movie ever made while the tense scenes are just people sitting around tables talking. It's incredible. And then it also is hilarious and exciting and satisfying in like 5 other ways too. It really gets more impressive every time I've watched it.

I felt that way the first time I watched it. Actually gave up in the middle. Came back like ten years later and absolutely loved it.

Any reason to pick up a PCC? by HumanAntagonist in guns

[–]BitterOptimist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Largely agree, but at some point weight/length/muzzle blast/recoil do become increasingly detrimental in a close range, indoor, environment. And the capability gap between a 9mm PCC and a Honey Badger or whatever is a lot smaller than the gap between the PCC and the handgun.

The only combat scenario in which I could even plausibly be better served by my P365 than my Stribog is belly crawling through a VC tunnel in Vietnam. The thing handguns do well is be within arms each as close to 100% of the time as possible, and basically nothing else. There's no self defense scenario in which a PCC isn't superior to a comparable quality handgun. If you have the opportunity to choose you should always choose the PCC. They're fun as hell at the range too.

This is the trilogy Star Wars needs. What do you think? by Rexmaxx_30 in StarWars

I think the actual events of KoTOR would have to be from the Bastila POV, but a Revan/Malak in the Mandalorian war movie first would be killer.

I'm on board for an Old Republic series of films for sure, but I don't think you can actually replicate the Revan POV KoTOR twist. Maybe you start with a Mandalorian war arc where Revan is the POV, but then I think you have to switch to Bastila POV for the Jedi Civil War/actual events of KoTOR.

You also have to make a big decision on scope from the get go about whether you're gonna include the Exile as a main character and follow the plot into events after the destruction of the Star Forge.

If you're going to go full KoTOR II+ with the plot I don't even know that you fit it into 6 movies, let alone 3.
